Excellent historic site to tour with the family. If your children have become bored with visiting locations of historic interest, I would suggest Dr. Hutchings’ office. The medical instruments and the GENUINE skeleton in the exam room is enough to intrigue anyone.

Run by «Historic Madison, Inc.» The Hutchings Office is a mini-museum dedicated to one of the first doctors in Indiana. The museum was his home, office, and even served as a hospital with a patient’s room upstairs. A lot of the objects that he used in his workings(antique crutches, journals, even old medicines) are displayed for you to look at. You are led around the first floor by an elderly guide, and then she lets you go upstairs on your own, because her knees can’t handle climbing the VERY steep stairs. To add a bit of humor to the museum, and to go along with the cliché that everyone has a skeleton in their closet, their is a tall closet in what would have been Hutchings’ exam room that contains a real skeleton of a man who was killed in an accident with a train that left him with half a face. The admission price is $ 3, which goes to help preserve the building and its contents, and you can expect to spend around 30 minutes there.
