Dr. Di Maio was a Memorial Sloan Kettering gastroenterologist who did my father’s biopsy endoscopically in May 2010. There are some doctors who go into medical procedures like endoscopy without doing research first. There are others who consult with radiologists and do thorough research. Dr. Di Maio was the former and did not review my father’s CAT scans before the endoscopy. He said he didn’t have them; but, he didn’t need them. He should have studied them, however; and, he should have consulted with radiologists because the tumor was non-sterile and open. It was not a typical tumor(we later found out). Although Dr. Di Maio said he was available 24⁄7 after the procedure, he was not. He did not return our phone call until 36+ hours. The procedure initiated sepsis – my father got an infection immediately following the endoscopy. Since then, Dr. Di Maio has gone to Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In my opinion, you should go to an gastroenterologist with more experience and who does his homework before procedures.
