Central Square, Lynn Commuter Rail Station

The long forgotten station.
This commuter rail station and bus transfer hub is a magnet for the homeless in the area. The bus stop itself tends to be littered with wind-​blown trash. The commuter rail elevator tends to be used as a toilet and smells horribly of urine.
Winter can be difficult for a commuter. The commuter rail platform offers no shelter from the cold and snow. The only positive comment about this season is that the MBTA is quick to ensure that snow and ice removal is addressed. Otherwise, I avoid this location whenever possible.

It’s pretty bad! I live in Beverly and work at Logan and in the morning I wll take the 459 bus over to Lynn for a connection and it really is a sketchy place

The other two reviewers are spot on. Sketchy people, stinks of urine and warm booze, shady at nights, late buses, late trains. So why four stars?
It is improving. For years it was much worse. Many in the area are taking note of the conditions and trying to improve it. They still need new cameras on the platform and by the garage. However, whenever any graffiti is thrown up on the platform it is usually removed within a day. Which is good by MBTA standards.
The downtown Lynn residents have been quick to contact the MBTA about issues. Guess what though? These same issues exist in the majority of MBTA stations. Even Swampscott and Salem stations have issues.
This place can be one of the main reasons for success for the future of Downtown Lynn. It just needs some MUCH needed work.

ok this isnt for the station as much as the buses that come out of it. The other reviewer was right, you see the most random people here, great for people watching, and pretty much everything reeks of piss, and warm 40 oz’s, but the 441 and 442 buses either coming from haymarket, or going towards it are ALWAYS LATE. WHY!!! ive missed many a meeting, date, and appointment because of these buses. ive bitched to the mbta, hell i might as well bitch here

Central Square (no, the one in Lynn. Yeah! That one! Maybe…) Lynn Station has some of the most sketchy homeless people on earth. Which makes it fun! The elevator to the Commuter Rail platform reeks of piss, which is always fun. The bus layout is just weird, it is not uncommon to watch someone running for the 455 just to turn around halfway to run for the 441 instead. With 5 different buses to Boston (the 441/​448, 442/​449, 426, 455 and 459), the two buses to the Liberty Tree Mall/​Northshore Mall, the 429 to Saugus, Revere and Malden, you can go pretty much anywhere within 2 buses. The train platform is very well done, except the benches on the inbound side are a bit too close to the yellow line for my comfort. It’s a decent station, but has a piss-​bum smell, and a really weird layout.
