This was a previous Ernesto’s locatoin but has been La Carretta’s for about 3 – 4 years now. The service at this place was very friendly, but I enjoy hot and spicy mexican food. I ordered my enchalata platter extra spicy and found it bland and lacking of any season. When I pointed it out the server said their cook made a mistake and no manager came… no re-offer to remake the food and they really seemed like they did not care. I won’t be going back to this restaurant. If you care about keeping your business there are too magic words that will fix darn near any thing… «I’m sorry,» and make the customer’s order right. I did not even get so much of an apology and found it an insult when they charged me extra for asking for some extra hot salsa which was different than what they gave with the chips.

A co-worker and I stopped here for lunch between errands, I’d recommend you give it a shot. We both had the fajitas(I had steak, he had chicken) and it was nice to have Mexican food that wasn’t El Nopal here in the Derby City. I love Louisville but we have a bad habit of conflating«Mexican food» and«El Nopal.» Our fajitas were good and but the vegetables weren’t at a consistent size in terms of how they were cut. Dad is a chef and a stickler for that kind of thing and I’ve picked it up. The peppers were bigger than the onions and steak(and chicken on my buddy’s plate) which made the fajitas on my tortillas awkward. Also, the tortilla to fajita ratio never seems to be right. I always need more tortillas which wouldn’t have been a problem if the server ever came back after delivering the food. Their guacamole was acceptable but nothing to be excited about. The ubiquitous rice and beans(or is it beans and rice?) were just like the rice and beans anywhere else. The fajitas tasted very fresh and were very tasty, the place was very clean. What killed the experience for me was the service being so, so slow. In the time it took for our food to get to our table we had finished the chips and salsa — and we were given enough for four people! This would have made sense if the place was packed but we were half the patrons at noon. It should have been much quicker. La Carreta is new so I am filing the drawbacks under, «they’re new and getting on their feet,» but they’re so far from where I work that I don’t know when I’ll be back to give them another shot. The establishment was clean and the food was good but the service was slow.

The service is awesome. The food is great. The food came out quickly and was fresh. The owner brought me out some different Salsa and it was great. The restaurant is very clean we really enjoy coming here.

Pretty average Mexican resturant. Not much different from an El Nopal or Señor Iguanas. The do have $ 1 draft beers on Thursday nights, so they got that going for them. I would probably not go back, unless friends in the area were wanting to go.

The food here is good and fairly cheap. Plus, the staff all seemed very nice. But this place also gave me food poisoning. So, I probably won’t be coming back.

Absolutely fantastic place and a great value. As is the case with most Latino restaurants, it’s good food for a good price. What puts this place over the top is the incredibly friendly staff and the cleanliness of the restaurant. I feel like I could probably eat off the floor. One waitress here is named Jessica. Just met her tonight. Friendliest person on earth? Possibly. Another thing — this place is very big and doesn’t usually see a lot of people. So if you wanted to bring a group up here, you probably could with no problems. Terrific value, very clean, and super friendly staff. This place is a winner.

We eat here all the time and the food is always fantastic. We have yet to be disappointed. The food is always fresh and hot and the staff are friendly. Also on Wednesday nights they have live music.

A typical good Mexican restaurant. This used to be Ernesto’s. I normally start out with guacamole and add pico de gallo to give it more flavor. I love to get the Pollo Norteno which is a grilled chicken breast with onions, tomatoes and jalapeños that comes with rice and beens. They have drink specials, live music and a nice outdoor seating area. This isn’t a place to come out of your way to visit because there are so many Mexican restaurants but if your in the area craving Mexican food stop by :)
