This is a follow up to a review I did on our meal here the weekend of the NRA meeting — which, frankly, was rather negative. Their manager, Jeff, called me personally to follow up and let me know that he had talked with the head chef about the issues my wife and I had with this meal. We had a great and detailed discussion about my review, so I could tell that he was sincere. I left the call quite pleased — especially when he asked that I let him know personally when we are returning so he could meet us and supervise our dining experience. I don’t know how much more I could have asked. They will definitely get another shot at our business after this classy follow up. Nice work, Jeff. Well done. Don

Bar none one of the best steak houses I have been to and in Louisville? Service was top notch and the captain sushi roll was delectable. I had the New York strip and yummy oysters and recommend those as well! Overate but well with it.

Loud, flashy(not gaudy) and busy. That is Jeff Ruby’s. The four of us had a(expensive) dinner last night. Three of us ordered filets, and one got the duck breast. The wine list is very large, as is the spirits list. Two bottles of wine for us. One bourbon each. In addition to my filet, I had an enormous wedge salad. Great blue cheese dressing, not quite enough egg, for my liking. Pretty decent though. A Caesar salad was also brought out. Wow. Huge as well, with monster anchovies! They were probably the largest anchovies I’ve seen. My filet was very good, and cooked perfectly. The only issue I had(aside from not getting the petite filet) was that in the time it took to finish, the edges dried out. I ordered it medium. Should’ve done medium rare. Oh well. It was a great cut of meat. Service was spot on. And then some. Very attentive. Come here. Just be ready to spend a lot of money.

Went with a group 6 guys, service was excellent, food was excellent and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Would highly recommend the barrel cut filet, one of the best steaks I have every had.

Jeff Ruby’s is exactly what you’d want and expect from a high-end steakhouse. Excellent food and impeccable service. I’ve never had anything but a top notch experience. The atmosphere is swanky and very«Las Vegas.» No complaints what-so-ever. For cocktails, I love their old fashioned or dirty martini. For food, I usually start with oysters or shrimp, which are super fresh. For a salad, my favorite is the Freddie salad. You can’t go wrong with bacon and a creamy dressing. I always get the filet mignon topped with crab and asparagus. It’s delicious, and the steak is the best of the best. Tender, juicy, and melt in your mouth. My favorite sides are the macaroni and cheese and the creamed spinach. Both are seriously amazing. On my most recent visit, a group of 16 of us dined for a 30th birthday. Even with such a large group, everything was perfect. I have to note how wonderfully our server handled our party on his own. Our group was 8 couples, but the girls decided to sit at one end and the boys at the other(aka, everyone was jumbled for check-splitting). We tried to help by assigning numbers to ourselves. When we told the server our idea, he responded sweetly for us not to worry about it, and that he would handle it. And let me tell you, he handled it flawlessly! Our table had to be as complicated as it gets. Multiple drink orders; rounds of tequila shots bought for others; sharing of sides between non-couples; splitting of oysters and shrimp. When the bills came, everything was assigned correctly and split exactly as we had requested. Not only was he an efficient and effective server, he was sweet and kind as can be. Making conversation with everyone throughout the night. I wish I remembered his name, but those tequila shots clouded my memory. Also, on that night, there was a band playing music from a stage behind the bar. It was very cool. After we ate, we made our way to the bar to listen and drink more cocktails. It was a really enjoyable evening and such a fun way to celebrate a birthday. If you’re looking for a traditional steakhouse, it’s hard to beat Jeff Ruby’s. I find it a much better option than their corporate competitors(like Ruth’s Chris or Morton’s). You’ll spend a pretty penny, but that’s to be expected when dining at a steakhouse. Give Jeff Ruby’s a try; you’ll be no less than impressed.

We were staying in Louisville to do the Bourbon Trail and our second evening we were craving a fancy steakhouse experience. It doesn’t hurt that we walked by here on our way in and out of our hotel and there was a giant photo of a filet mignon smothered in hollandaise right outside. This is a beautiful and swanky old-school steakhouse with raised banquettes and everything. Our server was professional and friendly, and the service overall was excellent. I ordered a filet with foie gras(what can I say other than I felt like it was treat yo’ self day). Husband ordered a giant ribeye if I remember correctly. We had truffled cream corn and oysters also. The cream corn was eyes-rolling-back-in-head incredible. I’m never mad at oysters either. I don’t think we managed dessert so I can’t speak to that, I can’t imagine how ANYONE could possibly have room for dessert after a meal like this but who knows. This is definitely a special-occasion kind of place, we were a bit underdressed in jeans, but we made an impulse decision. It was a weeknight and still pretty full, so plan accordingly.

Getting into Louisville for the first time from Chicago, needed a great place to take customers. Decided on Jeff Ruby’s and couldn’t have been happier. Waiter was great. No rush, laid it all out and worked to get everyone exactly what they wanted. A NY Strip, porterhouse and two Cowboy Steaks around the table. All done to perfection. Mac&Cheese, mashed potatoes, spinach and mushrooms all perfect sides. This was as good as anywhere in Chicago. Great place. Go Go Go

Such a great place! We celebrated my husband’s birthday tonight and had the most amazing service and food. Our server was Mary in the bar and she made sure everyone’s glass was full and we had the best time. I can’t think of a better place to have great food and entertainment.

