The two stars are because the sandwiches I got there were quite good. I wouldn’t go back, however because I am a manufacturers rep who takes lunch to people almost every day. I am very busy so I prefer to pay over the phone, especially because my client offered to pick up. The Wine Merchant wouldn’t take credit cards over the phone(every place I order from does) so I had to stand in line to pay and pick up. This made me late and because I had driven about 180 miles to the area I also had to use the restroom very badly but they would not let me as it is not a public restroom. If you think you are going to pick up your food here and wash your hands before eating it, forget about it. I am a woman over 60 and as such I expect to be able to use the restroom when I need it, especially when I am a paying customer. They were pretty unapologetic about it.

I have been going to the Wine Merchant for sandwiches for over twenty years and I still believe they have the best deli in the greater Baltiore area, as well as a very nice selection of wines. I lived out of Maryland for many years and it was always one of my first stops when I came home. The shrimp salad is hard to beat-large shrimp and just the right amount of heat. One of my favorite wraps is the Pepper Spray(minus the dressing) but you really can’t go wrong with anything. My kids love the tuna, ham and powerhouse sandwiches. Call ahead during the lunch hour because it can get busy but the staff is good and work quickly. Love this place! Too bad they don’t(can’t) have seating. Their employees also know their wines and always make good suggestions.

The Black Russian is a delightful take on the classic comestible. It’s a wonderful stack of fresh roast beef, crisp slaw, cool and solid cheese, and a gooey finish of Russian dressing with flavors of acid and fat competing for this Unilocaler’s highly contested mouthspace. The pumpernickel bread was fresh, soft, and yielded nicely to the sandwich’s mainshow. The sandwich was clean. It didn’t try to be too savoury. Often times restaurants fry their bread, melt the cheese, and overload the sauce. Wine Merchant does an excellent job creating a delicious sandwich without succumbing to over-saucing. I loved the cold cheese. It added a nice firm and non-invasive balance to the saucy Russian topping and crispy slaw. There was clearly quite a bit going on in this sandwich, and yet, there was no dissonance. Go check this spot out!

We love The Wine Merchant and stop in for sandwiches all the time. Their shrimp salad is simply the best! Love the Black Russian too. The Cajun Chicken Pasta salad is excellent as well, as are all of their house made salads. And for the love of God, don’t forget to pick up some rice pudding from the cold case in back. If you like rice pudding, this will be the best you’ve ever had! Super nice service and a great wine store to peruse while you wait for your sandwich to be ready.

Honestly, the stars are for what appears to be a decent wine selection and a very pleasant staff. Husband and I stopped in to pick up sandwiches and we were really disappointed. His Cajun chicken wasn’t spicy at all; my California tuna had almost no taste. The strongest flavor on mine was the bean sprouts, which isn’t unpleasant but isn’t what one expects from a sandwich that has so many other ingredients– including guac. Also, the tuna wasn’t really a salad but seemed more like an entire can of tuna sort of dumped onto the other sandwich ingredients. Like I said, staff is nice and there are lots of wines. If I lived in the area I might come back for wine, but I wouldn’t bother for food.

Just ordered the Cornucopia sandwich and all I can say is Fantastic! If you like great meat & cheese this is for you! I was considering a sub from subway for lunch then remembered I would be close to the Wine Merchant. For only a couple bucks more you get a meal than is 10 times better. I strongly encourage you stop in for lunch. Also looks like great wine choices.

One of the best wine, specialty food, and deli’s around. Sometimes I have to drive an hour and half to Greenspring for appointments, but stopping at the Wine Merchant after is worth the trip. First off, the selection of alcohol is top-notch. You’ll find imports, exports, vintages, locals, mini bottles, and even some limited edition stuff. If its weird, has a cool label, or hard to find, it will be there, too. And all the staff know their stuff. Now the deli portion– awesome. Everyone is super friendly, and I haven’t had one sandwich yet I didn’t like. My favorite is the Black Russian(roast beef, swiss, homemade cole slaw, and russian dressing on pumpernickel). There is also a whole aisle of sides and snacks to pick from. Extra points for having BUCKETS of Fisher’s popcorn for sale. Really worth it if you are or aren’t in the area, it’s one of my favorite little shops.

