Simply amazing. I love the owner. He seems young but so invested in his business. He is so so friendly and actually seems so appreciative for our business. The sushi is without a doubt the best in Lynchburg! My husband loves the milkshakes. Can’t say enough good things. Only wish they had a bigger place!

I ordered two spicy rolls, and neither had a hint of being spicy. The menu picture showed one had jalepenos, but it didn’t have any so I felt a bit flavor defrauded. The hot sauce pump by the soda fountain was also not hot – it was like Sriracha ketchup, without the Sriracha nudge you expect. Everything is served on paper plates so expect a sort of sushi-picnic-in-a-sterile-Asian-café sort of feeling. Someone else commented on not judging by the outside, but I think you should. The sushi rolls were good, but not worth waxing on about in a review. Sesame chicken was overcooked headed towards chewy. The prices were reasonable and the young guy working the front was super nice. I don’t know this town, so if there are no other sushi places, it will certainly provide what you are looking for but I’m in disagreement with all the 5 stars being doled out.

This place is great! I have yet to order something from the menu that wasn’t delicious. My only complaint about the place is from Startec next-door. Their employees hang out in front of the restaurant like it’s lunchtime in high school. Climbing all over railing out front cursing and smoking. I really wish Startec would do something about their employees.

Great sushi. Great staff. The fried rice is also pretty good once you get the yum yum sauce with it. For the most part they do great on prep time. I go often enough that the staff is starting to recognize me.

Without a doubt the best Japanese takeout in Lynchburg. Everything is always fresh, no mystery meat, and it’s cheap. My wife and I have been there at least a dozen times and we usually eat inside. It’s a much nicer dining room than your typical takeout place. Excellent sushi(always made to order, not prepackaged) and great cooked dishes as well: hibachi chicken w/yumyum, General Tso chicken, sweet & sour chicken, etc. Service is also great, there’s a younger guy who’s always in there who speaks excellent English and everyone is genuinely nice. Don’t bother with any other Japanese or sushi place around, and don’t be dissuaded by the dingy appearance of the surrounding shopping plaza — try Oishii!

Very good Japanese food! Good service! Affordable! A real keeper! Very clean!!! Large menu selection. Some of the best Japanese food I’ve ever had & the best in Lynchburg. You can’t go wrong with this place!

I love the service just as much as the food! They’re really friendly! My friend has preferences towards gluten free meals and they were easy to work with about that. Good place for some quick sushi.

Decided to give this place another chance… not sure what we were thinking. To begin with the temp was 84 inside the restaurant according to the thermostat on the wall… ridiculous! The sushi was warm & the food tasted like it was cooked yesterday reheated today. We’ve given them our last business. There’s many other places in the area that serve way better food even if it does cost a little more. Gotta say though $ 40 for warm sushi, day old food & a restaurant hotter than the outdoors isn’t that cheap.

Sushi & hibachi I have only had the sushi rolls here and was pleasantly surprised. Not what you would typically envision for a sushi /hibachi place — it resembles more of a Asian take-out place with a few tables inside. The counter help get your order in and the guys spring into action for making your order — I only get to go here and I also have to admit they do a pretty quick turn around on the making of the order to go. Sushi was fresh and the rolls are on the large side — so bon appetite! Parking lot in front.

I try to visit Oishii any time I’m in town. The food is always fresh and delicious. The employees are friendly and always willing to recommend their favorite dish or rolls. I love the fact that it isn’t a really stuffy, snooty sushi joint… it is very simple and welcoming for someone who is not a sushi snob!

Maybe 2 ½. I guess I’ve been spoiled by cutting my teeth on sushi in LA& San Diego. But really I’m not that fussy. The knife cuts don’t have to be perfect. The dish doesn’t need to be a work of art & doesn’t even need to be served on plates that require washing. It just needs to be good fish nicely & professionally prepared & served like-you know, sushi. The first clue things might not go well was the utensil set in front of me. A plastic spork. A spork. For sushi. Really-I needed to actually ask for chopsticks!!! Apparently so. As for the food, to be fair the Oishii! Roll was quite good & the volcano roll — while something of a hot mess — was pretty tasty. But the yellowtail sashimi was served with the bloodline on all 4 pieces! And I don’t mean just a residual of the bloodline, I mean the full thing. Yeah, I know-some Japanese love it. But many don’t & most sushi restaurants wouldn’t serve yellowtail with the bloodline unless it was specifically requested. Most of the patrons of my San Diego spot speak better Japanese than they do English & I’ve never seen the bloodline on a piece of fish there. Additionally the bloodline wasn’t the bright red like it is in really really fresh fish. It had started to go dark telling all & sundry that the fish wasn’t pulled from the ocean that morning.(Which I actually suspect might be the reason I don’t even see it in a restaurant full of Japanese-there’s no way the chef is going to serve something that announces the fish has some age. Don’t get me wrong, the fish wasn’t bad, it wasn’t off, but it clearly was not completely fresh.) So all in all I was pretty underwhelmed. So my search for an East Coast sushi spot continues.

