This is hands down the best Mexican in town. Great staff management and bartender! They always accommodate our group be it large or small. Drinks are nice and potent. At lunch service is on point! The update that was done has just made it that much nicer. This is our supper club spot. Love Benny and the crew

Ordered to go. Food was good, hot and spicy! Just the way we like it. Ordered the Texas fajitas nachos and quesadilla.

One of the better Mexican places in Macon. Nothing different or special than your typical Tex/Mex places but always consistent with quality, service, etc. I almost always get the huevo rancheroes and I’m never disappointed.

Best Mexican place in Macon! Don’t try to compare it to your favorite street food you tried that one time while you were vacationing in Mexico or in a Mexican neighborhood in a large city. El Sombrero isn’t that. It is, however, good. Everyone in our group of seven seemed to enjoy their food when we stopped in for lunch this weekend. There were a couple who ordered fajitas, tacos and we all devoured the chips and salsa quicker than we were asked if we wanted another basket. If drinks are on your radar, they have a pretty extensive list of margaritas and other cocktails. The Paloma Blanca was my choice on a sunny January afternoon. Think of a lighter more refreshing version of a margarita, made with Fresca and tequila. It’s a quieter fiesta with just as much fun! I had the tacos al pastor: adobo marinated pork, pineapple, caramelized onions, bacon. Ask for some cilantro on the side to give it a more authentic taste. Unless you’re one of the people that cilantro tastes like soap, then you’d better skip it. Our waiter was friendly and quick through most of our meal until it came time to get our check when he kind of disappeared. I’ll chalk it up as a fluke or maybe the separate checks for a larger party, since otherwise he was a great señor.

This place is the best !! I always get the enchilada rancheras. 4 delicious(cheese, bean, beef, chicken) enchiladas topped with lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and a side of rice and beans for 7.95? Yes please ! Places usually charge you extra for the guac. AND most other place’s entrees don’t come with beans and rice and cost you extra. Their salsa and chips are pretty much better than any other Mexican restaurant I’ve been to. 5 stars!

So the food here is great, my favorite meal being the taco al pastor. I had never had taco al pastor before coming to El Sombrero, but it is now one of my favorite Mexican dishes. My only complaint would be one night, a few of my friends and I arrived at El Sombrero and we were told there would be about a 15 minute wait. After 20 minutes, we starting to get a hungry so I went to ask about our wait. I overheard the host talking to a waiter about how the grill was broken so they weren’t seating people. The host continued to tell people that the wait would be 15 minutes, but never mentioned that the grill was broken and they were not sure when it would be fixed. We left after 30 minute of waiting.

Great Salsa! I know that’s the free part of the meal, but it is awesome. Their food is good as well!

This is a very popular Mexican restaurant in the North Macon area, and it’s easy to see why. The Mexican food(at least what I’ve had) is the best in Macon. I’m a big fan of the«original» chimichanga, which offers up two chimis and beans. They’ll give you rice and beans if you ask. Good, fresh ingredients with the salad on the top is just fantastic. There are many flavors of margarita, and this brand — whatever it is – is my favorite. The atmosphere is always very welcoming, and because it’s so busy it’s loud. But there’s plenty of room for large groups, and they serve plenty of them — youth sports teams, for example — either in the main dining room or in a large adjacent room. There is another El Sombrero near downtown Macon and, while it may be run by the same family, I’ve found that it isn’t quite as good as this one. My only reason for not giving this 5 stars is because I so seldom have anything other than the chimichanga that I can’t judge the other food. But I can judge the crowds and others I’ve talked to, and they all agree that for the food at the atmosphere, this Mexican place is hard to beat.

Real Mexicans serving good food. Salsa is one of the best in town. Tacos de Asada is pretty good. Good service fair prices and their beers have little ice crystals in them. That alone makes it worth the trip. They do need to figure out that you can’t wrap a hard shell taco in aluminum foil for to go orders. They get soggy and the bottom falls out. Great place highly recommend it.

I’m giving them a four star because I’ve had better Mexican food when I lived in Texas. But, by a landslide this is the best Mexican food in the Macon area. I attended the restaurant for a girls night out a couple weeks ago. Our table was waiting on us and the waiter was very sweet & attentive. I enjoyed the guacamole, Carne Asada Tacos de Asada and a strawberry daiquiri. The food was prepared properly and came out fresh. My only complaints are that the the tacos don’t come with the usual side of rice and beans like most restaurants. Also, the tacos were overpriced at over $ 7 for a plate of three tacos. But, in my option and from prior experiences in Texas most items on the menu looked overpriced. I think if your looking for a good Mexican restaurant and don’t mind the prices then you’d enjoy El Sombrero.

Excellent food. Excellent service. Maybe it was because we ordered four meals, but they had no problems giving us extra chips and salsa. We all enjoyed it. I had my usual«original chimichanga» with chicken. It came with beans, guacamole, lettuce, and tomato. It was great. My friend had some combination meal. It was good, but too much, so he took some home. All four of us enjoyed our meals.

It was good!!! I don’t like this little rule they have about the free chips and salsa. You have to order a full meal on the menu and you only get a basket. Its not a BIG deal but you can just go to any other mexican place and not have to worry about it. I don’t like that they don’t have an ala cart menu. I always like to order something small so I can fill up on cheese dip. My hubby and I ended up splitting the Texas Fajitas and asked for no chicken. Well they did not add more meat or shrimp. They gave us 3 pieces of shrimp and 4 pieces of beef. It was good and the veggies were good. But for the amount vs the price it was not my fav. They don’t have a patio either. I prefer La Parilla. I try to support the local businesses and they deserve it more than chains do but I just was not impressed.

The best Mexican restaurant in Macon! I love to eat here. Favorite is Pollo Ala Mexicana, a great combination of flavor and spice. Their Black bean and Chorizo dip is amazing! Great as an appetizer! The waiters and management are all friendly and very accommodating! They always make sure I have a great experience! Highly recommend!

Best Mexican restaurant around! Hands down. No clue where one star reviews come from but it’s simple to ask your server to correct any problems you may have or even management. They have amazing chicken and steak entrees and salads that are phenomenal. Chunky guacamole is awesome as well. They have plenty of items on their menu that are healthy minded as well. A lot of our athletes eat here post training. Highly recommended

Our waitress was so rude. When we first got there, me and my friend asked for an extra salsa because we don’t like to share same bowl… sanitary reasons. The waitress told us we could only have one and that any additional salsa she would have to charge for. She also made a snide comment saying«you’ll eat all that salsa by yourself?» Really? You took a job as a SERVER so serve instead of being a jerk! Also, the chips were stale. It was prime hour lunch time too! You would think they would have fresh chips.

I have no clue how this place got good reviews. My fiancée told me about this place and so we went together. First off I got beef tacos and rice and beans as my main course. There was no seasoning whatsoever in the beef or beans it’s was just bland. The rice was just a little better but nothing great. At this point I was horribly disappointed and we got desserts to share. A fried ice cream and churro both were inedible. The churros were soggy and had no crunch whatsoever they felt underdone and gummy. I also though there could be no way to screw up fried ice cream but was wrong. The shell it was in was stale and the ice cream itself had horrible freezer burn with ice crystals. Overall I was disappointed.

I probably go to this restaurant more than any other here in Macon. I like everything about this place. If you ever go, try the Chilaquiles, I usually get the chicken Chilaquiles but beef is available too. I can never finish my plate due to me being full. The service is fast, friendly and always helpful if a problem were to arise. If you go around lunch time before(3:00PM) the prices are great. They have plenty of beers to choose from too(import & domestic) If you can, check this place out!
