I was expecting more from this chain! I got a matcha tea and it was alright. The bubbles were pretty good, but the tea tasted kind of granular to me. Also, there’s not much you can do to add flavors to drinks. I asked if they could add coconut flavor to my drink and the answer was a flat out no. What you see is what you get on the menu! That being said, bubble tea is rare in Madison so you have to take what you can get.

PROS: One of the only places to get decent bubble tea in Madison CONS: Does not live up to expectations Spoiled by the plethora of amazing bubble tea from both Houston and the Bay Area, I find myself unimpressed with Kung Fu Tea. Though I requested the minimum amount of sugar without going completely unsweetened, the drinks were still too sweet for my tastes. The menu is also quite limited. There is some hope and potential for improvement.

Best bubble tea in Madison hands down. Love the customization level of the drinks. The milk teas are much tastier than the other teas though. Also, the service can be very slow, and you can see that the staff is standing around chatting instead of making drinks. Do not go here if you are in a hurry. Also, it is expensive but much better tasting than Steepery.

After going through other tea places here at this spot, kung fu tea arrives! It’s awesome! Right in town and super near campus. Kung fu tea is a franchise tea house and this is their first outlet in Madison(and Wisconsin too). It’s one of my favorite bubble tea places around. Getting one of their best sellers is always a safe bet. Classic milk tea, taro versions, oreo milk tea are good options. Their bubbles are cooked through and chewy. I would also recommend their herbal jelly(goes really well with oolong milk tea) and pudding. For something special I also recommend their yoghurt orange, or yoghurt anything really. They squeeze in fresh fruit juice into the yoghurt, does it get any better than that? I remember once I was kind of under the weather when I visited and that made me feel better. Side note: those yoghurt varieties don’t come cheap, wished it could be cheaper so I feel less bad having it more often. With the opening of kung fu tea, the tea bar just opposite is going to have some real competition…

So many choices. So many mysterious options. As a somewhat novice to bubble tea, there are a LOT of options. Fortunately the menu was highlighted with some of customers’ favorites, so I chose the Wow Milk. Wow Milk, from what I can tell, is a non dairy sweetened beverage with slurpable bubbles and red beans. Each beverage has customization options such as ice, toppings, sweetener, and jelly additions. Free wifi and a few board games are offered as well. I’ll swing by another time –I’m ready to try another mystery item!

Love love love! This place never disappoints! I usually get the winter melon milk tea with bubbles or chai milk tea with bubbles if I need more caffeine. As a person who usually gets bubble tea from China town in San Francisco, I must say this place matches up to the authenticity of the China town bubble tea. You can truly taste the flavor of the tea itself and the added flavor does not drown out the flavor of the actual tea – it adds to it and creates a beautiful blend. It makes me feel fresh and awake – unlike the bubble tea at Sencha(which has a lot of artificial flavors and unnecessary amount of sugar). The bubbles are the best part– they are sweetly flavored and cooked to a perfection. The atmosphere there is also fun – they have a collection of boardgames which is perfect for a nice relaxed break from studying.

I love coming to Kung fu tea, whether it’s just to stop and get a drink, or sit and hang out with a friend. They have games(cards, board games, jenga, etc) so you’re never bored/board(haha puns). Anyways, I really like their drinks. They’re different, creative, and aren’t just watered down tea. The best part is that their bubbles actually have flavor. I don’t usually get bubbles because they end up being lame and boring chewy balls of dough but Kung fu tea knows how to make them! I wish they had a rewards program, but that’s no deal breaker, seeing as I keep going back haha. Oh their macarons are also pretty good! Nice, soft, and chewy all for a reasonable $ 1.

Delicious and a taste of going back bubble tea in Mad Town. I have tasted Kungfu Tea in New York, but only recently here after moving to Madison. Delicious bubble tea in this new branch too! Speaking from a point of view of a Chinese growing up in Hong Kong. Am so happy they serve my favorites(yoghurty drink, or anything with grass jelly). taste of going back and went back for more already within a week! A nice and quiet branch, always seem to have empty spots to sit down. I can see a good hanging out spot.

