Owned and operated by a very sweet Japanese woman. It’s the best Japanese food you will find for miles and miles. Service is always good and the food is always fresh and tasty.

Edo is the most authentic Japanese food you will find in Huntsville. Also, not run by Filipino /South Asian’s(as if that really mattered anyway) it is owned and operated by a very kind Japanese woman, Kyo, who has been a friend of my family since I was a child. I’m not sure where this rumor started, there’s a couple Filipino servers and one of the sushi chefs is not Japanese. Since coming back from japan this restaurant is the only place I trust for sushi and authentic Japanese cuisine. Try the salmon skin hand roll, udon is lovely as well.

One word describes my experience here. Meh. Nothing was bad, but nothing was good either. I had sake nigiri The salmon was not fresh, not turned either, but definitely not fresh and was cut way too large. The saba nigiri was overly pickled. The spider roll’s batter left something to be desired. The sushi rice was overcooked and not seasoned very well, if at all. The service was OK.

Very good sushi and at a great price(for this area)! The atmosphere is quite casual and the place is almost always filled with business people. The service can be a bit slow, so don’t come if you are in a rush, come to sit and enjoy and talk while eating sushi! The fish is very fresh and the portion size is good too. The special roll selection is not as intense or fanciful as I Love Sushi(near Madison Hospital) but they are still quite good. The rice was very sticky(but we like that!) and the dessert menu is mostly prepacked frozen cakes, but they are still good. We will definitely be back

I’m writing this review because I hate getting ripped off and I’m trying to do you a favor. If you’re looking for good Japanese food please avoid Edo. Miso soup was extremely bland. Edamame came soft and very salty. Chirashi bowl was ok, not bad but not good either. Tempura was the lowlight. Heavy caked on batter. Also seemed like they used veggie scraps and created a tempura cake. Save your hard earned money!

I’m usually here for lunch, and will get the lunch box(which is $ 7 or $ 8?). The lunch box is value for money, but taste is just okay. I have had better(and more authentic) Japanese food where I’m from. Since I haven’t tried the sushi here and I haven’t been to many Japanese restaurants in Madison/Huntsville, I can’t compare Edo to other restaurants. The lady boss here is really nice and because of that, I will support this place!

Sushi was INCREDIBLE! As a sushi snob, I am fairly particular but this place does it right! California roll, Madison roll, and crunchy shrimp roll are all phenomenal! Pricing is good as well.

Great little sushi bar/restaurant. Always extremely friendly with excellent service. I love the quality of their sushi and have never been disappointed. The special rolls(on special!) are excellent. Give it a shot. You won’t be disappointed!

Good Japanese sushi, busy for lunch, good service. Ordered the chicken bowl(teriyaki sauce, chicken, rice in a bowl big enough for two), avocado sushi, and chicken tempura for $ 10.25. I thought the food tasted fresh, good, and was served quickly. My table(table of 6) had all their orders correct and everyone was pleased with their food. Everyone’s drinks were filled regularly and we were there at noon on a Thursday. I am a big sushi fan, but I felt like some of the sushi was overly priced. A Cali roll was near $ 4.25 or so, but I’m certain I can get that elsewhere for just as fresh for cheaper. Overall though, my meal was very filling(split my whole meal between me and someone else) and plenty of people at the table took items home. Plenty of items on the menu were affordable. Service was good and attentive, especially for the lunch rush.

Sushi was quite fresh and service at the sushi bar was quick, if not gracious. I had the spicy crunchy tuna roll, a piece of nigiri and a crunchy shrimp roll. The first two were excellent. In hindsight I should have not gotten the shrimp as it was bland in comparison, but still good.

I’d say Edo is the best Japanese restaurant in Huntsville at this point in time. I dined there tonight, The Miso was hot and delicious, the rice perfect, and I received a enormous servingof Tempura shrimp. Just shrimp; I wish I’d ordered a mixed tempura plate. Service was excellent. This was my 2nd trip to Edo, first was for lunch, and I wasn’t disappointed either time. I had chicken teriyaki for lunch. Having lived in Japan, I’m often disappointed in Japanese restaurants here. Edo fills the bill. Apparently a LOT of folks thinks so, it’s usually pretty busy.

Our party of seven went to Edo last night to celebrate a birthday. Along with lots of other dishes, we ordered the large sushi boat. It was huge and contained several different types of sushi and sashimi. Coming from Oakland, CA, and being of Japanese descent, I was suprised at the quality of the fish. It was good, not excellent, but better than I expected. Our server Allison was great and helped us with the birthday cake we brought in. We will be back the next time we are in the area.

Great food, great service! It’s my go-to Sushi place & everyone I bring with, just loves the place — the tempura dishes are crispy & tasty, both the nigiri & sushi well made, fresh ingredients & very tasty! Prices are excellent & I’ll definitely be back!

Overall a great experience! My co-worker and I were able to beat the lunch rush by getting there before 1130. I highly recommend that if it’s your first time coming to Edo’s that you should do the same. The Nigiri is awesome and the rolls– though pricey– are very good. The staff was very kind and quick to refill drinks. Didn’t wait long at all for the food to get to the table either. I hope that every one gets to experience Edo’s this way!

This review is just on the sushi bar. Quiet weeknight I was tired and hungry from a long day of business travel. Pulled up a seat at the sushi bar. Service was promp and attentive. Sushi wasn’t the best I’ve ever had but it was solid. Standard rolls at great prices. Left really happy with a belly full of good food.

