Awesome food. Pepper chicken curry, chicken 65 and chicken biryani were very flavorful and authentic with a nice spicy kick. Good food in a long long time !!!

I have been to all the Indian restaurants in Madison/Huntsville and the fresh and creative cuisine of Saffron is absolutely the best. They are not scared to introduce the American palate to the authentic and aromatic flavors of India. Cardamom, cloves, tamarind, mint, cilantro, coconut, curries, chutnies, ginger… its a party for your palate! ps.The lunch buffet is incredible.

Excellent food and service, dishes always fresh, tasty, interesting spices. Worth the visit for the cheese naan. We enjoy the lamb curry, chicken tikka masala, tandor chicken, coconut chicken; we should experiment more, but love these popular dishes. Our kids live downtown DC and enjoy Indian cuisine regularly, like to eat here when visiting, say Saffron compares favorably.

We LOVE this place! We have moved across town to S. Huntsville and still journey across town now and then to eat here. The food is fantastic. Service can be a bit slow if it is really busy but honestly the food is worth the wait.

This is the best Indian food I’ve had in Huntsville and Madison. Their portions are generous. The service can be a little slow, but it’s a small business, and when the server is at your table they are focused on you only. The atmosphere is nice, though the music can be a little louder than my personal preference. It’s much nicer than you would expect in a shopping center. Be aware!!! They are closed on Mondays! Not a problem, just something to be aware of. I highly recommend Saffron if you are jonesing for some really good Indian food.

I absolutely loved their service. I went here for lunch with a friend and my baby, they were very polite and professional, promptly brought a chair for my little one and even if, we, accidentally stayed 30 min after their closing time the waiters were wonderful and i can’t thank them enough for their kindness. The food was also very tasty and flavorful. Will definitely return to try them for dinner.

From Indian point of view… Lunch buffet: Food was not spicy but number of items are more. So you like few… The best in Huntsville and Madison.

Very good! I like the chips where you dip in two different sauces while waiting for the meal. And the quality of non-buffet meals especially chicken tikka masala is pretty good. I enjoy the buffet as well and they taste a little better than some other buffets I’ve tried in other states. It could be better if there was hot milk tea as a part of buffet(usually the most Indian buffets have it) and a little more selection while maintaining the quality of food.

Southern Indian food without coconut chutney? what is going on. How can you seriously look Indian people in the eyes and say that you do not serve coconut chutney any more? Bizarre.

Best Indian food in Huntsville/Madison area HANDSDOWN! Small place and the food is aunthentic. I always eat at lunch because I love the buffet, I get to try everything. This place is much better that the famous Sitar on Jordan lane. I tried both places, I love saffron all the way.

We have been regulars here for a while and have witnessed the restaurant’s service go from good to worse. Apart from the fact that the taste of the food has turned out to be mediocre for several of our visits, the ambience takes a big hit by the music choices and sound levels maintained at the restaurant. The staff is rude while interacting with customers and its disappointing to see an Indian restaurant in the area tread a path downhill.

Great place! The atmosphere is very intimate/authentic Indian décor. Staff was friendly and we got seated right away. We did have to wait a little while for the food but once I actually tasted it all was forgiven :-) We definitely should have checked out the menu before arriving because it was a little confusing and we probably asked our poor waiter a million questions before ordering. I got the goat curry — medium and cheese naan. For those who aren’t used to eating Indian food, proceed with caution because they use A LOT of spices that might make your tummy rumble. If you get the cheese naan I would recommend you order it with your drinks because that took the longest to come out. Overall it’s a great place! I will definitely be back!

I’ve been here like 3 weeks out of 4 so far this year. I would’ve come last week had I actually been in town. To say that Saffron is officially on the lunch circuit is almost as understand as saying the staff might as well grab some job applications for my lunch crew and myself. I’m scratching my head at the earlier reviews talking about the lack of service. I’ve never had a problem. The only time we have a gaffe was when the young lady comes out to tell us the extra naan was taking so long because there was an order of chicken tandoori ahead of ours. To me, that actually speaks to a degree of authenticity that I can appreciate. And I’m rarely in a rush(or I won’t come). But again, the servers are downright sweet and at the worst service is friendly. Now… The food. So far, I haven’t tried the buffet but I don’t see a point at this point; I actually prefer the A la carte menu and the small copperish pots that the curries are served in. Plus, the buffet looks to be only a slither of the much more encompassing menu; there are about 80 items on the menu… and I’ll probably go through them all. I hadn’t had mango pickle in quite some time and now… I’ve even convinced the the crew that they like it, too. Big hits at our table include the lamb curry, lamb chettinad, goan fish curry, chicken sukka, and the samosas. One of the lunch crew enjoyed the chicken tikka but I still hold that it’s just ok… especially given all the other wonderful choices. Next week… I’ll try the dosas to see how they stack up.

