This place was disgusting, Being a new resident to cedar lake/Lowell, we gathered our friends as a celebration. I ordered chicken which was completely raw! I was so disgusted, when the waitress took it back to the kitchen, I was told that it was only a vein. Remind you my entire half of chicken was pink and not just a part of it as well as my other piece of chicken! The staff proceeded to tell me I was lying! We also had to wait an hour and 30mins for our food! I/we WILLNEVER be going back this place. Such sadness since it so close to me house.

7pm Friday, out of prime rib, waited a true hour for bread at the table, 10 minute wait for silverware after appetizers were delivered, and entrée came before dinner salad. Then the server was in a hurry to collect on check and must of asked 4 times in 15 minutes if check was settled. Food was good, experience was terrible. Staff cannot handle weekend dinner crowd. Do not recommend at all.

Had lunch here recently again. It was as always a very good meal and a great deal. For the price of a fast food lunch I had rolls, a side salad, vegetables, perch and French fries. It is always good food, ample portions at a great price. It does not matter lunch or dinner, a great place to go. I have gone there since they opened with no plans to stop. When I go for dinner it’s always a meal for the next day also with the leftovers. The complimentary coleslaw and kidney beans with rolls on the dinner menu could be their own meal.

While home from Indy, I visited McVeys with my family for a very enjoyable dinner. It has probably been around 8 years since I last visited, but the food was as good as I remember. The place is quaint and cute and is adorably tucked into Lowell’s historic storefronts. The combination platter we started with was amazing. Our family always goes overboard with food and tonight was not an exception. The platter showcased a variety of very lightly fried mushrooms, onion rings, zucchini, cauliflower and cheese sticks. This is the kind of breading you bite into and it doesn’t fall off cause it isn’t overdone. Coupled with the spicy ranch style dipping sauce… Yum. I got the lightly flowered perch with mashed potatoes. Both were cooked to perfection. While I did find two very tiny bones in my fish, I was unable to finish my plate cause I was absolutely stuffed. My boyfriend and mom both really enjoyed their mahi mahi and my dad’s shrimp pasta looked to die for. While they do offer craft beer, it should be noted these are bottles and not on tap. We had a blast and will certainly be back next time we’re in town.

We love McVey’s. Their lunches are a great value and very tasty. The broasted chicken is really good, but my favorite is the chicken/pasta dish on the lunch menu(South Beach Chicken?) The bruschetta appetizer is AWESOME and desserts are yummy, too. Even my teenager likes it, and he hates everything!

I live in Lowell, and eat here occasionally as it’s the only place in town that serves this kind of food. The wait staff is very good. Patty is usually the one who takes care of our family, and she is excellent at her job. The steaks are good, the soups are ok, but the ownership is what makes me not want to come back here. A friend of ours who ate here at least twice a week was told that her money doesn’t matter because they have such a huge clientele. This was after they were charged two dollars to split a plate which never happens because they eat here so regularly. Im sorry but a owner should never tell a customer that their patronage doesn’t matter. The ownership needs to step their game up to the level that the waitresses have theirs at.

I live in Lowell and I have for six years. Started out loving this place(4 Stars) just seems like the owners don’t care anymore, maybe relying on past efforts? Most recently, called a week in advance to make sure the restaurant would reserve Prime Rib for my fathers meal, it was his 78th birthday and his favorite meal. We had the prime rib there in the past and was pretty good(4 stars in the past). Called that Sunday at noon to confirm, because they always have limited quantities of Prime Rib, and for some unknown reason they always run out of this item, maybe because it’s as good as you can get in the area or maybe it’s poor menu management? Just don’t understand why any restaurants only consistency is running out of s popular entrée? Anyway, even after I called a week in advance to reserve the entrees, I was told that they only had two orders of prime rib left and that I could only order it medium well, what?!? At noon on a Sunday, and only med. well? Could the prime rib on Sunday be only the left overs from Saturday?(they only have prime rib on Sat. & Sun.) I took my party of twelve to another restaurant 20 miles away. I won’t be back to McVeys any time soon, they just don’t care enough about the little things that keep people from going to the chain restaurants for consistency. If you go, good luck!