In a craving for Japanese food in Huntsville/Madison, I turned to Unilocal. After careful reading of many reviews, I decided to give Edo a try. I was very pleased! The décor is traditional, the wood is light and beautiful. Please see their website for the photos. Yes, they are using diner tables and disposable chopsticks for their booths/chairs-and-tables section. If you want a taste of traditional Japanese food, in addition to wonderful specialty rolls, do you care? No, you should not! (Note: we ordered sushi rolls with more than one ingredient, and received a sauce paired perfectly on the spider roll, a delicately-crafted«Alaskan Pipeline» roll, and a bulging«Huntsville» roll. If these were served in any major city, in a casual dining setting, they’d still be twice the price. A great deal.) While we only ordered sushi and sake(the masu cup) for dinner, we noticed the vast array of udon, sukiyaki, cold soba/noodles and combination boxes. What a pleasant surprise! Having lived in many large, metropolitan cities, we knew not to expect too wide a variety in a smaller town. The owner, Kiyo, has done a marvelous job, and was kind enough to check on us in the course of our meal, discreetly making sure that I had enough tea, and making some lighthearted jokes. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. She was very friendly, and the food came out very quickly – in under 10 minutes, on a Saturday night. She was very attentive when we needed her, and made sure our table was clean and tidy so we could fully enjoy our dessert and tea. We will most certainly be calling this wonderful restaurant our regular spot for Japanese food in the Madison/Huntsville area. If my Japanese grandmother came to visit, we would probably bring her, too.

Well, we gave it a shot and I was so disappointed with just about everything — the depressing, outdated atmosphere, the tasteless sushi rolls with a not-so-fresh lingering taste, but! there was one good thing — the gyoza was pretty decent. Sadly, we won’t be back.

I’ve never been a fan of the service, but this has been one of my top choices for Japanese restaurants in the Huntsville/Madison area for years. Many years. I love the food. Even when I feel adventurous and try something new, I am always pleasantly surprised.

Wow. After reading some of these two star ratings that brought the overall rating for this restaurant down, I felt compelled to write a review of my own. 1) Some reviewers think that you can only get good sushi if the restaurant is run by Japanese people. If that’s your take on sushi, go to Japan. 2) Just as another reviewer stated, I too have basic choices that I order at every sushi restaurant to rate how good/fresh their sushi is. But if your foundation for judgment is based on a menu item that is supposed to be «a true test of a sushi chef’s skill» all because you heard it from someone or read it somewhere on the internet, then all I can tell you is,(after I’m done rolling my eyes). go to Japan. 3) As far as the prices are concerned, I’m not sure what«normal prices» are to some, but I am aware of the usual price range of sushi. Overall, the menu is priced on the lower end when it comes to sushi restaurant pricing. The only thing that didn’t fit with the rest of the menu were the nigiri prices. They seemed a bit towards the mid-range of «sushi pricing» while the rest of the menu(such as the rolls) was on the lower end. But once our order came out, we quickly realized how large the nigiri pieces were cut and formed. They weren’t enormous but these were by far the largest nigiri pieces we’ve ever had at any sushi restaurant, so this certainly made the pricing fit. So now to the review. I don’t believe that my rating system is the best or anything, nor do I consider myself a sushi snob. But when I go out for sushi, I usually go for sake, saba, escolar, toro and maybe a roll or two, and base the majority of my experience on those pieces. In this case my wife and I were only able to order sake and saba because they didn’t have the other two. We also ordered hamachi, an Alabama roll, Madison roll and a Huntsville roll. All of the nigiri pieces were cut large. The sake and saba were to our liking. My only gripe was with the hamachi. It didn’t look or taste very fresh. We are definitely a big fan of the Alabama roll. The Madison and Huntsville rolls are almost identical and taste very similar, but both tasted good. The alcohol is decently priced. You can get Bud Light on draft for $ 1.99. Or you can get a bottle of your favorite Japanese beer or a glass of their house wine for $ 3.99. So overall, the food served here is better than what most of these reviewers make it seem. Pricing and quality are better than acceptable. Also, please keep in mind that we are in HUNTSVILLE, AL. Not Japan. Not New York. Not San Francisco. Not Houston. My wife and I just moved to HSV about 5 months ago and the first thing that we noticed was that the food and restaurant choices around here are abysmal. So for us,(coming from a larger city with endless restaurants) Edo’s take on sushi was a pleasant surprise and we will definitely return. Kudos to Edo.(and their South-East Asians running it)

… not so great. I was actually surprised to see Filippinos/South East Asians running this restaurant. Being that I am baised to going to sushi places only run by Koreans or Japanese(because raw fish consumption a la sushi/sashimi is in their cuisine, they are experts kind of), I was a bit thrown-off, but I wanted to give it a chance. We sat at the sushi bar(best place in any sushi place!) and waited for our server to come. + star — Service is great. Attentive and nice. Sushi chef made an excpetion for me. + star lots of deals going on with an okay — typically Japanese décor. and. .that’s it. I am a huge fan of being able to order Sashimi by the pieces — this place does NOT let it happen. Each sashimi order is a combo of fishes — which to me is an indicator that you are being cheap and want to have your fish being purchased evenly across the board instead of letting your customers opt for the one they want. *CAVEAT* it is completely ANOTHER thing to have an assorted sashimi/sushi item on the menu and have the chef pick or make recommendations because he knows what fish is the best. I had to ask for a salmon sashimi ONLY plate. Thankfully they accomodated. The fish was just OKAY. .It was NOTCUT like it should be(i.e., on the perfect angle against the muscle grain so it melts in your mouth almost). — and probably because sushi chefs study for YEARS and the 2 guys behind the counter probably missed that special training(as exemplified by their food) The tempura was boring and not a super thin cripsy batter … oh well. The 5 mini pieces of fried bell pepper and a carrot was kind of … boring. where was teh Japanese eggplant, sweet potato and broccoli? This was was bad. I really wished the food matched the hype. It was one of the worst Japanese I’ve had.
