This place can do better. The guy who answers the phone can be rude some times, I had asked him about the size of chappati and I was cross-questioned if I had never eaten chappati before? And was polite enough(yes I am being sarcastic) to pass on the phone to somebody else(who was courteous though) The two dishes that I had ordered Baingan Bartha(egg plant based dish) & Paneer Bhurji(cottage cheese based dish), were filled with peas! Not at all up to the mark! Their other items that I have tried before aren’t worth mentioning, they still aren’t upto the mark. But yes I would like to add that ‘Cholle Bhature’ and ‘Samosa chaat’ are decent enough. (Note: if the owners or management of this place are reading this post, there are restaurants in Boston, wherein chappati sizes are different. They needn’t be standard to what Indian households make)

I love the Chicken Tikka Masala here. While I don’t visit too often, it has been consistently delicious every time. My most recent visit was last week and it was the first time I had dined in the new location. Per usual, the Chicken Tikka Masala was delicious. For an appetizer, we ordered Vegetable Samosas; they were just ok. Edible, but kinda greasy. My mom got Dal which was good, as well. I also had a Mango Lassi which was very tasty, but I like my beverages really cold and so I requested a cup of ice. Surprisingly, the server told me they didn’t have any! Weird, I thought. My ranking for 3 stars is because the restaurant’s ambience is really bad, and the lack of ice had me question refrigeration(although, does that mean all items are fresh, not frozen?) The dining area is located in the back of the grocery store and it’s a little depressing. I felt like I was being sequestered in a basement. The prices are very good, though, and naturally they would go up with a remodel, so I totally get it, but still. That being said, the waiter was really really nice and I frequent the grocery area perhaps weekly and all staff is so very sweet.

This is a review of the $ 7.99 lunch buffet at the new location, next to the Dunkin Donuts. I’ve seen the sign for the lunch buffet many times and wanted to try it out. Since the wife had a day off, I suggest we try it for lunch. I joked that at $ 7.99, they are going to lose money on this transaction. They would be better off handing me $ 2 to have me go away! We enter, expecting a restaurant, but see a convenient store instead. I look up and there’s a banner in the back for the restaurant. We walk to the back and see the a couple of tables and a buffet. There were no other customers. We sat down and said we would have the buffet. I picked up a plate and it felt a bit greasy. Proceeded to look over the food options and it didn’t look good. It’s probably the worst buffet I’ve ever had. There were 2 chicken dishes, one was chicken & spinach and the other was like a chicken tikki masala. In both cases, the chicken was overcooked, so the meat was tough. The rest were vegetarian. The dishes were very watered down. It was like someone cooked a bowl of chicken Paneer and poured a cup of water into it to stretch out the portion size. If that was what they were going for, mission accomplished. The onion«pakoras» were just a pile of previously frozen onion rings you would buy from the market. The rice and naan was served in the buffet pans, but over stretched plastic wrap instead of the actual pan. I guess this saves them $$ by not having to wash the pans. I feel weird eating rice served on top of slightly melted plastic. The tongs rested on the buffet table/pans instead of a plate on the side, so the all metal tongs were hot as hell. I have manly callused hands, so I’m good, but they would definitely burn more sensitive hands. Just stay away from the buffet.

Pls. Ever ever ever. Go to this place. For the birthday of one of our friend we went to this place… we can’t even call it a Restaurant… 1. The guy not even welcomed us. 2. We asked for a table… he said you can sit anywhere… I suppose we can’t sit and eat in the shop. 3. They did not even offer water. no courtesy to ask whether we need cold or regular water. 4. The table tissue paper was smaller than my toilet paper or facial tissue. where the hell they bought the tissue. 5. The worst table cutleries I have ever seen. Even the dollar store ones are good. 6. They said they don’t have any other meat other than chicken. we decided to go some variety of chicken. OMG… you will not believe it what we got. 7. They said they are very specialized in Briyani … OMg… you will not believe in what I got. 8. Ok we got the food. now where r the ladles to serve the food… never… we used our own spoons… 9. Let is come to the menu. Chicken Curry — Cooked Chicken from fridge.(not sure how many days old). with hot water and some ready made spices… heat it for 10 minutes… h 10. Same chicken only the spices are different… what a chef? 11. Briyani — never I could imagine… Steam Rice. Not sure how many old… Same Curry… OMG. this is the funniest thing. Cooked mixed vegetables(must be from Costco?) — Beans, Green peas, Carrot, Corn… I never ever had so called Briyani in my life… Imagine when you mix Chicken Curry with Rice and mixed Vegetables. NEVEREVERGOTOTHISPLACE to have a TASTE of INDIANFOOD. YOUWILLALWAYSWILLHAVEDISLIKETOINDIANFOODFORTHERESTOFYOURLIFE. The owner brother is the CHIEFCHEF… I THINKHENEVEREVERCOOKEDTASTYFOODINHISLIFE.