Yayy it makes me so happy to be able to customize the sugar level in my drink! Wish it was possible to do that with everything on their menu(the Wow milks can’t be adjusted), but there are enough great options with that available. You can also ask for little or no ice, and their toppings are pretty cool. So far, I’ve tried the matcha red bean shake(awesome), matcha shake without red beans(not on the menu but they’ll do it for you), taro green milk tea, and taro milk tea. All of them have been tasty! I usually get a double order of bubbles because I can’t get enough of them. And yes, those are soaked in a syrup, so they have some sugar. I wouldn’t recommend getting bubbles with the red bean drinks, because their textures contrast in a weird way. But do as you please! I’ve never been to a single place this many times in one week…

Authentic and delicious bubble tea has finally arrived in Madison!!! Not only can I add different toppings(like bubbles and pudding) to any beverage, I also get to customize the sugar and ice level. It is always a pleasure to visit Kungfu Tea and it gets even better with the many board(and card) games available to play at the shop. The staff members are also friendly and helpful. The only problem I have with this place is that they have too many options lol ;) Favorite beverages: YOGURTGREENTEA with herbal jelly, yogurt grapefruit, matcha red bean slush, coffee milk tea, taro milk tea and oreo milk tea.

KungFu Tea might have the best bubble tea options in Madison. I’ve stopped by twice this past week and both bubble teas were tasty. I got a taro milk tea with pearls and a winter melon milk green tea with pearls, and both did not disappoint. I’m excited they opened and I expect to come back often as I work a block away!

Coconut Milk Tea is where it’s at. I was skeptical and negative nelly in my view of KungFu when I saw that it was opening just down the street from the beloved Steepery Tea Bar. The competition scared me, but oh how the tables have turned. Prior to their recent opening in Madison, I had tried the KungFu location back in Evanston and was not overly impressed. However, since it’s arrival to State Street, I’m thoroughly enjoying the shop. What’s best about KungFu and what sets it apart from Steepery is that their menu gives you the option to customize the sweetness of your drink, as well as the amount of ice. My complaint with bubble tea is the mystery behind the drink’s sugar content, and KungFu eradicates this fear by allowing you to opt for little sugar, less sugar, half sugar, lite sugar, etc. I can’t get enough of all things coconut these days, so I’ve ordered the coconut milk tea with little sugar and less ice a few times and that is my drink. Watch out wallet because KungFu tea is becoming a new bestie.

Went to the one in Chicago Chinatown. Didn’t expect they would open one in Madison. Same flavor, red bean is a must try! One complaint though, the drinks are WAY too sweet! Have to order them half sweetened. I would also expect them to have more flavors too. If you like to try different flavors, steepery is probably a better place.

This place is cool and they seem like they have a lot to offer! I got the wow milk red bean tea and it was a little too much for me… I thought the beans were for a flavor, so I wasn’t expecting to slurp up full beans with my bubbles. I really didn’t like the texture, so I didn’t like my drink. My friends’ Oreo tea was yummy though! I’ll be back to try a fruitier or more simple on next time!

Woot, Woot another milk tea place in town. Kungfu Tea, the name alone reminds me of some Chinese movies that I often watched when I was a kid. Passing by this place several times, I was unsure if I wanted to try it right away. In my dumbest guess and being very ignorant, I thought the old sub house was also selling some teas. Silly me. But today, on one of the warm and sunny days in Madison, I was thinking of having some bubble tea and Kungfu tea came to my mind. I Unilocaled it out and read some reviews of other Unilocalers. From their reviews, I learned that this place is quite legit so I gave it a try. I bought a red bean tea(literally with some red beans in it and bubbles, you can actually choose whether you have to have it with tapioca or bubbles, red bean and others), an oreo milk and a taro one. I loved the read bean tea — - love the taste and love the red beans as well. What a brilliant idea! Thank you! but the oreo milk tea is just okay. The taro milk tea is another goodie. Overall, I know I will come back to this place again especially in this sunny weather. Thank you, Kungfu tea! Hiyaaaa, ciyattt, ciyaaaaaat(that’s the sound that I associated with Kungfu when I grew up watching the Kungfu movies!)

DELICIOUS bubble tea in a modern, attractive store! The strawberry lemon green tea was amazing. Sweet but complimented with the lemon. Great stop for a refreshing drink on state street.
