I’m going to do this review before I even eat the food. This could be the best f*ing food in the world but the service here is crap! I decided to try this place because I was in the area and in the mood for Mediterranean, you know – live a little. Before I went in I initially thought I’d eat-in and read from my Kindle. The place was empty any way and it was 4 in the afternoon. Decent way for a quick Friday lupper, you know, lunch/supper. But, no. The little man inside was a Jerk! I told him it was my first time there and he seemed to grow impatient as I contemplated my options. Then, I made my choice pretty quickly(I thought). I went for the combo, it comes with a salad, easy enough – right? Uh no. He practically yelled at me, «What do you want on it!» My response, «huh?» Again, his voice more annoyed and elevated, «What do you want on it!» This time he is pointing the tongs at the salad toppings. I was like, okay, and I told him. Meanwhile, I’m thinking it’s a freaking salad at a stop in gyro place you have like six toppings, including the lettuce(BTW, he gave me no lettuce, even though I requested it). #WTH I maintained my politeness as he maintained being a tool and I got my order. Some reason he swiped my card twice. I will definitely keep an eye on my account, just saying. He asked if I wanted it there or to go… yeah, you can guess my response. I walked o er to the only visible station, which had drinks, salt and pepper, but unfortunately no utensils. I looked around. I saw nothing. Reluctantly, I asked. Why? Apparently, I’m a glutton for punishment. As I asked, I noticed forks just sitting out on the counter, but no, he barked, «Over there!» Again, pointing the damn tongs… Seriously! I looked. Saw nothing, but empty tables. Perhaps, if he would have mentioned there was a small stand beside the counter, I would have not been so confused. Tongs are not compasses and I HADNEVERBEENTHEREBEFORE! Needless to say, this could be the best food in the flippin’ world, but I will never come back to this place. I understand that he could have been having a really crappy day. And that stinks. But, I’m a customer, a new customer and you behave so poorly. If you don’t want to pay for attitude, don’t come here, you been warned.

My wife spent a few years living in Greece, I visited a few times, and we even got engaged in Mykonos. Having lived in Louisville for a few years together we’ve cycled through what seemed like all of the Mediterranean restaurants in the city with no luck. Finally by accident i found Sam’s while looking for something to eat. We decided to go and have been back twice within the past 24 hours and are absolutely in love with it. Best Greek food in Louisville hands down.

I went here for lunch. For 6.99 you get a gyro fries and a drink. The gyro was something you would expect to get up north. The meat was trimmed in front of you. It was good. The service was exceptional. Try it out you will not be disappointed, and it’s not a chain. The service was above normal. I will be back:

I am so jealous of everyone who lives near this place! I tried it for the first time this weekend and it changed my world! I got the combo platter with beef and chicken. It was so so delicious that I think I left my body for a few minutes. And the portion size was so generous that I was able to make 2 meals out of my purchase which was just the cherry on top! I highly recommend this place is you like Mediterranean food at all!

I am in LUST with Sam’s! We started ordering togo a few months ago and I have NEVER had a bad experience. Not only is it filled with flavor but it is inexpensive as can be! I spend under $ 10 every time i frequent this hot spot! The food is fresh as can be and it has to be my favorite spot to get a gyros sandwich. The spinach cake is also amaze balls. We enjoy the good olé baklava and salad when we visit as well. Joe and the other employee(Cannot spell his name) greet us with smiles! Even when we show up two minutes before they close! Seriously, these folks are so kind. The only con I could give is that the décor needs to be updated and spiced up! They would get a lot more business if they were to do just that!!! But other than that, this place is phenomenal :)

Nice lil european diner type place! I had a salad with gyro meat and my boyfriend had to try a gyro of course! Tasty and huge portions! Price is cheap too especially for how much you get! Would go back again!

This place. This place right here. I am a fan. So freaking delicious. 4* because it is a little run down. That’s honestly the only reason. The value… the deliciousness… When I’m on this end of town and in this area, I will be visiting Sam’s on the reg. Has immediately jumped into my top 10 favorite places to eat in the city.

Visited for the first time today for lunch with my boyfriend and we will definitely be back! Ever since having an EXCELLENT gyro while traveling recently, I have been searching for a good gyro place to fulfill my craving. This is it! The place was empty even on lunch hour– one other person eventually came in while we were eating. Upon entering, we were offered samples(YUM) which made it easy to choose what to get. I got the beef gyro with rice pilaf and a drink lunch combo for $ 6.99 before tax. Such a huge serving that I easily saved half of it for dinner tonight(if I can wait that long to eat the rest). The gyro meat was flavorful and cooked very nicely, the rice pilaf was very moist and buttery, and the taziki sauce was ADDICTING. I’m confused how some other reviews said it was bland. I am a sauce lover and that taziki sauce is a new favorite. All of the gyro toppings tasted fresh and you could choose whatever you wanted. There are only two small negatives I can think of — 1) the restaurant is a bit smoky, and now my boyfriend and I are back at work smelling like a gyro shop. I would suggest maybe getting the food to-go or going for dinner so you don’t have to smell yourself all day. 2) There are only plastic utensils, even if you dine in. Not a huge deal, but it’s kind of difficult to shovel in all the delicious food with a tiny plastic fork. Overall, DELICIOUS food, great flavor, large portions, and nice price! Definitely worth a try!

