We have eaten at Dish many times and each time I think it has been better and better! Not only is the food a journey from beginning to end, but the service is always incredible and the atmosphere is so cozy! As a parent to 2 children with food allergies and sensitivities it is not only complicated to go out to eat but to find a place that«gets it» is also a task– here they have always been more than accommodating, wonderful and helped my kids to leave with huge smiles! I was lucky enough to have been gifted a sample box of Chef Peter’s truffles… OMG. I had every intention of sharing them with my husband but as soon as I tried them I knew they were going into the darkest corner of my kitchen to hide so I could enjoy them completely to myself. I realize how awful that makes me sound, but if you try them you will immediately know why it was so easy to make that choice– they are *out of this world*. I also had a bag of his sipping chocolate– which to be completely honest, I wasn’t sure what to do with at first, the aroma has hints of cinnamon and some other spices– but in an extremely subtle subtle way, because it is unquestionably chocolate. I didn’t want to waste it on a glass of chocolate milk and ended up using it in a homemade brownie recipe, and well… I never want to go back to regular cocoa powder again! Go. Just GO. Not only that– buy whatever they have there that you can walk out with because you will NOT be disappointed!

We were headed to Mohegan Lake to hear a band and selected Dish because it was en route and had so many good reviews. This is a casual spot next to a dry cleaners but do not be deceived — the food is awesome. Our waitress was very nice and helpful and the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. I had the black truffle burata — a great starter. Now I am not a fan of duck but the duck two ways enticed me. I enjoyed the crispy duck leg with bourbon maple sauce but I would try something else next time. I was thinking about the HOMEMADE ramen with smoked pork belly the whole night. My husband had the kale salad which was fresh and tasty. THEN… the GNUDI — a rectangular plate with a line of five large dumplings, spinach?, bolognese sauce and shaved cheese. The taste, texture and combination of flavors and the presentation makes this dish(no pun intended) DISH. The pomegranate sour was interesting. My husband had a hot chocolate type dessert — $ 3 dessert to end a great meal. Thank you Peter and staff!

Just came back from first time ever at this place. Excellent food, courteous staff and you can tell the owner takes pride. Had the grass fed bistro burger. I now know why thats even a thing. Top 3 Ive ever had. Once youre in my top 3, the order doesnt matter. Support your local small businesses. Guys like this deserve it.

We are thrilled to have an upscale restaurant so close by that has vegan options. We used to have to settle for pasta or salad but now we have wonderful choices of salads, starters, entrees, sandwiches and dessert! Thank you, chef Peter, for bringing your talents to our town and doing it so well! We love the vegan options and your staff is wonderful! Keep up the great work, more vegan options please!

Attending my first Wine Dinner at Dish. Super tasty starters, and 5 courses of amazing food. One dish better than the other and all mouth wateringly good! Wild mushroom bisque, sea bass, shichimi duck breast, venison medallion all paired with fantastic wines. I haven’t even mentioned the delectable deserts!!! Way to go Chef !!

Worst place ever, after waiting over an hour for dinner, I actually paid to leave without getting served. The chef could not serve 5 dinners at a time and gave me a hard time because I was waiting so long. My daughter asked when I was leaving if the dinner was ready he said yes but still could not serve dinner. This place is a joke don’t waste your time

We went to Dish to celebrate our dad’s birthday. The restaurant is cozy and intimate. The servers are friendly friendly and helpful. The food is amazing! Farm-to-table concept with a Mediterranean slant. I ordered from the restaurant week menu… shrimp and chorizo app and striped bass with autumn vegetable farroto. Delicious! Also tried a taste of my sister’s meal — porcini dusted ny strip with smoked marrow butter and truffled fries. WOW!!! I definitely recommend this restaurant!!!

Stopped in here for a late dinner a few weeks ago. Called to make sure it wasn’t too late and the manager said no problem! He was also our waiter. Really friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. I checked in on Unilocal and got 50% off a glass of wine too! I had the garlic shrimp and chorizo to start which was perfectly cooked. My friend had the duck tacos and the rösti. The rösti was absolutely amazing. It was fried in duck fat and melted in your mouth. For my entrée I got the duck bolognese. The gnudi were to die for! They were big but light and seasoned perfectly and the duck bolognese sauce also was excellent. I can’t wait to go back again.

