Trancas Canyon Nursery

Beautiful nursery, healthy plants! Happened by when I noticed it, wasn’t planning on shopping, but can’t pass up a nursery! Carol made us feel welcome, was knowledgeable and friendly. We were also greeted by the owner/​landscaper Carlos who had just returned with his crew from a job. There was a nice selection of plants and containers; everything looking bright and cheerful on a rainy day! Tucked away behind the Vintage Grocery, what a gem!

Trancas Canyon Nursery is not just a great resource for gardeners, it’s like visiting a little piece of heaven. Anytime I visit, I feel all the stresses of every day life melt away.
I’ve purchased many of the flowers, plants and seeds now in my garden from these folks. They are also incredibly knowledgeable about plants, so if you need advice on how not to kill your rose bush come here.

This is just a lovely place. So unlike your typical nursery. I love to stroll among the gardens. I was there a few weeks ago and Carol (?) was so helpful. Prices are surprising reasonable. I bought plants, chimes & a stone garden bunny. Note to the developer of this complex — I came to buy at the nursery and also purchased from 2 other stores. So this little old-​style nursery pulls in customers. Why not give them a little more space?

This nursery made through some tough times while the entire shopping center was rebuilt and we have always been happy to support this small business. We miss the chicken coop and all the furry friends that made this spot a great destination for the entire family, but were forced out by the new complex construction.
I always find something new to buy here and the people running this place are down to earth including their prices. Could not believe the beautiful last minute Christmas tree we purchased for a fraction of the price we paid the previous greedy owner.
Debbie, part of the new ownership, is a always hands on, ready to help you select plants, order something special, or give you plant advice. It feels great just to wonder in, admire the new arrivals or talk about garden pests, it’s that good to be here.
The potted arrangements in this nursery are unique and moderately priced, I found vintage items given a new life.
Having had bought many plants, vegetables, fruiting trees and garden elements, I recommend this place over any home shopping superstore, I didn’t spend more here and I’m always money conscious.
They also carry the best brand of soil in my opinion, «Edna’s Best’ for all gardening needs, specially vegetables, as well as organic fertilizers. Their ‘cactus mix’ helped me salvage a young Coral tree that fell down because the gophers completely ate its root system. I’m a big believer in amending with the best stuff where it makes a big difference specially a veggie patch.

Trancas Nursery is a little jewel in Malibu. When the Trancas Shopping Center recently was about to go into development, the owners of the center evicted the nursery and when the town realized their beloved nursery was about to be no more, they rallied and the owners rescinded. Because this is not your typical «nursery». …It’s not just a place you buy plants and flowers. It’s a unique experience with knowledgeable people, chickens and ducks running around and gorgeous healthy plants in flowers all in a beautiful serene setting. It’s a place people smile and say hello and stop to chat. It’s like wandering around your favourite Aunt’s secret gardens when you’re a child. In fact, the last time I was there, there were little children running around filling up their balloons with water from the hose. It’s a rare magical place where more is happening then just the sale of plants. It’s the sort of place you don’t find anymore. A place to spend a leisurely afternoon wandering through a place that time has not altered. A mom and pop store that someone laboured and brought here out of love and passion.
