I would like to write a review, but after driving 25 miles to have dinner here they were not open. So this is not a negative ding, just a heads up that you should call first…

The simple breakfast plate was so good. I killed it. The service was good too. A biscuit is $ 1.25 and two biscuits are $ 4.50. Not sure about the logic there.

We ordered crab stuffed mushrooms and chili shrimp for appetizers, and shrimp pasta and Korean bbq chicken for our entrees. Average food. Not worth the price. There were several flies flying around. We wouldn’t eat here again.

The chicken salad is the winner here! Get it with the mango vinaigrette, you won’t believe how good they taste together. Free drink when you check in on Unilocal or Facebook as well. Service was a little slow but very friendly. This is an old Victorian style house that was refashioned into a restaurant which adds to its cuteness. Indoor and outdoor seating available as well! Good spot to check out either before/after you explore the Luray Caverns.

Over priced, very slow service, food had no flavor. Wait staff could not remember what we had or ordered, kitchen staff was hanging out back(in parking area) smoking and goofing around. Makes me question how clean the kitchen is and what food handling is like.

Very solid four stars. Stopped in for lunch after visiting Luray Caverns(hot tip: get there early!) Charming old house converted into a restaurant. Friendly, attentive service. Really tasty sandwiches, I enjoyed the Gobbler and my wife was quite fond of the Bird’s Nest. We both got cups of the Green Acres soup, a really amazing veggie soup I’d recommend to anyone. Lovely place, don’t miss it if you’re in Luray.

Four of us were at Purple Door for dinner on 8÷13÷2015 while staying at Luray because of good reviews from Unilocal. It turned out to be a big disappointment. The restaurant does have a hint of French countryside decors. That’s the romantic feeling ends. First, the service was so slow to a point that they almost ignore your presence. The menus appear expensive and we ordered from the expensive items. We just wanted hot water and we got microwaved unfiltered tap water with really foul smell of strong chlorine odors you can smell from 10 ft away. When we asked for new water, they came out the same. The waitress tried to explain that the don’t filter the tap water. Really?! How can a pricey restaurant like this one has no basic water filter? Do the cook everything with the unfiltered strong chlorinated water? The rice in our entrees was just raw and uncooked or dried out. We had to return the rice and asked for mashed potato. However, we would have to wait for 15 minutes to get out replaced potato. She offered us free deserts instead. The restaurant is pricey but badly presented and managed. Avoid this one!

Introduction: Between the slow service & overcooked food, our experience here was unpleasant. I do not recommend this establishment & my wife & I will not be returning. Slow Service My wife & I decided to visit this restaurant while visiting Luray VA for our anniversary. The service was ungodly slow. It took 20 minutes to bring us water & silverware, followed by another 20 minutes to receive our entrees. The Appetizer The appetizer — Mushroom with crabmeat — had minimal amounts of crab meat & loads of cheese(which wasn’t advertised on the menu). For $ 8, I wasn’t impressed. Overcooked Mango Salmon: My wife ordered the Mango Salmon, it was dry & overcooked — zero flavor. For an $ 18 plate, It should’ve been better. Conclusion: Between the slow service & overcooked food, I was highly disappointed, and would not recommend this establishment.

My sisters and I stopped in after the caverns. It was perfect. We tried four different sandwiches, no complaints at all, lots of flavor and meat.

Charming Victorian house turned into a restaurant. Lovely décor, cleanest bathroom in the Shenandoah Valley, good service, nice variety of menu items including home baked goods. My only issue was very few gluten free options.

The atmosphere was trendy light French café style which is not my favorite. However with that said the place was pretty nice. The atmosphere was indeed pleasant. I can’t take anything away them for that. The sandwiches were large good and a full meal. The salas and chips appetizer was very good with homemade salsa. The salsa and sandwiches saved this place from being 3 stars. The special was pulled pork which was just ok. The place was not at all crowed but our waitress was slow refilling drinks. Other than that, service was pleasant.