Went to the new location for the lunch buffet on a sunday. Was excited because I have had takeout from them before at the old location and it was delicious. The restaurant is placed in the back of the store with no wall to seperate you from the customers shopping, which was awkward. Goofy party light on the ceiling and ugly dining room set up did not help either. We were the only two customers there so that also made things awkward. At this point I dont know why we just didnt leave, but at the end of the day we were there for the food, so onto the food… By far the worst buffet spread I have ever seen! I have been to over a dozen indian restaurants and lunch buffets and this was by far the worse. I dont even think you can call it naan nor did it even look like naan. The rest was rice, a few soupy vegatarian dishes, and some tandori chicken. Again being optomistic, we filled up our plates thinking maybe it would taste better than it looked. We took a few bites and it was pretty awful. So at that point we were not only weirded out by the place, but did not want to eat the food either. We told the man working there we wanted to leave because we did not feel well, just trying to be polite. He asked us if we didn’t like the food and made us feel even more uncomfortable. I am not the type of person at all to blow up on someone even if Im not happy, so that upset me even more. He proceeded to bill us full price for 2 buffets, which he has every right to even though we had about 3 bites combined. I would reccomend either sticking with ordering takeout or avoiding this place completely.

NOOOODON’T LEAVE! Went by today for dinner and the owner told us that in about 3 months he’s forced to move because the person that bought the whole building wants to put a Chinese restaurant there. WHY!!! That’s like putting a pizza/sub shop or phở place there. We have ENOUGH of those. I’m so sad to see him leave and he’s been there 15 yrs! Ugh. Ok back to my review. I got the Jeera Aloo spicy and MAN was that spicy. I usually get something that has lots of sauce which apparently makes it less spicy. But this… Whoo I was sniffling and sweating and my lips were on fy-ah. But it was good! My boyfriend got something Korma Kashmiri that he said was really good and he ate every bit of it. We also got garlic nan which never lets us down and this time we tried Tandoori Peshawri Nan which has cashews, pistachios and raisins in it. Oh man was that good! New fav nan. Go and enjoy while it’s still there.

Unbelievable that I’ve never been here. Certainly will be back regularly. Spice — n — Hot is tiny — seating for 8 maybe at 4 booth tables. Menus and specials plastered on the wall. A hole in the wall to order from. The place was clean and the kitchen was gleaming. A wonderful start for this«hole in the wall» that has a hole in the wall to order from. Paneer Tikka Masala($ 7.45) with homemade cheese cooked with onions, bell pepper, tomatoes peas and mild spices was incredible. Options for spiciness range from mild to medium to hot to extra hot. The Paneer came with the traditional Tikka sauce and was fresh, tasty, thick and substantive. The food was cooked to order as the wait was about 10 minutes and you can watch through the hole as the food is put together. Served in a plastic pint container, the Hot was spicy but not unbearable and came with a garnish of a very hot looking green pepper in the middle — somehow presentation even in a plastic container. Served on tray with a paper plate of saffron basmati rice, excellent. Added an order of plain nan — made fresh to order and it was some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Hot, crispy yet soft, not too greasy. Well done. Definitely worth a trip to check this place out.

