Food was good and the service was nice. I had a double hamburger and it was good. My wife got the short stack pancakes. We recommend you stick with the short stack unless you are really hungry

Avoid the breakfast buffet. At least during off season. Cold gross food. Except blueberry pancakes.

We wanted an early breakfast, and Old Hamlin was open and a walk from our motel. I ordered eggs, American fries, and toast, and my guy got the same plus corned-beef hash and french toast. The waitress asked if we wanted to have the homemade toast or regular and we splashed out(about 50 cents) for the homemade bread, and I’m really glad we did! Super thick, with a great texture, for my toast, his cinnamon toast and the french toast. Our server was very efficient, and friendlier than your average diner server. I’d definitely go back again next time we’re in Ludington.

This place is disappointing. Half the stuff tastes like it’s out of a can, the sausage looks like it’s from a package, the bacon is soggy and the hash is canned. We make better breakfast at home. Not sure why people get excited over homemade bread. I guess your mom never made anything from scratch.

Caitlin was the BEST waitress! So attentive and thoughtful. She went above and beyond to accommodate us with our dinner last night. You go girl!

So glad we tried this place. The waitress was awesome, funny, attentive, and quick, she really made the meal enjoyable. The food was surprisingly good(perch plate was one of the better ones I’ve had). The restaurant has a long history and there were interesting old photos of the restaurant and old Luddington on the walls. We would all go back. Had a large menu so everyone in our picky group(including kids) found something they wanted. The homemade soups were the best!

It has become a tradition for my family to come here on our way home after picking up one of our kids from Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp every summer. It is really a throwback kind of place, nothing fancy and definitely family friendly and prices are more than reasonable. But there are a few things that I think make it worth my 4 star rating. First, the waitstaff is always very friendly and helpful, always offering to let us make any changes, within reason, to make us happy. Second, I actually get a kick out of places like this, that are a bit dated(ok, a lot dated), but still have a charm to them. Third, it is a very clean restaurant, including the«facilities.» Finally, while much of the food is on the simple, plain or average side, their simple homemade bread is quite good. They slice it with your order and the slices are at least as wide as Texas toast, if not wider. It is soft and fresh baked daily, And you can get a loaf or two, to go. The chicken noodle soup is my favorite dish to order, with the bread, of course. It has thick, homemade noodles, or something awfully close to homemade, and the flavor is perfect. Then there is dessert. The meringue pies are good, but so is the carrot cake. The desserts are also homemade and change, so we never know what they will have, but that is part of the culinary adventure. It is worth the stop if you have picky eaters, young kids or people on restricted diets with you or if you are NOT looking for fresh caught fish, aged steaks or traditional and authentic ethnic fare.

Love this place! We have been eating here for years as a summer tradition. The homemade bread and pies is the best around. Good service too! If you are visiting Ludington this is a must stop place! A+++

Pros: homemade bread is yummo, available in white wheat or cinnamon raisin, was thick cut and really the best part of our breakfast. Eggs and American fries were fresh tasting. Cons: bathroom had no TP, coffee was bland and may have been Maxwell house? Not sure but for $ 1.89 put in some extra scoops. The dining room smelled like someone had been smoking in it five minutes before we walked in. Verdict: it’s past its heyday

The delicious homemade toast isn’t why I’m posting this, the over the top, friendly service is why I’m taking the time. When I ordered the corned beef hash my waitress asked if I would like it crispy on the outside, which is how I love it. I thanked her for asking and she said«most people prefer it that way, that’s why I asked». This is why I gave her a 20%+ tip, just awesome service!

GREATTOAST but the rest of the food I have had there was pretty mediocre. Like typical diner food. Servers have always been pretty friendly but didn’t get my drink refilled even though she walked by about 3 times and looked at the table(that’s happened with 3 servers on 3 different occasions). Food isn’t terrible. I have only had their breakfast though

A good place for soup/salad bar and great breakfast items. NOT A CHAINTYPERESTAURANTEXPERIENCE. Give it a try before going to the Big Boy or House of Flavors.

I consider myself to be a spiritual man. The births of my children, making love to my wife for first time, my first home run, all moments that left a spiritual mark on my psyche. None of them hold a candle to the bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich I ate at Old Hamlin restaurant. My server, CHAR, was like a shaman as I held her hand in the forest, trusting her in this ayahuasca-esque gastro journey. As my teeth passed through the doors of reality, which was their homemade bread that caressed ever so gently the lettuce, laying beneath the tomato like a tender submissive lover who knows all so well his place in their relationship, mounted all by the bacon which establishes its dominance like a rough neck cowboy running cattle through Montana with his best friend/lover. The fries were okay, the diet coke chill, but that bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich redefined my spirituality, my consciousness, and possibly even my identity! BTW, if CHAR is your server order the BLT«Bert Style»

Don’t get the breakfast buffet. Eggs are a low-risk, medium-reward item, but the scrambled eggs weren’t the right texture. The cinnamon raisin toast was good. I enjoyed the old-school atmosphere.

We miscalculated our rations for our week camping at Ludington State Park, and had to head into town for breakfast one day. This was the spot we found(saw it advertised in one of the local papers). The décor was a bit dated, but the staff(and local patrons) were very friendly. A good taste of the local culture! We partook of the breakfast buffet, and were pleased with the offerings and quality of the food, especially considering that it was a buffet.

Breakfast review: 3-piece French toast on homemade bread: bread is flavorful but too thick. The batter doesn’t make it all the way to the center. It was tasty but not great. Eggs: cooked over easy perfectly. Service: very good. Attentive waitress who refilled drinks continuously. Moderately fast service. Good prices. Décor: old american resturaunt feel. Basically like every other place in ludington.

DON’T EATHEREFORDINNER! The high Unilocal reviews are obviously for the breakfast and bread. Dinner was not very good. Nothing on the dinner menu looked good. Just don’t.

Old restaurant that could use a face lift. Good food with homemade bread. I went here for breakfast and it was good. Great thick sliced bacon, fresh eggs, homestyle potatoes, and homemade bread. The bread was a little too fluffy, almost like it had too much yeast. This is a place where the locals frequent. Needs updating, but I was here for the food. will go back next time that I am in Ludington.
