Chocolatier Cao is a small family owned location in downtown Lynchburg that melts and creates their own confections on the premises. They import the beans, grind, melt and mix the chocolates into a variety of confections that the chocolate lover is sure to be happy with. Cao offers a variety of classes as well — things like pairing wine with chocolate and a chocolate tasting class. Fun stuff for couples or a group of friends. We attended the chocolate tasting and I have to admit, I learned a lot about chocolate that I never knew, or ever suspected, before. Beyond the chocolates that they make and sell, there are also cakes, coffees and treats that you can sit and enjoy there. The location is clean and bright– with a café ambiance and friendly help. A good alternative to a coffee house. All in all a decent change from the store bought chocolates. Parking on the street.

Wondered into this little gem in Lynchburg, VA from bean to bar, they are making the chocolate on-site. Super friendly and the owner was right there. Catering to the food allergy sufferers is no easy task but this business makes it happen. Coffee is super yummy.

I need to go back to this shop(maybe this weekend) and try some chocolates. I know — it’s their thing and I went there and had something else. My mom and I had gelato. It’s the only product they don’t make in house, but they have a lady that sources their gelato from Michigan. It’s delicious. They’ve got roughly 8 flavors and I tried half of them. Have the cappuccino flavor. It’s delicious. I also tried a blend of caramel and coconut something — good too. Mom opted for the chocolate — another good. Cappuccino — the best! It’s a lovely little shop. They set it up nicely so you’ve got room to look around, have a seat and a treat, and it feels like a patisserie.

I love this place. It’s always on my list for a little after dinner snack or just dinner altogether. I love the gelato. Coconut is my favorite, but I mix it with the tiramisu for some kicks. It’s a GREAT flavor! Everyone comes for the little chocolate treats. Truffles and sipping chocolate have so any options and varieties. The atmosphere is so nice I always go up to the top area for some added privacy. The staff is so sweet and friendly. I am so so soooo happy that this place has become a fixture in downtown Lynchburg.
