Do you remember that scene in Little Shop of Horrors when Steve Martin belts out the song, «You’ll be a dentist! You have a talent for causin’ things pain! Son, be a dentist! People will pay you to be inhumane!» This is what always comes to mind with Dr. Leucht. It wasn’t so much at first, until he switched offices to the Hurstborne Lane location — and it was ever clear if he’d given up on quitting smoking or if he had actually quit. I think this may have been a huge factor in his inability to deal with patients with more… patience. My daughter had a dental emergency over one weekend — we were both patients of Dr. Leucht for several years, and well… I already had issues with the dentist… she was a newby. I felt so terrible for her. She had a molar coming in before the baby tooth had completely fallen out, and it wasn’t like the olden days where strings could be tied to door handles. This tooth was impacted. It became infected, overnight. I called Dr. Leucht on a Friday night and got his wife, he was on the golf weekend and wouldn’t be back until Monday, she recommended if got worse I should take her to the hospital. I ended up taking her to the hospital — but not to Kosair. Suburban was closer and I figured they could treat it. Her face was so swollen that it was starting to close her eye shut. Suburban refused to treat it. Next night Saturday by this time — we were at Kosair, now the whole right side of her face was swollen and her eye was swollen shut, the swelling was starting to spred to the left side. I had called Dr. Leucht again, and his wife said, no — no — take her to Kosair they are the only one with pediatric dentists on call. Kosair would not touch it. So, Monday morning as Dr. Leucht was pulling in with his silver lincoln town car — I was there waiting with a crying child and her face looking like the elphant man.(She was not an an-im-al!) Ok — bad movie reference — but yes she looked like the elphant man at this point. He took us straight back, looked in my daughter’s mouth — as she reluctantly opened it — he said he was just trying to get a better view of the situation, as he did this — a quick slide of hands, he reached in with a pair of what looked like something a bit larger than hemostats, but not quite foreseps, and yanked the tooth. She shot up off the table in pain. No numbing — no shot — no nothing. She held her swollen cheek and looked at him as if she were a secret ninja she would have shoved those hemostats/foresep thingys somewhere where it would have hurt him just as bad! He referred us to an oral surgeon to be seen later that afternoon for an incison and drainage, but by the time we got there, the swelling was gone. He put her on antiboiotics as he said the infection was already being reabsorbed by her body and could lead to more serious infections later. We still stayed with Dr. Leucht for a little while longer, although I promised my daughter if that ever happened, I would make him refer us to an oral surgeon before it got that bad. I never expected a child losing her 12 year molars at 10 and would have had an impacted tooth? Even her godmother — who had 3 kids — was surprised at the face she looked at when she had met us at Kosair. ‚-( We stayed long enough for us to miss one appointment. The day I had a death in the immediate family. It was a horrible day. I had to cancel our appointment. But, they decided it wasn’t a good enough excuse. It was left up to the office manager, she decided that while I’m dealing with funeral arragnments with my family — that we could not come back. I was appalled. We ran into her again at an orthodontist’s office. The orthodotist was very sweet, but I was not willing to deal with her as another office manager — it was a good thing too because we’d gotten in a car wreck that year and I was seriously injured… I would have hated for that to have been on the day my daughter was scheduled for an appointment… afterall her teeth are life and death. Unless of course the dentist is on the golf course. :-(

I highly recommend Dr. Leucht and his staff. My wife, adult children, grandchildren, and I have been going to Dr. Leucht for years, even before he moved into his new office at 4544 Taylorsville Rd Louisville, KY40220. At the new office, Dr. Leucht maintains an excellent staff, modern recliners with massage capabilities and flat screen TVs at every workstation, which makes going to the dentist a pleasant experience. After I retired, I had a severe infection in one tooth. I was in-between my old employers insurance and my retirement insurance and we were not sure who was going to pay. Dr. Leucht’s office manager, Sarah would not accept any money until she was able to verify my final cost. Growing up in a military family, I have lived in Florida and Kentucky as an adult. Dr. Leucht and his entire staff have always provided my family and me the very best dental service I have ever received.

I would not recommend Dr. Leucht. Though the staff was all really nice, and he was as well, I did not have a good experience. Not wanting to leave my dentist in California, whom I fly back to see, I asked for an x-ray of a tooth that was bothering me to send back to her. I was told that the single x-ray would be $ 16 but with my insurance it was only going to be $ 8. I got a bill for over $ 50. I asked what was going on and they said that I had to pay a new patient fee, but not to worry because my insurance covers it. This is something I should have been told before hand. In the end my insurance covered half and I ended up paying around $ 27 for what was supposedly going to cost me $ 8. I will not be returning. I don’t think I would get my teeth cleaned there either. Again, despite the friendliness, Dr. Leucht came in smelling like cigarettes, not something I want to smell while at the dentist. He was also unable to see the discoloration in my tooth. I can see it, every one of my friends can see it, my dentist in CA can see it, yet he said«nope, nothing.» When I received the x-ray, the staff looked at it and said I probably just needed sensitive toothpaste, for which Dr. Leucht wrote me a prescription. What I really need is a root canal. I smacked my tooth years ago and my tooth has started to darken while sharp pain shoots through my tooth from time to time. My dentist in CA warned me of this long ago but I kept putting it off. It’s very difficult to find a decent dentist these days; I will be flying back to CA from wherever I may be to see mine.
