For the amount of money you will spend in there I think you better go to Panda Express!!! The food at Panda Express is much better and take lots of people with you they will always remember and appreciate you ;) I spent $ 200.00 for two and while I was eating I was always comparing the food with panda believe it or not and Panda Express was winning

Yuck!!! Saturday night — when every other place in malibu was full– Mr Chows had open tables… Now we know why it was empty! Best thing was the side of plain rice. Very Overpriced !!! We were just looking to get something in our tummies, not a fancy date night. The bill was $ 280 for 3 people and we were defiantly up-sold by the waitress. The chicken satay was the grosses thing ever! It doesn’t look like chicken, It had no flavor(the sauce that accompanies it was bland also gross) and was like rubber– two people at the table tried unsuccessfully to cut it and I couldn’t even bite a tiny piece off without a struggle. I also tried another chicken dish & a pork one that came with a side of rice. The meat quality here is very low. It’s chewy but mushy with a nasty texture. Panda Express makes better Chinese food… Save your $$$$$

This was one of the worst meals I’ve ever had I’m sad to say. I ate at the Beverly Hills location years ago and was delighted. Unfortunately the experience at the Malibu location was just awful. I heard that it might just be this location that is substandard but my my… for an upscale restaurant in Malibu I am absolutely shocked at the lack of fresh ingredients, flavorless dishes but most of all the quality of meat. The texture, flavor and appearance intimated it was cheap, poor quality meat. I want to warn anyone who doesn’t want to blow that special occasion or their cash.

Love mr. Chows. Really dead on the weekdays in Malibu though. But my oh my how amazing is their crispy beef & Mr. Chow noodles. Fried rice with shrimp was eh. Green prawns were good but not to die for.

One of the best vibes of any restaurant — the greatest menu hits have been great since I went as a kid to the original in London in the 70s.

Went to Mr. Chow Friday night at 7:00, prime time but the restaurant was one quarter full. Now I understand why. In my opinion this restaurant will not last very much longer in Malibu. The food was equivalent to PF Changs, not bad but definitely not exceptional. The price tag was crazy. Party of 6 with 4 drinks only, came to $ 600. The maitre d ordered the food for us and the servers dropped it off with bothering to explain what it was. I asked the waiter if he could serve each person portion and his answer was I am sorry but we are not allowed to serve because of fear we will spill the food on the patrons. Believe me I have no problem spending $ 100 per person eating dinner. All I am saying that this place is not worth it.

We were very much looking forward to experiencing Mr. Chow in Malibu. The décor was really elegant… but unfortunately, that is where the positive feedback ends. The evening proved to be more awkward and disappointing than excellent. The pretense of pushing $ 60 glasses of Dom only to be matched by having a server with such a thick accent, encompassed by arrogance made understanding how to even order a huge barrier. While three of the six folks in our party were really looking forward to enjoying their renowned duck, the waiter made ordering so complicated that even now I am not sure where we landed… other than not ordering it. We then started to order off the menu and were disappointed in the lack of flavor in 75% of the dishes. The crispy beef was crispy… but literally there was not ANY beef. The satay was so bland and texture forgettable. The duck item off the regular menu was served without the much needed plum sauce. It was only brought after we asked if they had anything to accompany the dish. We absolutely welcome paying a high price point for an experience and meal matching the cost. We consider ourselves lucky to be able to frequently enjoy amazing restaurants, with incredible ingredients and hospitality… and I assure you, Mr. Chow’s of Malibu is FAR from that. Thank goodness we had great dinner companions that also had a great sense of humor. The company saved the evening. Really, really disappointing.

Food is great — as a native Chinese, it is simply good, authentic Chinese food. However, the price is way too much — I think it is only justifiable for those on corporate accounts. Half the price would be a good start. It shouldn’t be $$$$ but $$$$$$$$ on Unilocal.Have dined at the best restaurants around the world, yet we felt like we were in the slaughter house to be ripped off, even with the quality of the food.

