This has to be one of the best places to learn, grow and excel my photography interest. Bud/​Dave have been a huge part of my re-​entry into the photographic realm, their hands on approach to teaching has helped. more like forced. me to grow in my photographing skills. if you need studio time… membership has it’s privileges so sign up! the studio space is awesome… and has all the equipment needed to make photographic magic. i have attended several classes, group shoots and even did my own portrait session there with clients… modern space, tons off backdrops, client meeting rooms and more. if you are looking to further your photography skills, this is the place to learn, grow and be part of a large family of awesome photographers willing to help and share.

If you are looking for the ultimate community of photographers, you have to check out The Sopha. I have been a member for a little over a year now and it seems to be my second home. Bud and Dave have really created something amazing, with monthly group shoots, classes from intro to DSLR to advanced lighting, and a monthly review there is nothing like it!

I took the intro to DSLR class with Bud and it was absolutely worth every cent and every minute spent in there. I learned more in the 12 hours with Bud than I have in all my years reading books on photography and doing hands on photography. I seriously wish I took this class five years ago when I bought my first DSLR. I would encourage everyone interested in knowing how to operate their DSLR to take this class. The feel of the class if very laid back and extremely interactive making it really easy to get questions answered, yet the content is incredibly comprehensive. I cannot recommend this class enough. It was phenomenal. I will be taking the follow up class and the lighting course, at a minimum. After one class, I am a huge advocate of SOPHA and Bud!

I enjoyed the photography class I took here. Bud is a great instructor — engaging, informative, very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions you may have — even staying after class for the benefit of the students. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed — a wonderful learning environment.

recently attended the SOPHA open house for their new location on Merrill street. Better parking situation than the old downtown Elm street spot but really not that far away.
The place is fantastic. multiple studios with different permanent and movable sets. Tons of professional lighting equipment and a really open and welcoming community. Bud and Dave and their staff have really grabbed onto and made SOPHA a really welcoming community of photographers. This is a great place whether you’re a professional photographer or beginner wanting to learn. For clients it’s a one stop shopping trip for professional head shots, product shots, weddings and events, family portraits or sports and dance recitals, Bud and Dave and the rest of the crew can point you to the right photographer to hire.

I love this place. I love the people, I love the art– this is where you can find photography at it’s finest in all of New England. They offer studio space for photographers (as well as gear rental), classes ranging from beginner to advanced on a variety of topics, and gallery space to show off the amazingly beautiful art created. Speaking of which, they also do fine art printing. Studio for the Photographic Arts is absolutely a hub for everything photography.
I love when I have the opportunity to go up and work there with them. If you can think of it, somebody there shoots it. From weddings & engagement to boudoir and glamour, SOPHA captures it all by it’s members. They’ve really built a community within SOPHA that is incredibly warm and welcoming. It is a real pleasure to work at SOPHA and with it’s members.