Everytime I drive home at the end of the day, I go by Spice N Hot and I have to say, I’m glad I finally decided to try it. Sure there seems to be a myriad of reviews saying its great and others saying that its awful, but(as you can see by my rating) I think it’s pretty terrific. Bear in mind, this is only based on my first time patronizing this establishment, so I will update if and when I change my mind on that point. There are four fastfood-joint type tables where we waited while our order was being whipped up for take out. I will agree with one of the other reviewers that this seems more like a take out restaurant, but it wouldn’t be horrible place to dine in, it’s just more cafeteria style than waited tables. There are a number of posters and framed pieces of artwork showcasing Indian artwork in an otherwise sparsely decorated eating area. The counter where you order your food is kind of comical and very effective. Imagine a square hole in a wall that is covered completely with laminated pieces of paper, alternating menu items and prices with pictures of those items. Literally, there is no space of wall left behind here. Very effective too, as I am planning on getting a paneer dish showcased just above the window hole next time. We got the Paneer Naan, Mango Lassi(sp?), Chicken Tikka Masala, and Lamb Vindaloo. Seriously good stuff. We told the guy at the counter we wanted ‘spicy’ and that’s exactly what we got. Also, I don’t pretend to be an expert when it comes to authentic Indian dishes, but this didn’t taste like something out of a box or just tomato sauce spiced up. I mean it when I say It was really hard not to go for seconds. And, they gave us a ton of saffron rice! Yum yum yum.

Ordered the Paneer Tikka Masala, Malai Kofta and a veggie samosa. I have to agree with the poster that said that he is a better cook; I am too. When I make Malai Kofta, is isn’t overcooked mashed potatoes that I also put into my Samosas. And I don’t use watered down Ragu with a few extra spices on everything either. It was edible, but it wasn’t good.

Spice N Hot is a hidden gem. Walk in and you’re greeted by a random Bollywood movie and décor that looks straight out of the 70’s. A hole-in-the-wall for sure, but that’s not what you come for. I’ve been ordering food from here for years and always get take out, but there are typically a couple groups of people eating at the small selection of tables. The one dish that keeps me coming back is the samosa chat. Seriously, one of the best Indian dishes I’ve ever had. They’re an amazing combination of crunchy, sweet, savory and all around delicious. Other main dishes(chicken tika masala, sagg paneer, chicken korma, etc.) are also quite tasty. They offer a good variety of naan’s and various other breads as well. If you want really solid Indian food at very reasonable prices Spice N hot is definitely worth a visit.

I LOVESPICE N HOT!!! Their food is amazing! My mouth waters everytime I think about them! You call and place your order and leave to pick it up, it’s ready when you get there. We always ordered Chicken and Lamb Tikka Masala but, lately we’ve been trying some new things off the menu… like Korma Kashmiri. Everything Spice N Hot has to offer has been of the utmost quality and keeps out bellies full!

I go to Spice N Hot about once a week. I’ve tried a lot off their menu, and some stuff not on it. The chicken tandori is pretty good and is all breast meat, which is different from any other place I’ve had it at. My friend is a picky eater and she was pleased there wasn’t any dark meat. The aloo nan is great, one of my favs. The chicked pakoras are great too, but they run out quick. My favorite dishes are the Punjabi Kadhi(yogurt saffron soup), lamb tikka massala, and the samosa chaat(house specialty). The best thing about this place is that it’s cheap! All the dishes are under $ 10, usually 7 – 9. I would have given it 5 stars, but there was one occassion where the food was a little too salty, but considering how often I order from them, they have a good track record. This place is small and strictly take out(no delivery). You can eat in, I guess, but they only have about 4 tables to eat at.

I am not sure why everyone else is giving this place such a bad review. I live in the back bay area and I have tried the indian food around here and it is okay. Spice N Hot is great!!! Everytime I go there my food is made to perfection. I love the samosas. Chicken biryani is usually what I end up getting. The staff there are very friendly and always have something to recommend. I highly recommend this place. I will be going there for how ever long he is there.

The best place to get Indian food in Malden, is not spice n hot but walk a few yards from this place and lo behold… you are at my place. Honestly I can cook better than this place…(ladies please take notice) I called to order takeout on a Friday evening only to get the response«the oven is not setup»…so there goes any type of bread or the appetizer stuff. how can you not have it up and working on a Friday nite. So anyway I go ahead and order some lamb curry and chicken biryani. sorely disappointed when I tasted them. cant rate the place lower than this hence the 1 star.
