I am not one to really write reviews about any place, but in this instance, this practice has been so ridiculous and unethical that I feel it behooves me to say something. After all the bull shit I’ve been through, I obviously would NOT recommend this place and will not be going back for any future eye care. Last spring, I went in for a normal yearly office visit. Dr. Shapiro informed me that since my vision is so poor, that it’s recommended I get dilated once a year at my office visits. Since I had refused the last time, she was recommending it for this office visit. I told her I could not that day because of work commitments, which was always the reason why I couldn’t, and she asked me to schedule a «quick 15 minute dilation appointment» for a time that worked for me. I was a-ok with that and did as told. Lo’ and behold, several months later I get a $ 180 bill for an entire second full exam… obviously not something my insurance covers. I called the 3rd party billing agency and wrote them a formal request that the«full eye exam» be re-coded, as it most certainly was not a full eye exam and easily could have been wrapped up into one big office visit if I had been able to be dilated the initial visit. No response from them or Anderson and Shapiro… I just get the bill re-sent to me. I call the billing agency and they tell me to take it up with Anderson and Shapiro. After calling several times and always getting told the Office Admin was unavailable and to leave a voicemail, I finally got a call back today after about 4 – 5 months. Apparently Dr. Shapiro is adamant that the 15 minute dilation I had done gets billed as a full eye exam but she also refuses to speak to me directly about it. Why didn’t she inform me during the first office visit how this was going to be billed? When I asked this same question to the woman I spoke with today, she said«I always assume that follow-up appointments will be billed accordingly». Well… ya, if it is actually a follow-up appointment. This was not a follow-up appointment. This was a 10 minute procedure that she wanted to do during my initial visit but couldn’t. I think any patient would assume that if the dilation is covered under the yearly office visit, that if you come in just to get dilated after the otherwise full eye exam, that you’re not going to get billed for a whole second exam. She obviously knew my insurance wasn’t going to cover a second«full exam» in the span of two weeks and that if presented with the information I now have, I would have wanted to reschedule the whole appointment to a day when I could get dilated or I would have just gotten dilated that day and done my best at work. This place knowingly withholds information like that to squeeze money out of insurance companies and patients alike. This is super shady, unethical billing. Again, I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Dr Shapiro just removed both my cataracts. I am only 53 and had let it progress for 2 years before finding this doctor. I was very impressed with the staff, nurses at Nova Med Surgery also. I cannot praise this doctor enough he went above and beyond to accommodate me in every way. I would recommend Dr. Shapiro to anyone thinking about and needing cataract surgery. No pain, fast recovery. I could see clearly the very next day! Thank you again Anderson and Shapiro! Sonia Taylor

Dr C.J. Anderson was my opthamologist for years. He performed lasik surgery on my eyes back in 2001 and today my vision is still 20⁄20. Today, Dr. Nicole Anderson is now my opthamologist of choice for my eye health. The staff at Anderson and Shapiro Eye Care treat their patients with the utmost respect and professionalism I come to appreciate. I travel from Chicago, IL to Madison, WI for my appointments. I highly recommend Anderson and Shapiro Eye Care to anybody who is in search for a qualified opthamologist. You won’t be disappointed. — Chris S.
