Having worked there for over 20 years, I can safely say, «Yes, there’s a lot to improve on.» I am sad to say that I did little to improve it while I was there. I can honestly give this business five stars because of the staff, from the publisher to the reporters to the bookkeepers to the graphic artists to the circulation manager to the sales reps. All of them work hard, putting out two newspapers a week and very rarely have a chance to breathe. I know many times the public gets upset at the «If it bleeds, it leads» approach to journalism and everyone has that right. Many times, I cringed myself but I also saw the good things we did. We recognized students for their achievements and went to schools throughout the county, covering functions. We published news about upcoming fundraisers for free. We did it because we love Madison County and its people. The staff is still doing that today.