Full disclosure: Chef Peter is someone whom I’ve known for many years. I’ve only ever met him a handful of times during those years, but I have to be up front about restaurant that I review for the sake of integrity. I’ve wanted to come here for many, many years. Basically, ever since the restaurant opened. This week, I was *FINALLY* able to take a trip to Mahopac and dive deeply into the food porn that is ‘Dish’. Straight off, you can tell that this is not only a place with some serious class, but a place where you will be seriously welcomed. It’s not a large establishment, think mid-range with a capacity of roughly 40, maybe? It’s cozy, but not in the way that people use the phrase cozy to describe airplane seats. This place is cozy in the way that puts you at ease… cozy in a way that makes you just want to wiggle your shoulders and sigh with happiness. The entire décor manages to be attractive without pretension, upscale without being exclusionary. The ticket price might be a bit higher than some of the pizza joints around the way, but I can promise you from the depths of my heart that if you give the food a chance, it’ll speak volumes to you. I’ve had two dining experiences here thus far(with more planned), and I can honestly say that both exceeded my expectations. On the first night, I enjoyed a bowl of the pork belly ramen and a few of their Belgian drafts. We had a rather large party, which I often find myself overly apologetic for, but the service has always been unreservedly friendly and welcoming. Everyone who works here is genuinely *great*. Hospitable. Committed to creating a great experience for the customers. I realize that I’ve strayed from describing the pork belly ramen, but that’s because I don’t really have the adjectives to do so. Suffice to say that I’m a fairly regular traveller to Tokyo, Noda-shi, Kashiwa, and other areas of Japan. The pork belly ramen at Dish is basically an equally delicious, healthier, less bloating bowl of porky brothy deliciousness as compared with anything you’ll find at a Japanese noodle shop. It will scratch the itch if you have it, and if not it’ll create a new itch that you won’t be able to scratch anywhere else. Pro-tip: bust the yolks in your mouth. You’re welcome. Their selection of beers and other beverages is quite impressive. I’ve not familiar enough with the Mahopac bar scene to have a basis for comparison, but I’d be willing to guess that there isn’t anywhere in a ten mile radius where you’ll find such diversity of drinks. Maybe I’m wrong, but even if I am, you still owe it to yourself to grab a drink at Dish. Not only because of the aforementioned great service, but because you can get a recommendation for food pairings with your drinks. Tonight I had the Bistro Steak, and I’d bet a toenail that you won’t find *ANYTHING* like this entrée in Mahopac. The sauce… the sauce will knock your socks off. Read the description on the menu. That’s right, the words ‘bone marrow’ are in there. You’re welcome. All in all, dining at Dish was an incomparable experience. If I lived in Mahopac, this would be my go-to place not just for a great night’s dinner, but for a casual drink now and again. You owe it to yourself to stop by and treat yourself. Bring a date! Bring a friend! But most importantly, bring an appetite and a willingness to try something new. Who knows… you might end up inspired!

Take a trendy little SOHO café and move it about 60 miles due North. Dish is a gem. Intimate, interesting décor Service is excellent. Friendly and attentive. We last visited here when they first opened and returned to find a completely revised menu and space. If you haven’t been here before, or if it has been awhile, It is worth a trip. The mussels were some of the best I have ever had, There is a high level of creativity here and it shows in both the presentation and preparation of dishes. Dish is in it’s own league when it comes to area restaurants. This quality does not come without cost however, and Dish is not inexpensive. Fourteen dollar appetizers and eight dollar drafts make this only a fair value.

Tonight had the most amazing meal at Dish Bistro for autumn. Are you ready for this? Homemade Pumpkin Cavatelli over butternut squash purée with mushrooms, walnuts, and big flakes of parmigiana cheese, top with brown butter sauce and fried sage. You haven’t lived until you’ve experienced crunchy fried sage exploding with flavor in your mouth. The Pumpkin Cavatelli was cooked just a little chewy almost like gnocchi but not as heavy. It was a perfect compliment for the texture of this dish. When it was served, I immediately dove in and started eating and forgot to take a picture of the dish. At that point I just couldn’t stop eating. I guess I’ll have go back and order it again. lol The culinary genius of Chef Peter and his team never ceases to amaze me. You gotta stop by and try this dish. It should stand up very well to a stout or a lager for the fall.

