This listing is for the main office of RH and EH Carpenter, which is also part of a building they rent out. I live in another one of the buildings owned by RH and EH Carpenter, so this review is about their business and not the physical unit on Wilson St. In the ~3 years I’ve lived in Madison, I have never felt a need to move. While this is mostly because the location is convenient for me, a large part has to do with the owner, Jim, and my building manager, Bob, who have always been very professional and responsive. I enjoy renting from them. While my building is somewhat dated, it is well maintained. I appreciate that every quarter they have standing appointments with a pest control agency that examines and takes preventative measures against infestations in each unit. In the time I’ve lived here though, I’ve never had a problem. Their online presence is basically nonexistent — it’s either paper, phone, or face to face for everything — but the building manager responds within a day or so to issues as trivial as a broken sink plug or a loose lighting connection. I’ve also had a good experience just dropping by their office on weekdays between 9am and 4pm, or sliding notes under their office door. Having grown up in the digital age, it has been surprisingly comforting having to make things work without the Internet as an interface. Given that this is the only company I’ve rented from since moving to Madison, I feel lucky I got it right on the first try.
