Went here for the«High Tea». Certainly not an English high tea. Décor is lovely but French. Many flavors of tea are offered. The soup we had was delicious. A small slice of quiche and a small salad composed of romaine, shredded carrots, 1 slice of cucumber and a few black olives. Where as most tea shops offer mini sandwiches, we got egg salad on white bread(½ a sandwich each), chicken salad on a croissant and tuna salad open faced on a piece of rye mini bread. The menu also listed as getting«savories» with the Royal Tea but they must have been hiding. The«signature» dessert was a tiny chocolate mousse tart, 1 cookie and 1 chocolate rum ball. Definitely not worth the price. Nice place to eat but if you want to have a true English Tea experience, I suggest going to another place.

An ok place, the macaroons are good but a few of the other deserts I’ve had didn’t seem fresh and were not good. Cappuccinos are good. This place never seems busy… I want to try the tea room but it’s never open, I guess it’s only for special occasions or by reservation only?

This place is average, in my opinion. A friend and I went a few months ago for breakfast, and although the service was polite, there was only one employee taking orders, bringing out food and coffee, and ringing up customers at the counter who were getting baked goods/paying for breakfast. She tried her best to be attentive to everyone and it wasn’t her fault. I ordered the smoked salmon vol au vent and my friend ordered a cheese omelet. The food took a little while to come out(I finished an entire cup of coffee before it arrived and waited a good half hour for a refill) but lacked some attention to detail. The smoked salmon was good, but the puff pastry was ice cold, as though it had just been pulled out of the fridge. The dish would have benefited from the puff pastry being warmed or toasted. The poached egg was properly cooked and full of oozy yolk, and the hollandaise properly creamy albeit a bit bland, but the ice cold puff pastry really killed the dish for me. My friend said her omelet contained«too much cheese»(never trust someone who thinks that) but the portion was sizable and she ended up leaving half on the plate. Before leaving, we decided to get some pastries. I was going to get some macarons, but $ 3.50 for a regular sized macaron is outrageous, so I got 2 pastries instead. I really wanted to like this place since the food prices are fair and there’s a lack of cafes in the area, but I would not return. The service is slow(due to only 1 person working the front when I went on a week day morning), the food passable, and the décor is outdated. The pastry items are fresh and the 2 pastries I got were good, but I would not go back just for pastries. It’s a bit pretentious with an air of old school charm, minus any actual charm.

It’s a shame that this place is run by the owners that it has because the concept is different and unique to the area. Food was OK but don’t expect to feel like you have eaten a meal. The problem I have is they don’t know how to run a food business at all! Totally ruined Mothers Day for my mom-in-law and grandmother. They charged for an extra person after we called in the morning to let them know one person had gotten sick. But they don’t care. Disappointment all around.

Horrible owners. They canceled my bridal shower two days before my event. This is after the deposit was made, invites where sent out, and I had family n friends from long distance coming in. There was absolutely no reason behind them doing so other then me asking if tables could be pushed together so that my party could all sit together. What I got in return was the owner screaming at me saying«don’t tell how to run my business», excuse me but what? So I had to actually get the police involved. Even with the cop there the owners were extremely rude and basically charging at me. When I asked for my deposit to be returned, the owner puts it on someone else’s credit card, when I explained that it that wasn’t my card number he began arguing and yelling at me. I physically had to go on my banks website and show the cop where the deposit was debit and my card number. Please by all means avoid this place at all cost. Save yourself the time and money!!! This place shouldn’t be in business, owners are very rude and just nasty people.

I ate here for breakfast this morning and was very satisfied! Their food is absolutely delicious, the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time! If you come here for breakfast you have to try their home fries, they are the best. I also enjoyed their eggs and french bread(they don’t serve traditional toast). It’s a cute little place with a nice ambiance and good service. It is a quaint but casual café, great for a quick bite. And it felt authentically French.

The moment you walk in, you feel like you’ve been transported to 1980. I wanted to understand the charm/appeal of the place but the more you saw, the more disappointing it was. First off, Even if you can forgive the ambiance, the service is so confusing. We were first told to sit and they gave us menus. After waiting patiently for some time, I saw another frustrated customer walk up to the cashier to complain. I ended up ordering at the front and a waitress brought us our food. The pastries were all store bought and I saw the owner touching them with his bare hands while cleaning and collecting money. The coffee was old and disgusting. I ordered poached eggs with a French baguette. They had eggs Benedict on their menu so I assumed they were capable of making poached eggs but they were microwaved in a mold!!! And I almost forgot, this«French bakery» does not have French baguettes. I got a dinner roll with my eggs. Lastly, the prices are high and do not justify the food or the service. The whole experience left me scratching my head.