Recently took my wife to a dr appt in Greenspring Station and was tooling around the area looking for somewhere to grab a bite. Found parking spot in front of this place called The Wine Merchant even though I had my eye on another establishment nearby. So I’m sitting in my car for a bit, and I see people going into the Wine place and leaving with bags of something other than wine. Then I notice the the word«Deli» so I decide to go in after checking Unilocal quickly and seeing high marks. Bought 2 sandwiches. can’t recall the names of either, but both were very good. I think my sandwich was called the Rachel. Ate my sandwich in my car while waiting for my wife, then managed to «acquire» half of her sandwich later that evening when she was eating her sandwich. Planning a return lunch time excursion from work in the coming week.

I work in Greenspring Station and have been getting lunch from the Merch for years. They make some of the best sandwiches in the area. Great bread, fresh ingredients and nice folks. I can’t resist the Hot Rachel with mountains of corned beef, cole slaw, swiss and Russian dressing on rye. Other top choices include powerhouse, ragin cajun and the bomber. It may look like a liquor store but the Deli kicks.

I was very verrrrry skeptical about the wine merchant. All my coworkers love it, but the menu seemed a bit boring and I dislike cold sandwiches. I actually wasn’t even going to try this place but I found myself with a 1 hour lunch break and a growling stomach while working at green spring station. I wandered in, ordered the turkey pastrami and asked them to make it hot. What I ended up with was a warm toasty gloriously juicy turkey pastrami pillow! Everything about it was perfection and the bread tasted like they had baked it. For $ 7 I thought it would be overpriced, but who wouldn’t pay $ 7 for a perfect and delicious turkey pastrami sandwich? One thing that seriously lacks about this place is Any sense of organization. I had to ask a fellow customer where to order(I had apparently entered from the back) and the person taking my order just sort of grunted at me after taking my order(instead of directing me to the lovely cashier). They also have plentiful wine shelves and a decent stock of beer. Service is slow but worth the wait! Slightly overpriced so a great place for a lunch treat!

Been getting sandwiches from the deli for over 15 years now, alway good and consistent! Even if it looks crowded you won’t be waiting that long and it’s always worth the wait(but do yourself a favor and call in your order to save time) Rajin Cajun is my go to pick, friends swear by the Italian coldcut and specials are always great. Any sandwich you have ever seen on special they will usually make anytime. ie the BLT with avocado on multigrain or the turkey cheddar bacon croissant, my other two favorites.

The wine merchant is one of my favorite delis. They make high quality sandwiches with excellent ingredients and fresh bread that are priced between $ 5 – 15. My favorites are the Cajun chicken and oven roasted beef tenderloin. The tenderloin is a bit pricey at over $ 10 but you get what you pay for in a well-designed flavorful sandwich. The mixture of the tender beef with the kick the horseradish in the Tiger sauce gives you is out of this world. I’m pretty sure you can’t get a sandwich like this anywhere else. It’s one of the best deli sandwiches I’ve had in Baltimore. Watch out for the lunch rush on weekdays. Either call in or get there early/late; otherwise you may be waiting a while for your sandwich.

My go-to wine shop even though I live downtown. The prices are reasonable, but more importantly they cater to the consumer by having quality wines with knowledgeable staff. Other stores have might have more expansive selections, but the staff relishes the opportunity to speak about each wine as if they were the vintner themselves. Oh, and the deli selection is one of the best you will find in Baltimore. One of my favorite places in town.

This was my first time here(for the deli, not the liquor). I had seen some of their sandwiches before and they looked really good and well-sized, so I decided to stop in today after playing some tennis. The store itself is cool inside — they have tons and tons of wine racks and they also have a lot of fancy chips, dips, and drinks that you can get with sandwiches and anything else you buy. I went over to the deli where about 4 employees were talking and milling about. I looked over the counter and there were plates of fresh meat, salad, and other condiments for the sandwiches. After looking at the menu for a bit, I committed to the California Tuna($ 6.99), which consists of tuna salad, sprouts, guacamole, and cucumber on wheat bread. They made it all fresh for me and I went home to eat it. I was amazed when I opened up the aluminum foil. Two slices of wheat bread piled high with tuna salad, sprouts, and cucumbers. There could have been a bit more guacamole, but I wasn’t complaining that much. The sandwich was great and of course I saved a bit of it for later in the day. I’m definitely coming back tomorrow to try a different sandwich; apparently, they have really good corned beef and wraps also.

I like to make a weekly stop at the Wine Merchant as a little gift to myself. I breeze through the doors in the late evening and wander around the visually appealing aisles of liquor and wine and pick up whatever I feel like drinking that week. I haven’t stopped at the deli counter yet but it always looks delicious. The staff if very courteous — simply quiet and helpful. I’m sure they would be able to give me any recommendations, if needed. They have bottles to appease any wallet size and I can always find something respectable to take to dinner with friends.