Never ever can I eat steak at any other restaurant… Nothing could ever compare to the savory deliciousness that my pallet experienced at Jeff Rubys. ANDTHESUSHI– fresh and so good. Each stall in the women’s restroom has its own sink. We went on a Friday night and there was a band playing behind the bar. Beers were around $ 4 and oh my do they have an extensive wine list. A must try.

I was pleasantly surprised by Jeff Ruby’s. The fella and I are steak fans, and we love the usual suspects — Del Frisco’s, The Palm, etc. — and we’ve hit some of the other best steakhouses on our travels — Metropolitan Grill in Seattle, Buckhorn Exchange in Denver, David Burke’s Primehouse in Chicago — so I was suspicious of Jeff Ruby’s stacking up. However, the fella said his barrel-cut filet might have been the best steak he’s ever had, and I might have to agree. It was caramelized on the outside and almost cold on the outside(he ordered it rare). My petite filet was also pretty delicious, but I ordered it medium rare, and it was either a little overcooked or just a little dry in general. We also got a good bottle of wine, some Brussel sprouts as a side, and shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, and our bill was about $ 220 with tip — not too shabby for all we got. The atmosphere is a little neon/gawdy for my taste, but maybe that’s what they’re going for? Our waiter was nice but a little used car salesman-y; however, some of the others I saw seemed a little more normal, but ours got the job done.

We had reservations tonight for 7:30 pm. Got there a little early so we sat at the bar and waited. I ordered an amaretto sour and my fiancé ordered a bud light. The guy playing piano was sitting inside the bar taking requests. He played so well, even played Beethoven’s Für Elise! Once we got seated our waiters name was Chris. He was awesome. Very nice and helpful. We ordered the porterhouse steak(24oz for $ 68) to share, sushi, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes and drinks. Our bill came to $ 120. The manager came to each table and asked how everything was. I can honestly say we will be back. Loved everything about the place. Atmosphere was great, restrooms were nice and food was delicious! They have a dress code, and you need reservations.

Took the family out to celebrate a major achievement 11÷12÷15. Everything was delicious, properly prepared, correct temperature, and service was impeccable. Brian was our waiter and was knowledgeable about the menu and specials, his suggestions were followed and we enjoyed sushi, steaks, lobster mac n cheese, and 6 cheese mac n cheese, and asparagus. The cowboy steaks were just perfect, as well as the barrel cut filet. Playboy roll and money roll are highly recommended. Received a comped slice of cheese cake, 2 ½ inches thick, fantastic. Five of us dinned and drank for a total under $ 600. Very reasonably priced considering the food and drink quantity 12 cocktails, 3 sushi rolls, 4 steaks, 3 large sides, 1 salad. Jeff the manager stopped by and chatted with all the tables to assure flawless running of the dining room.

Would give more stars if I could! From the minute we were seated we loved the place! We started with oysters and the wedge salad, both were excellent choices! For the main course we both went with the filets, my husband’s came with crab meat on top. The filets were cooked perfectly! You could have cut it with a fork! So tender and great flavor! We ate so much that we didn’t have room for dessert :(The next time we are in Louisville, this is stop #1! Excellent service made the night perfect too! Highly recommend Jeff Rubys!

Was there with friends. Music is a bit loud for my taste, but it was excellent to have a nice jazz singer in the room. The steaks were very flavorful. Nicely seasoned, although they might want to go easier on the butter. Cocktails were very good, and so was the wine and beer selections.

In summary, I enjoy Jeff Ruby’s excellent service, atmosphere, and steak. First of all, the mushroom truffled butter was delicious, there are two types of butter(truffled and unsalted) that is spread on a sour dough bread. For appetizer, I had the blue crab bisque which was a bit plain, but the crabs were meaty and succulent. For the entrée, I ordered the 12oz steak(forgot the name) with the Collingsworth sauce with the Mac and cheese sides and creamed corn. The steak was excellent by itself and I would not recommend ordering the Collingsworth sauce as well since it took the seasoned flavor of the steak away. The crab meat that came with the steak topping had no taste and did not taste fresh but I managed to dip it into the steak sauce which gives it a bit of flavor. For the two sides, I ordered the Mac and cheese and creamed corn. The Mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and has a yummy layer of cheese crust on it. I wished the Mac and cheese had a bit more seasoning though to make the macaroni stand out more. The creamed corn was excellent and full of creamy, savory flavor. Overall, I’d recommend the steak and the creamed corn which are both worth trying.

Move over Mortons steakhouse we have a new #3 in my house. They can accommodate my wife’s peanut and tree nut allergy like most high end steakhouses. The difference here is they have a cheesecake that she can have. First place we’ve gone other than Annie Mae’s deserts that has this so it scored big for this reason. As far as the steak it was a five star. I got the bone in filet and my wife got the small filet. Both cooked perfectly. The wait staff was a five star. The reason for the four stars was the sides. The potato was hard rather than fluffy. The macaroni and cheese was OK but I’ve had better. Besides that it was great. Bought some seasoning to try at home.

Loved it! One of the best places overall to go. The service was fantastic, the food was amazing, and the décor is great! Had the shrimp cocktail, filet and brussel sprouts! All were phenomenal! Expect to pay about $ 150 pp, which includes couple glasses of wine and martini. The staff is all good looking and on top of their game to! Attentive and well versed on the menu!