The tea room has beautiful china and is a very nice place to catch up with girlfriends. One of our friends found a hair in her sandwich, but I’m still in denial about it. :-( The lady exchanged it for us and seemed to be in a little denial as well. That upset my friend. Also, I did notice the tea room had a strange old musty smell. I didn’t like that about it. Otherwise, the lady serving us was very nice in my opinion. They were too particular about needing to know the exact number of guests before arrival. She said I would get charged for extra people even though they didn’t show up. We were a party of 8 girls. Luckily, we were all there. The scones were delicious as well as the soup. I really want to give it another shot because it’s so close to my home and is the only tea house near me, but really hope it smells better and I don’t see anything besides food on my plate. :-/

The food is good, but the service SUCKS! I will never go here again. I came once to have brunch with my aunt in the café and no one served us. They just brought out the food. If you needed something you would have to walk up to the counter and ask but no one came and checked up on us. I also went to a party in the HIGHTEA room. The ladies were nice but they served all the food at once for a 3 hour party. The portions were also very small. Also, no cake or dessert at the end of the party. Then a lady came and thought us etiquette which was nice of her but she was pretty strict and rude about it. Keep in mind we were all 16. Overall; good food, small portions, HORRIBLE service

My sister and I took our mother here for Mother’s Day! I recommend them for your next family gathering, such as Mother’s Day or even to host a bridal shower. The owner was very friendly, and so was her staff. The décor was so beautiful and I felt like I was in a friend’s house. The service was great and the food was fresh as well. They will make arrangements for you if you are vegetarian, gluten sensitive, etc. There was also a beautiful gift shop inside as well. When we went, the menu was preset and was very tasty. They had a raffle for the mother’s and had family read poems to mother’s. It was a beautiful day and I highly recommend this place. Gorgeous!

Bön Appetit has 2 separate businesses(café & tea room) at the same location. This review is for the café. Went there for a late breakfast, my first time at the place. It is really a mom & pop establishment. The menu is small and good. The food is a bit pricey for Mahwah. It is self service. sort of. It look a long time for the food to come out but that was OK since we were not in a hurry. The food was delicious. Glad to locate this place. I would definitely be back to try other dishes. Hope I can give them 4 stars the next time.

Went to Bön Appetit for afternoon tea with my girlfriends a couple Sundays ago and it was a great experience! The person who took care of us was so sweet and friendly and honestly, her service made the experience much more enjoyable. There are over 40 different teas you can choose from and each person is given their own tea pot which was more than enough. I recommend the mint chocolate tea, it was divine. Aside from the tea, the food was great too. Overall, it was a great experience. There was no rush to leave and it was a great place to talk with your girlfriends and catch up.

I had been there many times… for years. This place might need a little update on the décor to make it more exciting, but pastries and lunch are both very very very good!

My friends and I made reservations to eat at their tea room. Our waitress was very nice and explained the options and answered our questions. 2 of us ordered the royal tea, and the third ordered the victorian. We enjoyed the zucchini soup, estrada(spelling?) which looked like an egg frittata, 3 different kinds of finger sandwiches, cranberry scones with raspberry jam and cream, and the cookies and rum ball sweets. Although we were the last party of the day, they didn’t rush us at all. Afterwards, we went next door for some pastries to take home. The almond brioche was really good!

We had the salmon special and it was really good. Tasty but not too salty, the salmon is nicely cooked, not too dry. I don’t usually like salmon but I like this dish. We also have the Belgian waffle, soft, moist. I wish they put more fruits. The pastries are good too. The service is on the slow side but everyone was friendly. The décor is old, they must have been around for a long time. We’ll come back. We were told kitchen closed at 230 even though they open until 530pm.

Not much in the way of décor, this café has delightful eats and pastries. The croissants were so soft, crispy and yummy I bought those remaining for our New Years Day breakfast tomorrow. Quiche with salad was filling and lovely. Also the chicken vegetable with orzo soup was truly like mom use to make. I even bought an almond pastry to try later tonight. The proprietor, Edward, was delightful and accommodating. Prices are on the high end, but all was fresh and delicious. I’ll definitely be back for more.

Hidden gem in Mahwah. This place has the best waffles and desserts. I also love the chicken croissant and the crepes. The Norwegian salad with salmon also taste great. But my favorites are their desserts. EVERYTHING is light yet creamy and super delicious. Love the hazelnut mousse cake, tiramisu, apricot tart, and mango/strawberry/raspberry mousse.