When a craving for Greek food hit, I turned to Unilocal to see if there were any restaurants nearby. Sam’s seemed to be the only one in the J-town area. It had glowing reviews. Sweet, let’s give it a try. The restaurant is located in a strip mall right next to Kroger. When I walked in, I was taken aback by the smokey haze in the air. You could actually see it. I noticed when I left that my clothes smelled like grease. You approach the counter to place your order. There was one very friendly man(the owner?) running the whole show on the Tuesday night that I visited. He was in charge of cooking the meat, taking orders, putting together the sandwiches, and taking payment. The place wasn’t packed, but with a few people in line, this caused the ordering process to take longer than it should. The menu is displayed on a board. It is short and to the point, and has a «fast food» feel with numbered combo meals. The fold-out menu pictured on Unilocal is no longer in existence. Your basic options are a gyro, a platter, or a salad, with either gyro meat or chicken. I went with the traditional beef/lamb gyro combo. The combo is a helluva deal. $ 6.99 for the biggest sandwich I’ve ever seen, fries, and a drink. Cool. It appears that he cooks big batches of the meat and chicken at a time, then places them in a warmer. When you order, he builds your sandwich. I really like the«build your own» aspect of ordering, as you get to chose all the toppings you want on your gyro. It’s kind of backwards: he puts the toppings in the pita first, then piles pounds of meat on top, then drowns in a sauce. When I finally had my gyro in hand, I could hardly wait to dig in. Unfortunately, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. The overall quality of everything tasted very cheap(but hey, that’s usually what you get at such bargain prices). The meat had good flavor, but it was very greasy. I’m not one to hardly ever complain about food being greasy/oily. I usually like it. But this gyro meat was too greasy to me, making it a very heavy sandwich. Not exactly the light Greek food my craving wanted. The sauce that was poured on top of the meat was bland. This made me sad because I’m a sauce-oholic, and I got excited when I saw pools of creamy sauce. The fries were good. They were hot and seasoned well. The menu notes: «ask for a side of cucumber sauce with your fries,» so I did. This sauce was also bland. There was not even a hint of cucumber flavor. I don’t know if this was the same sauce as on the gyro or not. The menu notes the gyro is topped with a «special sauce,» so I took it to mean they were two different sauces. Either way, they tasted the same and were both bland. I left very full but disappointed. I’m not usually a fan of the low-quality-but-gigantic-portions-and-cheap-prices-places(i.e. China buffets, fair food, etc). That is exactly what Sam’s Gyros reminded me of. The next day, I happened to be in the mall food court. I looked over and saw another Sam’s Gyros and it all made sense. The food was reminiscent of mall food court food. To summarize, I was disappointed in the food at Sam’s. But maybe that’s because my expectations were too high. I went in with a craving for fresh, light, authentic Greek food. This is not what Sam’s is. If I had known what to expect, I wouldn’t have been disappointed. For what it is, Sam’s is fine. The food isn’t awful by any means, and for mall food court food, it’s probably considered good. Maybe you’re a picky eater and prefer less flavor… Maybe you’re ravenous and just want an enormous meal… Maybe you prefer Americanized-type Greek food… Maybe you want to grab something quick and cheap… Sam’s is perfect for you.

This is the BEST falafel I have ever had in my entire life. They make it fresh, right in front of you. My husband got the combo plate and it was so deliciously seasoned — the flavor is out of this world. Drop everything you are doing and come eat here! It’s a hidden gem that would be easy to miss unless you have tasted their food. We will be back again and again.

Food was ok, Place needs a spruce up, seemed dark. We only stopped there after our walk at beckley creek, had read some reviews the reviews said it was great. I guess its all what your use to or expect. It was so hot no ac or they decided not to have it on.

I added a star because of the willingness from the staff in service. I found the food to be worse than average. I ordered the gyro and an order of fries. The fries were soggy I think due to the grease not being hot enough or the fries didn’t cook long enough. The pita was fresh and the gyro was served with onions, tomatoes, and crumbled feta. All of which were large portions. My issues were with the gyro meat itself as i found it to be higher in salt than most and didn’t have much garlic. The tzatziki sauce was very bland and probably the worst I’ve had. Again I add a star for service. While typing this in the server came by to make sure everything was good.

This is the first time that I was able to try the food here. Last month I came here and there wasn’t any one in sight. I waited 5 minutes before walking out. Today’s visit was different. I was greeted upon arrival. I was surprised because the menu didn’t contain half of the items that was on the menu that someone uploaded on Unilocal. When I got my food it was incorrect. Rather than getting the platter I ordered, I was given a sandwhich. After receiving my food, I made a trip to the restroom. They were dirty and clearly not taken care of. At this point I was skeptical of the food. The food was delicious though! I was very surprised given the bad experiences I had already ecountered. Overall the food was great, but the service and cleanliness, not so much!

YUM! This place was great. I ordered the gyros meat platter and it was fantastic and a huge portion size. When we first walked in they greeted us with samples of both their gyro meat and chicken. I don’t think you could go wrong with either option honestly.

Great lunch spot, found this place on Unilocal when looking for Mediterranean food in Louisville. I had the Greek salad with chicken. It was very flavorful and plentiful. My boyfriend had the gyros meat platter and that was also great. So much meat! The gyros meat was some of the most flavorful we’ve ever had. We live in Lexington but will be sure to stop by another time we are in Louisville!
