Das Awscht Fescht is PA Dutch for the August Festival, or as most in the Lehigh Valley know it as a serious antique car show. If you are an auto enthusiast this is a must see. Located all around the grounds of the Macungie Memorial Park(just off the center of Main Street, on Route 100). This show has been taking place for decades and is one of the main fundraising events to help maintain the park. The show is a 3 day event of antique cars that must have original paint and parts in order to compete. If you want to see every possible car, then all 3 days are a must. They have 2 large tented areas, as well as 3 – 4 pavilions of hand crafted items for sale. A flea market of auto parts, accessories, care products and etc. are located near the back gate(little league baseball field areas). Kids events are scheduled for the playground area. Live bands perform in the bandshell. All kinds of festival food can be found in the main concession stand or at various trailers and stands throughout. There is an entrance ticket fee, but keep in mind this is to help keep the park maintained without asking for a dime of tax dollars. Don’t forget to buy your annual Das Awscht Fescht t-shirt, usually printed with the selected«car of the year». I find it quite enjoyable and worth an annual visit.
