Maria’s Taco Shop

I ordered their taco salad (carne asada as my choice of meat), and wow. It was so amazingly good! The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the taco shell tasted amazing, and all the fixings were great. I was very impressed and happy with my dinner !

First time trying this place and like all the other Mexican food places in Madera, it was ok. The dirt dropping from the ventilation ducts in ceiling was a real turn off, the food was typical nothing to brag about I had the asada burrito and it kinda tasted like fish.
not sure I’ll be coming back here but it was worth a try.

So yeah. Burritos are life. They save lives and I don’t know why you are sitting there on your phone or computer without going to get a burrito from Maria’s taco shop.
While burritos do save lives… tacos on the other hand… tacos are life. Luckily Maria’s has both tacos and burritos… AND! Enchiladas.
Go here and eat something delicious. Just… goooo

My first visit to Marias was today. I ordered take out for the fam. 8 burritos n 1 LG Menudo. Details: Looked like a 2 man crew (possibly the owner\couple team), Front end service (female)was not very personable although busy. Was not. seeinge as a patron more like an just an order. Cooker (male)was running solo, Food: was not good, but was the only shop open so. Tortillas wraps were way under cooked order was not correct (once I got hm), Menudo was not hot nor fresh (had to heat up) once at hm in the kitchen. Accommodations: no where to sit while waiting for my order, advised cook I was going to have a seat outside. As I waited I thought they would be kind enough to let me know my order was ready (NO). I had to check as I went bk inside My order was on the counter (it could of been some one elses) and as I was leaving I said OK I’m going now not a word and walked out. 2 star is the best they get…

I had big hopes for this place as my mom used to eat here all the time and liked it. While visiting my parents, I had a hankering for Mexican food so we went to Maria’s. I ordered 6 rolled tacos (you can choose chicken/​beef or a mix of either… is topped with guacamole, lettuce, cheese and tomato) and for 6.99 it comes with a free soda. I also ordered French fries extra crispy (which were not at all) and a bean burrito double wrapped. I am used to LA prices and by no means was this place cheap. The «guacamole» that they use to top the rolled tacos, was a slimy green concoction. Very disappointing, Furthermore, the meat was not of good quality and the temperature was luke warm. The burrito was just OK. the tortillas tasted as if they were still raw. Sadly, Taco Bell is a better option for quality and cost. I won’t be going back.

I came with low expectations but then tacos and spices were an instant hit. This is a gem in the middle of Madera. A diamond in the rough. I want to come back next year!

Came for engineering competition from SoCal. Had the rolled taco combo with rice. Everything was fast and really delicious. Their salsas were incredible, just the right amount of spiciness, especially the salsa verde. Rolled beef tacos were really simple but really good. Glad i went!

This place is a must have any time my husband and I pass through or are in Madera. We love the food, especially their bean burritos and green salsa, and the staff. I haven’t been able to find a place that compares. I highly recommend.

I strictly come for the carne asada burrito. It is always great and hot when served. It is flavorful and its packed with meat. No fluff. I will continue to come back and eat here.

This place now gets a bad review from me and my sister. Today 7÷28÷14 my sister had placed an order over the phone. We decided to pump gas first n they called my sister about her order. She said we were heading there after pumping gas. By the time we got there, they had thrown her order away. Yea great job guys that wasn’t very professional. Never again. Never heard of someone throwing away food like that especially when we said we’re going to be there!

Small food joint, like something straight out of the 70s or 80s. The food is relatively inexpensive and the food taste good. Can’t go wrong here.

The breakfast burritos are great. They are huge, and have great flavor. Also, although it’s not on the menu, they will add potatoes to the breakfast burrito if you ask. Their red salsa is very good as well. My husband’s favorite are the taquitos (rolled tacos) that come smothered in guacamole, sour cream & cheese. This place does not have the nicest building/​interior, but the food is solid.

Man, I really want to go more stars, especially because I have been to the locations in Fresno and Merced and was impressed. I went to this one years ago and thought it was good, but today was very mediocre.
I got a small carne asda taco and chips and salsa. Very small and somewhat dry taco. The chips were good and the salsa as well. I love cilantro so having that available was nice.
Fair price ($ 5 for lunch and soda) but just was not what I remembered.

Conveniently located, on Gateway Drive, as you drive through town. The staff is friendly, attentive and kind. The food is a great value for the price.

It was a dire emergency.
My bladder was about to pop. I sought salvation at the gas station, but after paying for a fill up, I was informed that there was NO BATHROOM THERE (yeah right). So we finished up and went across the street to Maria’s, and I was relieved that the outdoor restroom was unlocked. Sure, there was no TP, but that’s a small price to pay for such sweet relief. Since I just can’t in good conscious pee and run (especially since a nice employee greeted me out back as I made my mad dash inside), my husband went inside to make a purchase. He emerged with a plate of 3 soft rolled tacos: carnitas, chicken, and pig tongue (because that’s just how roll. Pun intended). My husband felt there was too much tortilla for the filling, but I’m a carb-​lover, so I thought it was a good balance. Of the 3, the carnitas were the best, but I wasn’t overly impressed. One issue I had was that the 2 things on this Earth I don’t like in food are raw onions and cilantro, and there were heavy doses of both.
So I wouldn’t elect to eat here again, but because of the friendly service and being there in my time on need, I bumped it up a star.

this place is not bad i’ve been here before a bunch of times and every time it good i always get the crunchy tacos and fresh it is everytime not bad for fast food on the go.

this place gets 4 starts in my book because when i attended beauty school next door it kept me fed… plus I’m going to review it simply for what it is a divey rolled taco place. they’ve got breakfast items and other typical fare like tacos, burritos, menudo, id say skip all of that and get yourself some tasty rolled tacos a soft drink w/​«crushed ice» (love that stuff!) and be on your way.

When I’m in town visiting my parents I always creep into Maria’s Taco Shop before I get on the road. Order the 10 taquitos and a jaimaica! I’ve honestly never tasted anything else at Maria’s but the taquitos are off the hook. They pile guacamole, cheese and sour cream on top. Wow!!!

This could be a good place, but the tortillas were killing me. We ordered a breakfast burrito and a Chorizo one. It was just «ok». The only highlight is that they serve menudo everyday. YAY!
The salsa was the only good thing going.

A few years back, we stopped by here lured by a taco sale prominently advertised on their window. I went in to order and they told me they were out of tacos. .. what the ???
