Meh. It’s one of few open on a Sunday, though. I had the chopped beef plate, sides of canned green beans and a mealy, flavorless potato salad; chair 2 went for brisket/sausage combo with Kraft Mac n cheez. The chopped beef, sliced brisket, beans and sausage were all served off-temp, tepid… so for the young, elderly and immune suppressed, this stop is a no-go. I suggest the owners take a food safety course! We did score some thin mint cookies from the Girl Scout selling outside, and some buttery, sweet pecans from a stand across the street, so it wasn’t a total waste of a stop.

If you know BBQ, you know that Luling City Market has fantastic BBQ. The sauce is fantastic. Nothing like it. The beef brisket is so tender, it melts in your mouth. The sausage is not just regular sausage, it’s old style good sausage. I love the ribs. Make sure you bring cash, cause they don’t take credit card. And they also closed on Sundays.

I came here because City Market was already closed. Luling Bar-b-q did not impress. The ribs were tough and the brisket underwhelming. There are plenty of great ‘cue places in central Texas. I’d recommend you keep driving.

By far the best BBQ for a decent price around!

Decent Ribs, Average Brisket, Disappointing Sausages. We stop there on our way from Comfort to H-town. I got the brisket and the sausages. The brisket was tender but flavorless. I didn’t like the sausages. I friend of mine who is a Texas bbq connoisseur got tried the ribs and said they were solid. A plate of meat(two kinds of meat) with two sides and a coke $ 11. Not convinced to stop here again :(

City Market was closed so we tried this place out. Brisket was very dry. Pork ribs average.

Awful. How can you be a Texas BBQ establishment and not make a decent brisket? And then they nickel and dime you on water and BBQ sauce. Staff was unfriendly and completely unhelpful. I had recalled this place not being so bad on a previous visit years ago. Nonetheless, I won’t be back.

First I’ve ever eaten here, usually eat at Luling City Market but I decided to try this place. I was disappointed in the quality of the meat that was served here. I ordered moist brisket and then saw the worker behind the counter cutting into the brisket as if she was sawing wood. That should’ve been my indicator. The brisket was extremely tough and chewy. For sides I had the macaroni and cheese, which tasted like it came out of a box. On a plus side the service was nice, the ladies working the counter were polite and sweet. Considering I mostly eat from the BBQ trailers in Austin where tender fall-apart brisket is the standard, this review will probably sound prejudiced. But the wise man once said«with BBQ, the money is in the meat» if you can’t get the meat right, the rest doesn’t matter.

Pork ribs were average. I felt they lacked some seasonings. However were very tender and fell off the bone. Had the pea salad, it was refreshing and cool as I remember eating it at home on a hot summer family bbq day. Bbq sauce was average and lacked thickness however had nice full flavor.

Got here at 3pm on Memorial Day, they sold out of most things, but got some pork ribs. Not the smokiest ribs, very tender, but lacks some flavor. Although I would call these the perfect pickle and onion rib, piece of rib plus a pickle and slice of onion. Bbq sauce is a little sweet and not very thick but ok. Would come back if given the chance. ¾ pound of ribs, pea salad, and a water, $ 11.

My brother raves about this place all the time, so I finally made a pit stop on my way from Houston to San Antonio. This is a tiny shop that isn’t much to look at; the seats are pretty worn, and you wouldn’t think it was anything significant. However, the food here is mouth-watering delicious! I got a beef brisket plate(~$ 9) which comes with about ¼ pound of beef and two sides of your choice. I ordered the Macaroni&Cheese and the Broccoli. The Mac&Cheese was pretty good, but nothing special. The Broccoli wasn’t my favorite because it was like a coleslaw, slathered in Mayo(not a fan). I should’ve ordered the green beans, which were sooo much better. As for the most important part: The meat here is AMAZING. The beef brisket is so tender, it seems to melt in your mouth. The BBQ sauce isn’t too sweet, nor is it oily and thick, so it pairs really well with the meat. I also tried a bit of their sausage, which was also fantastic! This is probably the best BBQ I’ve ever had, granted, I’m not a huge BBQ fan, so i don’t eat it much. A plate is definitely enough food for one person and can probably feed you for more than 1 meal if you have a smaller appetite.

Good. As Steve B. stated, you can’t go wrong on the Texas BBQ trail. Luling BBQ is pretty decent. I had brisket, my wife had the ribs. That’s it, no sauce, no sides. It’s good, although a little more chew than I get normally. Fit the brisket flavor profile. Should have gotten the sausage ring. I’m going to hit the BBQ trail again later this spring.

Decent food, city market is actually better. We ordered plate meal and sandwich. Meat was slightly tough. Potato salad had mashed potato look and we only ate a little bit of it. Parking is restricted though you can order to go. If you stop on the weekends the farmers market is open. One block down there is a really cool painting of Luling.