Ok I would of given 5 Stars hadn’t it been for the owner/Chef would recognize new Customers and still be able to maintain regulars. I believe you treat your patrons as though they were guest in your home. However, my son and I love going to Dish. I have been eating Organic since the late 80s. I love their«Angry Squid!» It is amazing sauteed they are correct. Everything about this Bistro I love. Remember when it 1 st opened and it was this Woman who m ade these amazing Organic Salads and I didn’t have to go to Mrs. Greens anymore. My Nicoise Salad was amazing. The Kale Salad Awesome! You definitely get what you pay for. I wish this place further success and becomes a trend in all eateries. I’m getting tired of doing all the shopping and prep. I want Dish to do it for me. :)

Every time I go to Dish I have had a wonderful experience. The food is always delicious and fresh. Attention is paid to presentation and flavors. Last Wednesday I had the Black Truffle Burrata– delicious ! Even the greens that the cheese was served on was perfectly seasoned with a lemony vinegrette. My partner had the fried oysters which had a spicy mayo and pineapple salsa. Interesting and delicious combo. Entrees we had were the vegetatrian ramen noodle bowl and the pear salad with NY strip. Both were great. We couldn’t resist the crème brûlée and it did not disappoint. You have to try this place !!!

Recently moved to the area and I was looking for an upscale dining experience that offers vegan/vegetarian options. Dish is it! I tried the fried cauliflower which was so good I opted for a 2nd order. For an entrée I had the pad Thai which I can’t wait to dive into the leftovers of today. The portion was big and yummy with some spice. Because i was so full i opted for the chocolate bites to wrap up the meal. They were two small pieces of salty dark chocolate but it was the perfect pairing with my glass of red wine. The staff at dish was great, wine list is impressive and it seems like a place I’ll find myself stopping by every weekend.

The food at Dish always fantastic. Tonight I had the vegan Mai Pad Thai and it was amazing. It wasn’t spicy enough so I asked the chef for more kimchi and that did the trick. The only problem is that I had no room for dessert :(

There is really only one restaurant in Mahopac, and that’s Dish. Everyone else is just pretending. Definitely one of the better restaurants in Westchester or Putnum valley. The food is very complex, presentation is tasteful, and portions are perfect. The menu is not pigeonholed to any one cuisine and there seems to be a large variety of international flavors. I had the Porchetta, which I think is a Northern European dish. The pork was perfectly cooked. Came with vegetables and salad, which were fresh and perfectly paired and prepared. It’s been a while since I had a truly good crème brûlée. And again I was not disappointed. The crust was perfectly rich, the crème was the right temperature and incredible flavor. The espresso was above average for the area, same for the cappuccino. But I think they can do better. I would love to have the coffee be pulled up to the standard of let’s say Underline Coffee in Chelsea. It’s not easy and I know that this is not a café but from the conversation I had with the owner I’m sure he’s capable.

My husband and I come here whenever we have a chance. He loves the wine selection and had fish du jour sandwich with soft shell on it, I love the brisket sandwich. The desserts here too never fail, we opted for the dark chocolate peanut butter cake(which was vegan… I was skeptical) but it was great. Look forward to the next time!

Dear Peter(from Dish), I really appreciate that you took the time to reply in such a professional manner. Thank you for explaining your policy, and thank you for making the effort to clarify and inform the public of this policy on your website. I have enjoyed eating at Dish since 2010, and I am glad that the restaurant is in your very capable hands as a chef. It is a culinary gem in our community, and a place that my wife and I have brought many friends and colleagues to over the past four years. I remain strongly convinced that your policy is a serious mistake which does not meet the expectations of regular patrons who have supported Dish. I urge you to change the policy. That said, because of your response on Unilocal,I am willing to modify my review from 1 star to 3. For the record, if the policy was changed, it would be a five star review. Matt

My college roommate Chris lives near this place and has been telling me for years I should check it out with him. So, tonight I finally made the trek from NYC to meet him for dinner. OH…MY…GOD! Everything was PERFECT, so much so that I FINALLY decided to post my first ever Unilocal review. Yes, that’s right, this is my first ever Unilocal review. Like I said, everything was perfect. The wait staff(Danielle and Zoli) was so friendly and attentive, and Chef Peter comes out often to greet and chat with customers. The beer selection is exotic and top notch. We had River Horse(a Trappist style beer) wonderfully paired with their cheese plate. I had the grilled sirloin entrée medium rare, cooked. It came with these AMAZING French Fries, cooked with white truffle oil and parmigiana. perfectly. Chris had the kale salad with grilled sirloin, pignoli nuts with a lemon vinaigrette. We each had a sake infused crème brûlée for dessert. This place is totally worth the two hour round trip from NYC! I hope to be back soon!