I’m new to the area and needed a quick lunch near my work. I called ahead and went in for the pickup. I was greeted with a smile and my order had just been finished an dead ready in the time I was told. I had the TNT roll and shrimp hibachi. This was way too much food for 1 person but everything was delicious. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the yum yum sauce was exactly that… yummy. I’m sure I’ll be back! Prices aren’t bad either and the quality is good.

I was browsing Unilocal last night and stumbled upon this restaurants listing with a great rating. Considering it’s rare for Lynchburg to have great sushi, I tried it out since it had such great reviews. I had the shrimp tempura roll and was not disappointed! The location is very accessible for Forest and Lynchburg, making it a great place to go for lunch or take out. The only thing I would suggest is for them to put their menu on their website. I tried to access the menu but it didn’t lead to anything. Luckily they do have paper menus at their place. I definitely will be coming back and trying more items!

Absolutely wonderful place to go. The staff is as friendly as they come and the food is all great. I’m there almost every night. I go just to hang out and chat with the staff almost as much as for the food now. Even if I show up alone it’s like eating with friends. Recommendations: For hibachi: steak and chicken For sushi: Godzilla roll For drinks: Milkshakes: Thai/Taro/Earl Grey Bubble tea: Jasmine Slushies: Kumquat/Honey And you can never go wrong grabbing a ramune soda

I’ve really grown to love this place — as has my mom. The owner and his father routinely chat with guests and make them feel very welcome, the food is fantastic, and the service is great. I’ve been often enough now to have developed some definite favorites — I love the little Japanese-style veggie spring rolls, and the crunch roll is a new favorite. I haven’t yet had a bad choice here — and that says a lot! You know what else says a lot? Everyone I know who eats here, LOVES it. So y’all need to go check it out, too.

Stopped in here for lunch based off of precious Unilocal reviews while wasting time waiting for my flight out. Tucked away in an older strip mall is this little hidden gem. I had the jumbo shrimp hibachi and my husband the white meat chicken hibachi with fried rice. Portions were nice and the food was well seasoned. Service was also excellent! If I’m ever in the area again I’d definitely stop in.

This place was a great unexpected find. Overall the food and service were excellent. Our group ordered a pretty wide range of stuff and everyone was pleased. Appetizers — the very reasonably priced seaweed salad was tasty. Hibachi — We ordered chicken and steak as well as a chicken yakisoba. The meat was all well cooked and juicy, and the veggies(onion, zucchini and mushrooms) made a great combo. The yum yum sauce was a fantastic addition. You can also watch them cook your food through a big window. I would put this hibachi right up there with the more expensive places that give you the whole table show. The price was totally reasonable as well. Sushi — the sushi side of the menu was full of pictures of sushi rolls. This is not the place to go if you want sashimi or nigiri, but all the rolls we ordered were fresh and excellent. The Godzilla roll and the Hungry roll were two of the favorites at the table. They also have simple tuna rolls and spicy rolls if you don’t want a complex roll. Again the prices of the sushi were reasonable. Drinks — we got a few bubble teas and everyone said they were as good as they’ve had anywhere. Service — our server was attentive without pestering. Décor — the inside is casual but nice and everything was clean. The only downside I would have is that everything was served with styrofoam plates and plastic forks. That seams reasonable as this place appears to be mainly setup for take out(or at least most of the orders appeared to be take out while we were eating). Overall we had a great meal with rave reviews from everyone at the table. I’ll make sure to stop by the next time I’m passing through the area.

A hidden gem. Seriously, it sits in a shopping complex off of a road few ever really take. When you walk inside you will not be floored by the décor or charmed by the environment, and that’s okay. Ray, the owner of this establishment is himself. At first I thought he was a mere waiter, but after speaking with him it was clear that he was the owner. He gave out samples of dessert to all of the customers. They are constantly creating new flavors. It developed into such a warm environment. I had hibachi AND sushi just so I could give a well-rounded review. Everything I had was vegetarian. The vegetable hibachi was great. Nothing tasted dry, which is what I usually deal with whenever I get vegetables from hibachi places. I had the veggie roll and it was so good! It might actually be the best veggie roll I’ve ever had. This place needs to be a top contender for sushi in Lynchburg. The owner is so personable and clearly cares about the customer and product. I highly encourage anyone who wants to pick up something quick or just relax for a bit to make this a destination.
