There is an error with the number of dollar signs assigned to this salon. This is not an overpriced salon at all although you will get four dollar sign service and attention to your hair at Unique You in Downtown Lowell. I have been on a journey to find the best stylist for my hair. There’s been some hits and misses. I was pleased with my last salon in Boston, but the distance from my home coupled with the fact that it took all day and into the evening for my last service prompted me to look for a salon closer to home. I didn’t have much to go on when I was researching Unique You, so I decided to visit in person. I was warmly greeted by Rose, the owner, and after discussing some of my issues and what goals I wanted to achieve in terms of the length and health of my hair, I decided to give Rose a chance. I’m so happy I did! My hair came out terrific, the best of all the touch-ups I’ve had so far. I highly recommend Rose, she is especially good at relaxing afro-textured hair.

I think this is a diamond in the rough. It’s hard to find a nicely maintained salon that caters to African American hair. I came in for loc maintenance and was pleasantly surprised. It was cheaper than other places I’ve gone in the Philadelphia area. She washed my hair for ten minutes. She asked what type of gel I would like or if I would like beeswax. After having a pleasant conversation, she was very efficient and I was done in under two hours, hair drying included.

I really wanted to love this place because the owner is so kind. But I had an awful time. I could’ve stayed home and watched 30 rock but no… I wanted a hit comb on a Wednesday night. I called ahead and the woman who answered was annoyed that she had to be in the salon past 3pm. Their hours says they are open until 6 and accept Walk-ins. I Said I get a quick press and curl because I wear my hair natural she said«fine get here quickly because I have to head home soon and I live in Boston» I probably never should have driven over but i did. I broke all Speed laws. Found metered parking In their new location and went in. I was the only one there. The owner wasn’t there and the woman waiting to do my hair had her jacket on as a reminder that I was stopping her from leaving. Issues: 1. She washes my hair for 12seconds 2. She attempted to dry my hair with a dirty towel that smelled of old mop and baby poop 3. I told her about the towel and she then attempted to dry it with a second poop towel 4. She took out a blow dryer and sautéed my scalp with no oils 5. She used Vaseline on my hair as a base coat before the hotcomb(BIGNONO) 5. Chunks of my hair came off in the iron! Chunks! 6. I got up to leave(hair half done and in pain) she asked me for payment. I met the owner and her daughter but I won’t recommend this place without them in it. It’s unprofessional and I wouldn’t go back if someone paid me.
