My husband and I travel extensively on business, and found this gem of a restaurant on line. We decided to try it based on some very positive reviews, and it did not disappoint! The food was creative, served beautifully, and was over-the-top delicious. The server was excellent and accommodated my unique dietary restrictions. The manager stopped by our table and chatted with us, which added to an already. fabulous dining experience. We will definitely return every time we come to town.

Eat here! You will not be disappointed I promise. I had the ham croquettes and my husband had the fried chicken benedict(bacon jam, YUM). The atmosphere is amazing, it’s well decorated, and the staff are attentive. The price is great as well considering the food is made from scratch and sourced from local farms. What a gem. We will be back.

Food is superb. We got the deviled eggs, farm salad, the beef brisket as our starters. All delicious. My entrée was the cornish game hen with orzo mac n chees. My hen was a bit salty, but the orzo mac n cheese more than made up for it. Ask for Maury as your server– he was phenomenal. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing! This is a must go to restaurant. Everything we’ve had here has been delicious, from drinks all the way through to dessert. Their Sunday brunch is the best. Definitely get a piece of cracked pie if you go. Be prepared though, it’s sooo addictive.

The appetizer was ok, but the entrée was very good. We had the duck & shrimp and risotto. The star of the meal was the dessert, Cracked Pie, seriously delicious!!! It is on the pricey side.

I came here with Gretchen F and reiterate her sentiment that it is pleasantly surprising to find a foodie place like this in Macon, GA. Dovetail can definitely compete with similar restaurants in big cities. We ordered the cheese plate and put-ups to start. The cheese plate was amazing(I’m lactose intolerant and felt it was worth the pain ;)). You get a selection of cheeses and pairings that just melt in your mouth. I was not as impressed by the put-ups. Put-ups was 4 sauces/dips and some bread. I think was mainly bugged me about them was the $ 12 price tag… bring it down to $ 8 and then we’ll talk. After reading other reviews I decided on the Braised Rabbit. Soooo glad I made that choice. It was perfection. I loved how the brussell sprouts were cooked, the texture of the risotto, and the flavor of the pork belly. In all honesty, the rabbit could have been chicken and I wouldn’t have noticed but the rabbit wasn’t the highlight of the dish. My husband had the Beef Tenderloin and it was melt-in-your-mouth perfect. The table also shared a side of the mac-and-cheese which was too much food for me. I had a bite and it was tasty but I don’t think I’d order it again. Cheese plate trumps Mac and Cheese! If you are in Macon, this place is a must. Prices are more expensive than, I’m sure every other restaurant in Macon, but well worth it. If you are visiting from a big city the cost will seem normal. Give it a try!

Everything we had was incredible. Bread, Deviled eggs, cheese plate, fried chicken skins, chicken thighs with pork belly. Tried flourless cake, bananas foster, and cracked pie for dessert. All were good, but the cracked pie definitely had crack in it! I am addicted, best thing ever!

My girlfriend and I went here for a date night. We both ordered the rabbit and pimento risotto. I’ve never really been a big fan of risotto, this place changed all of that. This place is very Macon GA which I liked a lot and wow the food was amazing! Everything from start to finish was amazing! I can’t wait to go back and try something else!

I felt like everything had bacon in it. I like bacon, just not in everything.

Went here for date night. Expectations were high, since we’d heard good things about the food. The atmosphere and service was great, no complaints there, but the food could have been better. The first thing I notice about the menu is that there are only 3 vegetarian items on the menu, not including sides. That’s pretty pathetic for a high-end restaurant in the 21st century. The salads all had meat items on them, and there was only 1 vegetarian entrée. Even the olive oil bread dip came with meat in it! I got the market vegetable plate, which was good, but not amazing. I would have ordered a full side of the sweet potatoes if it was available, but otherwise it was pretty standard. Cornbread was nice and not too sweet, but very small. I’d recommend this place to somebody that loves game, and not really anyone else. I do like that they locally sourced a lot of their ingredients, but I wish they’d expand their menu to have more vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

My father and step-mother took my wife and I here for our(early) Christmas dinner on our trip to the south. This place was highly recommended and it did not let any of us down. I had the trout which was pan fried to perfection. On of the best trout preparations I have had in a while. It was served over beans that were great. Others had the salmon(they lived it) and dad had the shrimp and grits(very much to his liking) Highly recommended that other visit. They obviously have a great culinary arts team in the back!!!

We visited the Dovetail with friends back in June. We started with a visit to a downtown brewery, which I will review separately. The Dovetail is a tapas restaurant and seems to be one of «the places» for Macon’s young professionals. We enjoyed the people watching as the place was packed. The meal was delicious. We tried almost everything on the menu and everything was wonderful. The service was outstanding. I do recommend reservations.

We wanted to try some fine dining with«farm to table» elements, and this place was it. We were glad to have made a reservation; the restaurant was pretty small. The lighting was dim, and southern music was playing in the background. Servers wore plaid and were very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. We as a table of four adults ordered put-ups as an appetizer and shared it around. The bacon marmalade kept us talking — how in the world did they make this amazing marmalade??? The four dips were put into mini mason jars, which was cute. The bread was made from a local source, according to the server. For entrees, we ordered and shared the quail, rabbit, center cut tenderloin, and trout. For sides, we shared the mac and cheese and brussel sprouts. The quail was extremely small, but most of the bones were removed, so we could enjoy the taste of the quail; it was only OK. The rabbit was rich and tasty. The center cut tenderloin was perfect, moist, buttery. They server said it was Wagu. The trout was crispy and done well. For dessert, we shared the cracked pie and the chocolate hazelnut pie. Both were decadent. We think the cracked pie was nicely done: both sweet and salty. The chocolate hazelnut pie was sweeter than any of the four of us could handle, so we all voted for the cracked pie.

