Agree with all Lola A. wrote. Fun place to visit for hard-to-find ingredients, soaps, nice African textiles and jewelry. Family-owned, and it is evident they work hard. If you like some heat in your food, try a jar of Ghanaian Shetor and add a spoonful or two to soups, stews, rice dishes. The butter bread is dense, moist and yummy — perfect with sardines or toasted. In all, a great example of the richness of Lowell’s diversity.

This store is a great place to get all of your needs for African cooking. You can find meat in the freezer, plantain in the front, and in the aisles you can find egusi, ogbono, fufu, etc. There is also a selection of clothes and jewelry in the front. There are videos and CDs by the register. If you head to the back, there is a hair section with a good selection for braiding, weaves, ponytail pieces, and wigs. In the bath & beauty section, there are different brands of black soap and you can also find tubs of shea butter. If you are looking to get into holistic hair/skin care, don’t bother looking online or any natural stores. Come here. You can also find good snacks: chin chin, Ovaltine biscuits, plantain chips, digestives, malt, and Fanta in the glass bottle. Also, this is a family-owned, local, small business.
