Malverne Diner

I had Breakfast here one Morning then a few days later grabbed a burger before a 10PM show next door at The Malverne Cinema. It was fine. Service was prompt. Servers were polite. Food was good. It’s a diner and not a 5 star eatery. I don’t know what people expect. Prices reasonable to.

It can be difficult sometimes finding a quick bite with others if you’re vegan. At least something tasty. I ordered the roasted vegetable pita (without cheese), not expecting very much but while simple, it was so tasty that I devoured it. And the waitress and countermen were very friendly and accommodating. I’m glad we decided to stop in before the movie: I’ll definitely be back.

We stopped in around 230pm on a Sunday with about 35 minutes to spare before a movie at Malverne Cinema. We only wanted a cup of coffee and some pie so we thought it would be plenty of time. Wrong.
The diner was busy, but there were open tables so we were seated right away. The waitress came right over to take our drink order — then disappeared for 15 minutes. Someone else brought out the drinks but still no waitress. With 20 minutes to spare before the movie, we made eye contact with the waitress across the diner, and we got ready to say «1 slice of apple pie» as she walks towards us. She continued to walk right by our table, cell phone to ear, with an «I’m sorry,» and disappears for another 10 minutes.
This situation could have been made better if management put another waitress on the floor, or our assigned waitress asked the one behind the counter to help her out.
Our waitress did seem sorry she disappointed us, but we just asked for the check to pay for the drinks and left. I will not be coming back here. I’d rather just walk around the town until my movies starts next time.

This is your typical small town diner spot. You’re gonna get mediocre food, service, and prices.
I’ve been here a countless number of times, always before or after a movie. The theater next door is a great small independent cinema. The last time I came here was unfortunately one of the less pleasant occasions. My gf and I found ourselves 30 min early to our movie and we thought to stop in for a quick bite. We were sat down and our waitress took our drink order. We were then ignored for the next 10 minutes. When she did come back to our table, it was to tell us that she’d be right back. She was on her cell phone when she said it. By the time we had a chance to order food, it was already too late. It would have taken to long to order and eat. She was apologetic, but it was still a disappointment.
Honestly, this is not that bad a visit, things happen, but when you come here, you have to curb your expectations. It’s likely that you’d never come here if it wasn’t directly next to the movie theater and the place seemingly exists more out of convenience more than purpose. Should be named a Catch 22 — you’d should only come here if you have plenty of time, yet if you have plenty of time, you’d go somewhere else.

Quaint diner in a lovely town. The food was typical diner eats but tasty nonetheless. The staff were friendly and the service was good. Would return for the traditional diner vibe.

Came here the other day as we are planning to move to the area. This place was quaint and the service was top notch. The food was decent and I look forward to coming here often with my family. Keep up the great work!

This place is terrible! The food isn’t real diner food. Everything tasted as if it were from the frozen food section in the supermarket! Our usual diner (SilverStar) was closed for renovations & we were traveling all day so we stopped here. Never again. Don’t waste your money on this place!

My wife and I went here for lunch today, and both thought it was great. We were just passing through, but the place was clearly filled with locals, most of whom seem to be regulars. My Chef Salad was both huge and delicious. The friendly waitress joked that I was allowed only 45 minutes to finish it, which I failed to do. We brought home half of it. My wife was similarly happy with her selection, which included eggs, bacon, sausage and home fries. I stole some of the latter and they were great.

Burger and a Cajon chicken on a roll which was one dry piece of chicken spiced with paprika or pepper… I don’t know… but it was far from Cajon chicken. A lenient 3 out of 5… no effort here at all.

Came here to grab a quick bite before a movie. Food isn’t great. It’s decent if you just want to grab a cup of coffee before or after a movie.

I came here with my sister, nephew, and daughter. I was fully satisfied with the food. I had Blueberry Pancakes. They looked amazing!!! They tasted great. My sister also enjoyed her food. My nephew had French Toast. He liked and cleaned his plate. My daughter had Chocolate Chip Pancakes. She thought they were okay. We didn’t like the servers, though. They were not «Happy to Serve Us».

Last time I went to the Malverne Diner I really didn’t like it and I vowed never to go again unless I absolutely had to. That was many years ago and I don’t even remember the reason why I hated it.
Last week, after the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, my girlfriend and I decided that going out to dinner might take our minds off of everything for a while. However, due to the gas crisis, we knew we had to keep it local. The Malverne Diner had electricity and was within walking distance, so, we decided to give it a try. We were not the slightest bit disappointed with out choice. The food was good, but the real highlight was the friendly service that our waitress provided. We overheard her saying that she had been there since 7AM, a long shift, but her service and friendliness never wavered and she made us feel welcome and appreciated. After a crazy week of destruction, sadness, anger and anxiety, the Malverne Diner, for us, was a temporary shelter from the storm.