SUPER disappointed, especially because of the 4.5 rating. Ordered the NY strip, but it was a much cheaper cut and the chef never bothered to trim the fat off. The vegetable of the day was from a can(boiled Brussels sprouts). I guess this is the nicest restaurant in Luray, but I wouldn’t pay $ 23 for such bad steak in any metropolitan area in MD/VA.

Stopped by for lunch. The place is well maintained but the food wasn’t good. Portion sizes were also incredibly small for the price. Won’t recommend for hungry groups that are in a hurry.

Omg!!! This place I’d totally awesome. Great service and the desserts made me want to cry. We had a platter of desserts before lunch I would move here just for the scones.

Super cute place and the women who I assume is the owner is very nice. We could not make up our minds in the pastries so she brought out an assortment of them for us! Everything was amazing!

Went here after a visit to the Luray Caverns, and it was the perfect meal after a great time exploring the caverns. It’s basically inside a house, and the purple door(yes, the place actually has a purple door) is the one thing that makes it stand out. The owner was warm and welcoming, and took the time to talk us through the menu as well as the special of the day. We ended up ordering two different kinds of salmon, and both were great. The fish was done just right, and the flavors blended together perfectly. Overall, a perfect place for a quiet, romantic meal if you’re in the area.

I wish I lived closer because this place is a gem! The décor is so cute, the food is fresh and flavorful, and service is excellent. Our server was also the executive chef and co-owner. He was clearly knowledgable about the history of the building, culinary arts and how to manage a restaurant. I didn’t even want dessert, but how he described it, I just couldn’t stop salivating and had to take his recommendation. Tips: –If you order a salad, try the mango chutney dressing. It is fabulous. –I really enjoyed the chicken salad which comes on a bed of lettuce with a fresh scone and melon. It is such a light and balanced meal leaving me 100% satisfied and happy. –I did try a bite of my friends slow cooked pork and it was soooo flavorful. Like bacon times 100. Yummm. –Tea and soup come in adorable china cups. Order one just so you can enjoy the china. I did. –They serve fresh little croissants while you are waiting on your meal. –They serve local wine, but if you decide to bring your own bottle there is a $ 10 corking fee.

So I don’t really ever review experiences at restaurants, but this visit I feel deserved the praise to be known publicly. The owner was our server, and because we shared a birthday, he gave me a special not on the menu. The place is very quaint and personal. Every item that we ordered came out quickly and was delicious. If I lived near here I’d be back often. Since I am not from the area, Jesse gave us lots of good knowledge of the area and took time to explain great areas to explore. This was an extra unexpected bonus. Parking is behind the building, which makes it feel like you are going to a friends house for a home cooked meal. When I took my first bite, I certainly felt as though a good friend took care to make the meal special. I had the flat iron pork meal with spinach and mashed potatoes. The pork was incredibly moist and and well seasoned. Nothing was overly salty, and when I finished the meal, I did not feel sluggish or tired. I felt satisfyingly full.

The food was very good and the service was great. My biggest complaint was serving sizes. My wife and I both ordered Chef Salads and they were closer to the size of a side salad. I walked out of there hungry. My boys got their grilled cheese sandwiches and they weren’t huge fans, but I took a bite and I thought it was OK.

Great spot from the minute we walked in the door! Jesse the partner/operator was our waiter and cook for the afternoon. He was super friendly and helped make the experience. The original décor was for a tea house and it still holds that feel. We were there for lunch so we ordered sandwiches. The kids got create your own, great options for little ones. My wife and I got the Tourist and the Camper. The Tourist was like an Italian sub done panini style with a chipotle sauce. The Camper was a take on your typical roast beef with horseradish sauce on pumpernickel. What really sets this place apart was the freshness of the ingredients. The flavors were good, but it all felt and tasted homemade. The dinner menu looked really interesting but a little pricey. It would be worth a shot if we weren’t a family of five trying to have an affordable vacation. Highly, highly recommend if you are in the area!