MR. CHOW — All locations. A classic — legendary and not to be missed. Whether you’re in BH, Malibu, NYC, London or now At the W Hotel in Miami, you shall not be disappointed! Not the very best but darn close to it. Service and food is excellent and consistent at all locations. Stephen C. Certainly 4 – 5 stars

My wife & I decided to go to Mr. Chow in Malibu for our 3yr anniversary. It was the first time either of us had been to a Mr. Chow. Having now experienced it, I’m completely blown away by any review that’s less than 4 stars. My guess is that the 1, 2&3 star reviews are primarily about the cost. To that I say, if you can’t afford it, DONTGO! But, don’t damage the reputation of a fine establishment just because you’re bitter that you can’t afford it. That all aside, our experience started off GREAT! The service deserves 7 stars on a 5 star rating system. Everyone who worked there greeted us. Everyone was professional. Everything was served promptly and nicely plated. The bar tender we had is the only other restaurant bar tender I’ve found in LA who actually knows how to properly chill and bruise a drink. We had the puff curry chicken… delicious! We also had the glazed walnuts & prawns… fantastic. Another starter we enjoyed was the Chow noodles… also great! The main courses were fiery beef(epic), duck pancakes(also delicious) and 1 other fantastic item I can’t recall at this writing. Long story short, if you can afford it, go here. The food is great. The service is better. And the ambiance is nice as well.

Mr. Chow’s food is delicious. My favorite is the Branzino and the Dressed Dungeness Crab with sides of Mixed Vegetables and Sauteed Brown Rice with Mushrooms. It can easily feed three people. The décor is lovely and its always an experience.

You have to know going in, that Mr. Chow as a restaurant is an experience. That’s it! It’s not fine dining nor does it have San Gabriel Valley Chinese food flair and prices. Is it even Chinese food ? It has been said that it is inspired by a Shanghai style of cooking, but I’m not sure about that. Mr. Chows is Mr. Chows. You cannot label its cuisine or even define what the hell it is. I’ve been a patron since 1975 and it hasn’t changed a lick. It is an expensive, mediocre dinner. It’s also a fantastic people watching, celebrity gazing event that is classy and refined. It’s a nice night out with someone special(in my case my wife) that is always eventful and fun. That being said and wanting to try out the new Malibu digs, I was not disappointed. The establishment is beautiful. The staff is professional, well trained and very friendly. The food is unbelievably consistent. Chow noodles(one of their signature dishes) could be ordered in Beverly Hills, New York, London or Malibu and they will taste exactly the same and that’s not a bad thing. The crispy beef, prawn toast, green shrimp, bamboo shoots, chow noodles and lettuce wrapped squab this night were all very tasty and good. OK all of you one, two and even three star reviewers. I get it. Super expensive compared to a #2 at Sam Woos. It can be haughty with its white table cloths and smartly dressed staff. Yes, you might be waiting for a table and JayZ or Jlo walks in and gets rushed to a table way before you, but this is Mr. Chows. Experience it and don’t take it too seriously.

Hadn’t been here in over 20 years, the décor could use an update. The service however was just as good as I remembered. Its hard for me to get behind this type of Chinese food since I’ve been eating in Chinatowns all over the USA since I was a child We had the three course special with four tiny appetizers. Filet mignon in a brown sauce, Peking duck and a noodle dish. All was ok but quite costly for the quality. The service was great.

Very mediocre and highly over priced. Food is average. Service is arrogant and pushy. Ewwww. Feels like a desperate used car dealership. Was nearly empty on a Saturday night. Lobster vermicelli has maybe 6 tiny shreds of almost invisible lobster. Shameful really. Bathrooms are plain. The décor is average: I don’t get it.

The glazed shrimp which is basically Honey Walnut Shrimp tasted like it was coated with mayonnaise. The creaminess overwhelmed the flavors. The noodle dish they are famous for was boring. The noodles were overcooked. The sauce and meet was bland. The vegetable sides were the best part. The bok choy was nice and the green beans had a nice texture. But again the seasoning was on the green beans was boring. It was not garlicky enough. Overall, everything was over-priced and unimpressive. I like Panda Express better than this. The staff was extremely nice and helpful and even indicated to me when I was ordering too much food. They are the saving grace of this restaurant, the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one. If you want amazing dining in this neighborhood, go to Nobu.

