I got the cheese steak with mushrooms, onions and peppers. The shaved steak was nice and lean and the vegetables were crisp and tender. They use red and yellow peppers which are more flavorful than the green variety. I got a large which was $ 4.50 and you could easily get 2 meals out of it if you wanted.

Stopped here with my mother after a visit to Elliot Hospital. I wanted something close but also something with some Unilocal referrals, plus I am doing my best not to eat at chain restaurants anymore. Both my mother and I were very pleased with Pindos. The food was just fine, nothing fancy but satisfying, hot, and nicely presented. My mom had a cup of beef vegetable soup that I’m sure was home made. Very thick and rich, lots of vegies, and steaming hot. And no skimping on the saltines. We both chose the fried chicken sandwich based on another review. It was indeed a simple breaded chicken patty like you would get frozen at the supermarket. You can’t really go wrong with one of those, especially if the person frying goes light on the grease, which they did here. A nice fresh slice of tomato, crisp lettuce, mayo, and a very soft and fresh roll. This is not haute cuisine, but the sandwich was $ 2.50. Yes, $ 2.50! I ordered a side of fries, and they were delicious, very fresh and again fried just right without a lot of grease. I had tea, Mom had coffee, which she said was unfortunately, «not the best.» You know, the Greeks don’t much like their coffee the same way Europeans like their coffee, and I hate coffee, so I’ll reserve judgement on that beverage. Anyway, so the whole meal comes to $ 11. This is a very nice, clean place, easy to park, friendly and attentive waitress(owner?) and the bathroom was spotless. I can see myself going there alone quite a bit because they had a very inviting counter that snaked around the whole front room. You walk in the door and the place looks probably not one bit different than it did 30 years ago. But in a good way, like a welcome back we’re glad to see you way. I can recommend this as a very nice little local diner.

Good little neighborhood luncheonette for cheap eats offering old fashioned family friendly service located at the corner of Spruce St and Massabesic St. Breakfast is served all day. The prices here remind me of the 1990s. The most expensive omelets served with toast are $ 3.60. Coffee is 85 cents. Souvlaki sandwich with fries is $ 5.25. My boss and I stopped in for lunch and sat down at the lunch counter with stool seats. There’s also a dining room with booth seating with TV. The breakfast menu offers the typical egg dishes, omelets, French toast, pancakes, panfries, hash, toast, etc. The lunch/dinner menu offers sandwiches, grinders, burgers, souvlaki, gyros, shishkabobs, pizza, fried seafood, chicken, pasta, soups, salads, sides, and desserts(pudding, pie slices). Specials are offered too. My boss ordered a special: Chicken Sandwich, Fries, Soup, and soda for only $ 4.50. The cup of chili soup was tasty. The chicken sandwich(deep fried processed chicken patty, lettuce, tomato, mayo on a bun) was good and reminded me of the chicken burgers I had in the college dining hall. The golden brown fries were salted, crispy on the outside, soft inside. I had the Spaghetti with Meat Sauce($ 4.50) served with white bread & butter. The spaghetti was very thin and soft with lots of good meat sauce, a good portion of food. I had a side of fries($ 1.50) to dip in the meat sauce. The overall dining experience was very interesting in this neighborhood diner. The other clientele were regulars, several older locals who were dressed very nicely in their suits, who conversing in Greek with the owners. The food was very basic and tasty diner fare. We spent only $ 15 on lunch for two including tax and tip, not bad for 2008! The service here was generally easy going and friendly. 3STARS! During lunch, a female customer came in to pick up 4 large pizzas. The older owner«went the extra mile» and brought out the 4 large pizza boxes and insisted on carrying the pizzas out to the customer’s car, parked a few blocks away. Wow, I haven’t seen that kind of service at any other place in the city. +1STAR HOURS: Mon-Tue: 7AM-3PM; Wed: 7AM-6PM; Thurs-Fri: 7AM-7PM; Sat: 7AM-3PM; Sun: CLOSED