This is hands down the best restaurant in Macon. We came here 3 times in 2 days. It was just THAT good! Everything has been amazing. The first meal was lunch where I ordered a bowl of their house chicken soup, with a side of Brussel sprouts, and a side of pasta salad. Everything was good and the soup especially had a nice kick to it. We went back at dinner and tried their mac n cheese side as an appetizer. The sauce was creamy and the ham complimented the flavors well without being overpowering. We both ordered the rabbit and pimento risotto which was to die for. For the third meal we tried their sea scallops as an appetizer, my coworker had the trout and I had their chicken. The chicken was so good. It had a broccoli hash that was still crunchy and re fresh in next to the mashed potatoes and chicken. Originally I wasn’t going to order a dessert but I tried a bit of my coworker’s cracked pie(think pecan pie without pecans). I didn’t think it would be good but it was SOOO yummy! It’s hard to explain but a must try. Honestly, this is one of my favorite restaurants of all time.

Good cocktails in a cool environment. A little pricey for what it is. Service time is a little slower than I would expect understanding that they are making specialty cocktails.

They have OpenTable reservations available. It didn’t look too busy when we went in so I was thinking our reservation wasn’t necessary. However, toward the end of our brunch, the hostess was telling patrons without reservations that there was a 2 hour wait. So make a reservation before you go!

Wonderful … Maybe our favorite Unilocal find ever … Everything was wonderful – service, Food, drinks… Put Up, Chicken Skins, Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, Scottish Salmon, Pork Chops, Crack Pie, and coffees… Worth every struggle to find the place —maps on the IPhone took us to a dead location … Would drive the 12 hrs from Central Illinois to eat here again w/Sarah Massey and company keeping me company

First of all… excellent food. Were it just the food, 5 stars would be warranted. We had reservations for four and were seated in a back room near a table of Kenny Chesney fans in jeans, flannel shirts and requisite ball caps.(I, mistakenly, thought the downstairs Rookery was the casual joint.) We ordered appetizers of fried chicken skins and the cheese plate. We would recommend them exceedingly. The skins were a surprise, for sure. Our entrees were: salmon salad, shrimp and pasta, the salmon plate with roasted corn, and the filet mignon. All were cooked expertly and seasoned exceptionally well. This was really great food. The service really was disappointing. Our waiter was devoid of personality or helpful hints about the menu. He was rarely found and our drink glasses were often empty. Moreover, his slowness cost us additional drinks and desserts. We just couldn’t wait on him any longer. We’ll go back, but will do our best to avoid the waiter we had. He definitely cost his employer money and a better review.

Of all the places where you’d find such an awesome, seasonal, locally-sourced, farm-to-table, true food restaurant, I have to admit that Macon, Georgia is not at the top of the list. And yet, here is where Dovetail lies, a restaurant that feels like it would fit in more with DC’s Founding Farmers and Matchbox restaurants than it does in its own home turf! Dovetail offers a seasonally curated menu of southern-inspired foods, delicious specialty craft cocktails, and an all-around Gretchen-approved hipster feel.(I swear, every single waiter was wearing plaid + vests + plastic glasses.) We started with cocktails — a Pimm’s cup for me! — and the deviled eggs, which had a bit of a vinegar-y zing and were absolutely delicious. Only $ 3! We also split the Dovetail cheese plate, which was super generously portioned with two big pieces each of a light bleu, hard goat, and Because you know me, I’m like THEWORST with menus and want everything, I ended up getting a bunch of items from the small plate menu instead of going with one of the equally appetizing-sounding entrees. First up were the ham fritters, which were more like delicious ham beignets than fritters! They were SUPER light and airy, with a thick balsamic drizzle on the plate… mmm. I also tried the Oysters Dovetail, which were similar to Oysters Rockefeller, with collard greens instead of spinach, and smothered in ooey, gooey cheese. OH so good. And lastly, I got a side of the mac and cheese, which came filled to the brim with pieces of ham, onions, and amaaaazing cheesiness. The waiter suggested I get a half-portion, and it was still HUGE! And for only $ 4! I can’t even fathom how big a full-sized side of mac and cheese is, yeesh. My sister’s vegetable plate was enormous and full of delicious treats like dill creamed corn(UHHmazing!), roasted rutebaga, sauteed spinach, and more, with a piece of cornbread on the side. And oh, how I wish I’d had room for dessert! Our server made it very, very hard to resist, but(as you can see), we had already eaten our fill. Server was great, by the way, super attentive and even though he was new, still very knowledgeable about the menu. Dovetail is a real gem in the Macon restaurant scene, and I hope it continues to do well! The prices are incredible compared to a similar meal that you could easily get in DC — I honestly couldn’t believe the prices for some things. I’m used to paying double, triple that around here! Next time I’m down in Macon to visit my sister, I will most definitely be insisting we return!