«Wuhhh-wuhhhh.» Sausage was mealy with little flavor and brisket was indiscriminately fat. I imagine this place almost exclusively survives off of visitors confusion of Luling’s famous barbecue reputation, a reputation created by a different joint across the street called City Market barbecue. I’d heard it wasn’t as good as City Market, but it was Sunday and City Market was closed, so we gave it a try. Not really any good. But I added a star because the staff seemed nice.

I completely agree with the last review, and am definitely thinking what he said. I had heard when you’re in Luling, you have to try their barbecue. The last time I happened by this establishment they were closed on that particular day. I found that a bit odd, since it was the middle of the week, but thought their business must be bustling, and guessed they could afford to do this. Upon entering, the young lady that served me really couldn’t care less whether she served me barbecue or served up directions to the quickest way out of town. When served, I wanted to ask the question… «Does brisket come with this fat, but took the high road, gritting my teeth all of the way through the ordering process. The owner, or perhaps the manager(not sure) didn’t really come to her aid, and presented his«take it or leave it» look to me. Not once did he ask if there was a problem, and left it up to the aforementioned young lady, lacking customer service skills, to continue providing bad service. Very disappointed… Disappointed at myself for not checking reviews first. This is the first time I’ve posted anything in my life. I signed up with Unilocal just to share this comment.

You don’t come to Luling’s BBQ for amazing service or ambiance, you come here for mouth watering BBQ. We ordered a pork rib and sausage during our most recent visit. You walk into a small dark smokey room to order just the meat. They give it to you on butcher paper and you dig in. Don’t forget to ask the ladies at the front for some BBQ sauce! The rib was juicy, not too fatty, and peeled away easily from the bone. It was the softest, most tender meat I’ve ever had on a BBQ’ed pork rib! Paired with that sauce… it was heavenly! Their sausage was amazingly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I don’t know what voodoo magic goes on in this place, but they make amazing barbecue. My mouth is watering just thinking about it — give them a visit, you won’t be disappointed!

It’s not like it used to be and SURELY not worth being humiliated for! I’ve had better bbq many other places and was served at those other places with dignity and gratitude! It became a ritual of ours to stop here monthly for the past 5 months taking my son to and from school at Texas State. We would spend anywhere from $ 50 to $ 80 each visit getting bbq to go [to share with family in Houston]…UNFORTUNATELY, I WILLNEVERRETURNAFTERTHEWAY I WASTREATEDTODAY! It’s heartbreaking how some people are in this world. I don’t quite understand why racism still exists, but it does! As sad as it is to say, I truly believe I was treated poorly because I’m African American! I was treated as if the money I spent didn’t mean a thing and my business wasn’t appreciated by a guy named Gary, whom I presume is the owner or someone in authority. I purchased $ 80 of bbq to go and was given 2 small condiment-sized containers, so my husband asked for a larger container of sauce to go with it and Gary asked why! WHY? Because we need more than 1oz. of sauce for $ 80 worth of ribs, brisket and sausage… THAT’S WHY! It’s been a long time since I’ve had someone treat me so badly. And to add insult to injury, he NEVER thanked us for our business! After this, we’ll be creating a new ritual… ELSEWHERE!

The hubby took us here since he enjoyed the brisket so much when they stopped by this small town during business trip. So we decide to have lunch here on our way to San Antonio. This place is right across the street to the famous City Market, and quite easy to find. There wasn’t a lot of cars parked outside, but a lot of people, and almost packed up — it must be good. You can smell the deliciousness the moment you step in, and waiting in line just makes me more hungry. They offer sandwiches, plates(0.5 lb of meat w/2 sides of your choice), bbq meat order by weight, etc. There are also cake/pie slices(«if you stick a finger in it, you must buy it»), tea and bottled drinks. We had a rib plate and 1 lb beef brisket for two. The sweet tea dispenser looked kinda strange to me lol. We really enjoyed the meat, brisket was tender and moist and juicy, rib was cooked perfect. Leaving full and completely satisfied. Though not an expert of bbq, definitely recommend this place.

Nice little joint on the square. The Brisket is really good. Not shy about serving up the point side, which I prefer over the flat. Normal sides on request. They also serve sausage rings that I have to admit I was not a fan of. But my partner in crime thought that were okay. I did not have the ribs, but they did look fantastic. Their sauce is really good as well. They even have their own seasoning for sale. I bought a bottle because as I said, thought the brisket was really good. The owner did point out that you season the brisket like a burger. You go not cake it in the stuff. Then get it into the smoker. No need to let it sit. Perfect instructions.
