The hub and I were taking a leisurely drive around the Northwest burbs of Boston to enjoy the Fall foliage and take in some fresh air. Yuppies that we are, I insisted we find a local place off the beaten path to buy some fruit, possibly even some local maple syrup. I just didn’t know if we’d be that lucky! Orchard we did find, and Flat Hill did not disappoint. We drove down a curvy lane that evoked fantasies of one day living on a property with rolling hills and views of cattle(but still within 30 minutes of Boston of course!) and we came upon Flat Hills parking lot and little country store. So cute! The shop was filled with fruit and gourds and pies and the like. It was all lovely. We picked a peck of pears, some mini pumpkins to decorate the table top and a chunk of fudge, also made locally, of course. From outside, we grabbed ourselves two well rounded pumpkins and two pots of marvelous mums, to adorn our front porch back in the citay. All came to a reasonable $ 30 or so. Debit and credit cards accepted, people! Now THIS is a farm I can work with. The woman was friendly and helpful, and there wasn’t anyone else there the whole time. I like not being around people. That’s why I live in the city, duh. Give em’ a shot if you’re out that way, or if you’re looking for a reason to be out that way. They’re great!

Flat hill orchards is a full service fruit orchard. Bring the family to pick apples, peaches, plums and pears. Right now the peaches are at their prime. I just bought 4lb for change and have already eaten two in about two minutes. The farm stand is small but sufficient. Local peaches are the best and I never eat peaches out of season so this is an annual treat. These are deliciously sweet, slightly tart and very juicy. Soooo goood!!! I plan on going back soon for mac and courtland season. Can’t wait!!!
