I’m a big fan of Gem City Meats. I’ve actually been going here since I was a child. Not on a regular basis or anything but now I do go on a regular. If you come with high expectations, then you may be disappointed. But if you’re just coming for some good deals on frozen meat, you will be in heaven! I would say I’m a picky meat eater but not so picky to where it has to be organic. And surprisingly, the meat in here is of good quality, even though it’s so inexpensive. They have a pick 5 deal. Depending on what you select, you could come out saving a lot of money compared to shopping at the grocery store. They also have 5 T-Bone Steaks for $ 22.99 and Ribeyes for $ 23.99. I have not tried the Ribeyes but the T-Bones are great! My friends loved them and were so surprised when I told them where I got them and the price. I no longer purchase my meat at Publix, I get it all from here because of their great deals!!! They also take EBT for those wondering…:) Also…the gentleman working every time I come is soo nice. :)

Gem City Meats is a small meat shop in Mableton. From the outside, it looked like an old school butcher where I could ask for cuts of meat and get it wrapped in butcher’s paper. Well, it’s not. It’s just a place where they sell frozen meats. Gem City Meats is owned by a nice, Korean family. I was surprised to find Koreans in Mableton. Anyway, I came in looking for specific cuts of beef, and they didn’t have it. They didn’t really have much of anything. I asked if they had ground chuck. They didn’t even have those. Well, they said they had frozen ground chuck but not fresh ones. WTF? That made me dumbfounded. I should’ve just gotten them at Publix. They did have ground beef with mystery parts. So I decided to get that. But for me, I like to control what cuts go into my ground beef. I’m just picky like that. The ground beef was bad. The grinds weren’t loose. They packed it together so firmly it felt like a rock. I had a hard time making meatballs with it because I couldn’t thoroughly mix my ingredients together. I had to physically break apart the meat. I guess it wasn’t freshly ground meat. They probably ground it, squished it together, and froze it for long term storage. In the end, I would not come here to buy ground beef – at least not for meatballs, burgers, meatloaf, or anything that requires you to shape the ground beef. They did have a ton of frozen meat. I didn’t pay attention to the price to see if they were any cheaper than the grocery store. I guess if you need a lot of frozen chicken or something, this place would be the place to go. I hate giving mom and pop shops(especially Korean ones) less than 3 stars, but I was so underwhelmed by my experience here, I can’t help it. Oh well. If you want a bunch of frozen meats, come here. Otherwise, just go to Publix.
