I went fishing with Captain Kellen and a friends dad in March while on vacation down in Madeira Beach and had an awesome time.
We started out jigging off the bottom which resulted in constantly catching a different type of fish (Amberjack, Snapper, Grouper, some type of Pufferfish) from about 8 inches to 20 inches for about an hour and a half. Being from Minnesota it was rather neat to see all these different types of fish that I’ve never saw before. Upon completing our jigging we decided to go trolling for King Mackerel (think that’s what they were called). Fishing for King Mackerel is the reason that I will keep coming back. The way this fish strikes your bait in the water is just amazing. We saw them fly through the air upon missing the bait and even fly through the air when they were on our line (it was something to see).
That day we caught our limit on pretty much anything we wanted to keep. At the end of the trip all of our fish were cleaned and bagged and Kellen even suggested a few different ways to prepare them as we never cooked these types of fish before. With his suggestions I have to say that the King Mackerel was the best fish I have ever had. Some of my friends that don’t eat fish due to the «fishy taste» said they couldn’t even taste fish.
He was very knowledgeable and willing to share information on what we were doing and why we were doing it. Overall it was a great trip and I hope to be back next year with him as Captain.