I’m writing such a negative review based on three important points: the food, service, and price. Of course of price was not a factor and I was paying six dollars an entrée perhaps this would be a three star restaurant. The food simply was unremarkable. The lettuce cups was actually the highlight, the velvet chicken, beef, and especially the noodles were really subpar. The bonus… it took 95 minutes for the entre to be served. Yes, they were apologetic however there is no excuse for taking that long and then actually dropping the entrées at different times! Don’t waste your dime.

WORSTLADININGEXPERIENCEEVER(I’ve lived here for 10 years)! I usually don’t rant and rave, but I write this in hopes that no one wastes there money here. Yes — some of the food was good(excellent shrimp & duck). However… I think you can find just as good at a lower price and with better service. FIRST…we had a reservation. However, we were not seated until an hour and a half AFTER our reservation time! I know, we should of left, but they kept telling us 10 more minutes an the longer we were invested, the less we wanted to give up. Also, it got so late, no other place was open. While waiting the manager didn’t offer us a free drink, or a place to sit(my grandparents were with us and are elderly). Instead, they asked us to order our food while waiting. They asked this like they were doing us some sort of favor. However, if you are paying top dollar for a nice dine in experience, I don’t want to be asked to order ahead of time so we can be rushed in and rushed out! When we finally got a seat, the service was good. However, when I asked for another order of shrimp the waiter told me I didn’t want it. I did. I was starving at this point! But he said no. I found this odd.

Had an overall pleasant experience at this newish restaurant. It’s nice to have some fine dining options in Malibu other than Nobu and I enjoy the food, atmosphere and service at the Malibu Chow. On the Tuesday before Christmas it was not empty but also not packed, about half full. I love the sleek white décor and huge lily arrangements. It’s definitely trendy. They don’t bring menus unless you ask for them, but don’t be shy. I’ve been to Mr Chow in several states and still like to see a menu and be reminded of my options. Everything is served family style and there is no shortage of food. To start we had the chicken satay, the squab lettuce cups, the shrimp with walnuts and the Shanghai dumplings. My faves are the shrimp with walnuts and the lettuce cups. The shrimp are done in a tempura batter and served with glazed walnuts. The squad lettuce cups come with the addictive hoisin sauce and the lettuce gives a great crunch. For mains the drunken fish and fiery beef were fantastic. The duck was super dry and disappointing. I would not order the duck again. Green shrimp was also a miss. Be sure to get the fried rice on the side and pour the incredible drunken fish sauce all over the rice! Cheesecake for dessert was citrus flavored and not my favorite but, have a lychee martini, sit back and relax and enjoy the noodle show! Service is friendly and helpful. I will return.

Amazing! Great food. Great service. Great ambience. They have a patio that looks like it would be amazing for a private event. The noodles were okay but the drunken fish, broccoli, shrimp fried rice and beef with shepherds purse were amazing. And the chocolate cake is so rich! I also got the snicker martini which was delicious!

I love Mr. Chow — mostly for the people watching, It’s honestly some of the best in Los Angeles. Although I will admit that the first several times I visited the Malibu location I was less than impressed, service was lackluster at best(think snooty waiters and hostesses who thought they were too good to help you!) and the food was mediocre. So I stayed away, but last week I decided to give the Malibu location one last shot! Thankfully service has improved leaps and bounds, food was great and I am happy that I can place this spot back on my radar. We did the Beijing Duck 3 course meal which was priced at about $ 68.00/pp — Glazed Prawns with walnuts — Chicken Lettuce Wraps — Shanghai Little Dragon classic steamed soup dumplings — Mr. Chow Noodles — Dressed Dungeness Crab * off the shell folded into a cloud of egg whites(amazing!) — Crispy Beef — Beijing Duck(which is served and carved table side!) All the food was amazing, the two favorites would be the Dressed Dungeness Crab and the Beijing Duck! Both were different and flavorful. The duck was crispy and cooked perfectly!