The only thing good was the onion rings and the warm bread! Terrible quality slab of ribs and the meatloaf looked like it was from a slice of head cheese. They only serve Choice Cut quality meats… you can tell it is like the kind of meat you get on sale at Jewel or Strack’s. The flavor of their burger was no better. It highly came recommended… gotta consider the source, I guess. Very disappointing for a ticket that was well over $ 58.

Great place! Portions good and the staff was very nice. I was on crutches and the waitress, Patty, let me go out a door that was normally locked, to get to the car easier. She was very thoughtful and a very attentive waitress! I was very tired from hopping along and I really appreciate it. Will be back!

I recently went to a lovely bridal shower and I was pleased with how well the space could be used. The staff was very nice and helpful and made the experience that much more enjoyable. The drinks were moderately priced and heavenly, as was the food. It would be nice to come back on a date night or something.

The broasted chicken is amazing and the BBQ rubbed pork chop was delicious! They serve soup or salad with each dinner and bread, garlic toast and coleslaw and bean salad. The coleslaw is sooo good, the beans were good too, but not a to of flavor. But again, still good and I would eat it again. The key lime pie was amazing and refreshing on a warm day. The Riesling was slightly sweet and tart, refreshing. I will def go back. Sit in the back by the bar, Joe is friendly and fun.

Not impressed. I ordered the«special» which was parmasean horseradish encrusted beef medallions. My daughters both received their meal 10 minutes before me(they are 11 and 12 so I expect my food at the same time unlike when they were toddlers). The waitress apologized a couple of times for the delay but offered no reason, she also was busy socializing with another table. There were only 2 other tables occupied in the dining room so I don’t know what they would do if they actually had a full dining room. I finally got my food… my mashed potatoes were cold. The steaks had an off taste(frozen??) and the«encrusting» was weird. Just didn’t taste good. My daughter ordered macaroni and cheese and it looked like it came out of a box. Is it so much to ask for a restaurant to make their own mac and cheese? If I wanted boxed mac and cheese I would have stayed home. It’s unfortunate that just okay is considered 4 star in this area. I’d love to know what is homemade there… Anyone saying this is the best has obviously never had good food.

Not impressed. My husband and I started with the crab stuffed mushrooms. They were probably the worst we’ve ever had. The beef vegetable soup tasted like it came straight out of a can. The croutons on my salad were deep fried and reminded me of «fair food»…I know wierd. We each had a steak and crab cakes for our dinner, my husband added shrimp to his. I had the mashed potatoes, my husband baked.. You really can’t mess up a baked potatoe but the mashed really needed garlic or something to kick it up a notch. The steak was ok but not seasoned at all which made it a little bland… we did like the crab cakes and shrimp I hate to be all negative so I should say the server we had was good enough. That’s about it.. If you think this is the best restaurant in NWI, I’m thinking you don’t get out much

the absolute best restaurant in NW Indiana. Seriously, try it and you’ll know I speak the truth. We are foodies and can tell you for the price, you will leave there stuffed as their portions are huge. Wait staff is the classiest in the area, all very good at making you feel comfortable and very, very attentive. Steaks are always juicy and tender and ribs fall off the bone; one of their specialties. I say ‘one of’ because their perch, whitefish, crabcakes, chicken… oh their heavenly chicken, are also favorites. Specials every weekend, great selection of beer, wine and fabulous FULL bar. In historic downtown Lowell, Indiana in a cute, cozy building with tin ceilings and great ambience. I can’t wait to go there again next weekend as we are bi-weekly patrons every month for 3 years now. Try them for lunch too, their specials are fabulous!

The martinis are great and fun! perfect for a girls night out. Some of their dishes lack seasoning and flavor to me but otherwise I enjoy the times I have ate there and the small group parties I have attended there as well.

A charming small town restaurant with a local flair that boasts friendly service and home made specialties. Delicious American cooking! A relaxed, cozy atmosphere with a superb selection of entrees… fish, pasta, steaks, chicken and pork. Very reasonable prices and ample portions. Highly recommended!