I had to give the Alabama Indian restaurants a second chance. Since Indian Palace was a bit of a let down I am please to say Saffron was a hit. The service is a bit slow but it’s a small family operation and they are doing their best. This place is busy and there are a lot of Indian folks here. These are good signs. Fr the basket of chips and crackers with Mi t sauce and tamarin to my chicken Korma everything was excellent. I recommend this place and am happy to say spicy here means spicy. Not too hot to kill the taste.

We’ve found our new FAVorite Indian restaurant here in northern Alabama! Coming from SoCal where we had a variety of authentic cuisines to choose from, we’ve found it difficult to experience similarly in the almost 2 years since moving out here. But every now and then as we venture out and explore new restaurants will find a hidden gem worthy of a review as this one is. Upon entering for dinner tonight, we were welcomed to sit anywhere we preferred. We quickly scanned the dimly lit ambiance and chose a table against a wall across from where the only other couple in the restaurant were on the opposite side of the restaurant. We like our privacy. :) Lizette, our waitress, promptly offered to take our drink order as my husband helped me remove my jacket and pulled out my chair to sit down(yes, there are still some gentlemen out there and I’m grateful God granted me one as my husband for life). Shortly after that came a basket w a variety of colorful rice chips and wheat/rice circle chips with two dips — mint chutney and tandoori sauce(I think that’s what it was?!) for us to nibble on. Our mouths watered looking over the menu. Everything was reasonably priced. We settled for the Cheese Naan(4 big pieces) to start off with. My husband opted for the Lamb Saag at a spicy level while I chose the Chicken Tikka Masala at a medium spicy level for our dinner entrees. The wait was not long. Both arrived and were served in interesting copper/gold-like dishes, each with separate plates of rice(refer to attached images). After blessing the food, we dove right in without delay! The Lamb Saag had a nice kick to it(too spicy for me but perfect for the hubby). The Chicken Tikka Masala had a good creamy punch to it with a perfect medium spicy level where I can actually still taste the flavor and not have to deal w a runny nose from anything spicier than medium. Nevertheless, both entrees were succulent and flavorsome!!, so delectable that we finished our food to the very last drop — believe it or not. No doggy bags for us here and definitely no room for dessert! ;) By the time we finished our dinner, we noticed that the crowd must have rolled in while we were focused on enjoying our dinner together(celebrating 21 months of marriage) and it was no longer just two couples as in the beginning. Will we be back? Well, with an attentive and very kind staff, plus genuine Indian food which is rare here in the south, you can surely bet we’ll be back! Cool thing too to note was that we came here on a Groupon($ 11 for $ 20 worth of food). This authentic Indian restaurant is definitely worth a visit even without a Groupon! Thank you, Saffron Indian Restaurant, Lizette, and the rest of the staff, for serving authentic Indian food. Y’alls have 2 new satisfied customers that will be back soon, if not often! ;)

I was nearby, there aren’t a ton of choices in the area if you don’t want to stray too far, and I had bookmarked this place already based on the reviews… so I stopped in for lunch. Let me start by saying I had never tried Indian food prior to this visit and that means I have no idea how Saffron compares to other Indian restaurants. I’m not really fond of buffets but I figured that since I didn’t know one dish from the other this would be a good opportunity to sample the cuisine. The buffet was clean and well organized and they appeared to have a good selection. There were at least 5 or 6 meat options, several vegetable options, a couple of appetizer style choices, one soup, and a variety of sauces. My biggest complaint was that the chicken was barely warm but when I told the waitress about it she immediately went to check the temperatures. I tried bites of several items. A few things, like the Chicken Tikka Masala, didn’t have much flavor. I was expecting a little more punch than what was offered but I really don’t know how it’s supposed to taste. These were my favorites: 1. Lentil soup-this was packed with flavor, a little spicy. 2. Naan– OMG I’ve had naan from the grocery store but I loved this fresh naan, a little chewy with crispy edges. I ate way more than I should. 3. Chili chicken– this had a little more flavor than the other chicken options. I liked the blend of spices on the chicken. 4. Saag Paneer–(spinach and cottage cheese) like an Indian version of spinach dip. It was delicious paired with naan. Honorable mentions: –Tandoori chicken-tender chicken legs but not an overwhelming flavor –Hakka noodles-very good flavor –Mint chutney– I don’t know what the heck you’re supposed to put this on but I tried a delicious dab as I took baby steps into the world of Indian food Verdict: I would definitely come back and focus on those dishes I really loved.
