So there I was, on a quick errand to find donuts and/or pastries and I wasn’t having any luck. So I decided to run a quick search on my phone and the nearest bakery was the Pie Kitchen. My first reaction, «There’s a bakery there?». So I pull up and walk inside to what might be my «go to» bakery for the foreseeable future. They don’t have donuts but there are pies, cakes, cookies, brownies and other pastries. There isn’t a huge selection but you should be able to find the basic, more popular, types of cakes and pies. Carrot cake, chocolate icing on white cake, chocolate on chocolate, apple pie, cherry pie, etc. Since this was my first time here I decided to get a variety of items so I could get a «taste» of what they have to offer. I bought a slice of chocolate icing on white cake, chocolate silk cake, brownie with no nuts and an oatmeal raisin cookie. The chocolate icing on white cake: The chocolate icing was sweet and was the best part of this slice. The cake was dry but tasted like it had been sitting there for a while(not totally stale, but getting there). Don’t get me wrong, the slice was good but probably not as good as it may have tasted when it was… «fresher». The oatmeal raisin cookie: For starters the size of the cookie was just right. Some bakeries tend to sell cookies the size of dinner plates and makes eating them a daunting task. The size of my cookie was reasonable and was not too soft or stiff. The cookie was of the right density for me and didn’t fall apart as I ate it. The blend of oatmeal and raisin was not too sweet and turned out to be a pleasant experience to eat. And that’s what eating a cookie is supposed to be… a pleasant experience. Has a cookie ever made you cry?

Stopped here today on our way through Louisville. As far as ice cream parkour so go, this one isn’t as nice as places like Comfy Cow or Kilwin’s. My husband and I had two different flavors but both had that grainy, crystallized texture of ice cream that has been thawed and refrozen. The young ladies working there were very nice and the service was fine. We would not go back since there are better choices for premium ice cream.

Enjoyed chocolate pecan pie a la mode. Great service. One complaint 8:45 at night and it’s 77 degrees inside. Feel bad for the workers:(

I’ve always been a fan of Homemade’s desserts. Their friendly staff and complete viewing of treats make this shop an amazing stop after dinner. Last night I had their Boston Cream(Crème?) Cake… which is the first time I’ve ever had it. It was super moist and delicious! My father got the butter pecan and his response was«this tastes old fashioned.» I consider that as a huge compliment to them. They do claim to churn ice cream in house. You really can’t go wrong with anything from there, but my absolute favorite is the caramel dutch apple pie warmed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Heavenly!

This place is like a throw back in time but with Ultra delicious ice cream. I had a Chocolate Chip and Malt and my son a Kids Carnival sundae. We both really enjoy coming here for a special treat every now and then!

Two words: yes please! Love, love the pie kitchen. It’s my favorite place for desserts in the city. I remember when they expanded from the original location to having like 10 I cried tears of joy. My favorite things are: turtle ice cream pie, upside down cupcakes(all flavors), and pretty much any cake(love the yellow w/choc frosting, yellow w/caramel, Reese cup, strawberry, & Georgia). I’m not as big on their ice cream for some reason. Can’t pinpoint why, other than that all the baked goods are so heavenly, I never give the ice cream much of a chance. A great go-to place for special occasion sweets or to just pop in for a treat for yourself.

It’s fall and there’s no better way to enjoy the season than to indulge in pumpkin flavored desserts. What a joy to see pumpkin flavored ice cream is on the menu. It was great! I was a little disappointed that they didn’t have pumpkin flavored cheesecake, but the pumpkin roll was delicious. I can’t wait to go back for more fall delectables!

Great ice cream pie and service tonight. The pecan pie and birthday cake ice cream was a great combo.

I visited HICPK based on the recommendation of a 10 year old. Perhaps I should choose my recommendations a bit more carefully. There are three things that I tasted here: a chocolate chip pecan pie, a triple chocolate ice cream and a sugar cookie with frosting. The pecan pie was okay. I don’t think that chocolate chips add to the flare of pecan pie, so I would avoid that. The triple chocolate ice cream was not that good. I think that there were even ice crystals in the ice cream. Because they make all of their ice cream, I have to fault the process. I’ve tasted homemade ice cream, and HICPK’s ice cream was not that good. Finally, there was the frosting covered sugar cookie. That was as sweet as it sounds. If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll love it. Otherwise, you will feel your blood sugar shoot up and you pancreas tell you that you’re headed for Type 2 Diabetes(sorry for the off color joke). Anyway, I would not visit HICPK again. Our bill for just 2 people was $ 16. That is too much to pay for mediocre pastries.

Amazing cake and ice cream selection! German chocolate cake was really good but the homemade toasted coconut ice cream put it over the top!

4 stars because the icecream is nothing to write home about. Meh is the nicest word I can think of to describe it. Go for the pie. Stay for more pie. And then come back for more pie…

This is the closest Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen to our home and on average I would guess we’re there at least once a month(probably twice a month from May-September!) We’ve had so many different flavors of ice cream there, it’s impossible to review them all. My wife almost always gets their Spumoni ice cream. She swears it’s the best she’s ever had. Most recently I got the Watermelon ice cream and it was quite delicious. Shockingly, especially since my wife is quite the ice cream fanatic, our favorite items here have been their other desserts. We used to always get their Dutch Apple with Caramel(which is amazing), but in my old age, it’s way too sweet for me. I don’t have a history of diabetes, but I think their Dutch Apple with Caramel may rewrite that history. The solution? Their Dutch Apple. Absolutely amazing. We have also tried a handful of their other pies, some of their cookies and cupcakes and of those, the item that stands out is the Lemon Meringue — delicious. The service is always good. The location is «okay» — the patio is laughable, but they try.(Their previous location within the same complex was significantly better. And their locations on Bardstown, Lexington and Frankfort are all more spacious.) The prices are a bit on the higher end, but I don’t think we have ever been unsatisfied by a visit to Homemade. Overall, Homemade is our go-to dessert spot and will remain as such.

The store is clean, the staff is great. The pie and ice cream are great. The cakes are good but are from a box mix — I’m not sure if the icing is or not.

So earlier this year I was dissatisfied with my service at this location and my rating reflected it. I am happy to say upon later visits, the customer service and the quality have exceeded my expectations. Awesome ice cream and desserts!

The kids love it, the ice cream, pie, cookies and anything else I’ve tried has been above par. Can’t go wrong stopping here.

Amazing pie! This location can get crowded, and there usually aren’t enough people working, but the pie is worth the wait. You can’t go wrong with caramel apple, a quick few seconds in the microwave and it’s incredible. Also I’m a big fan of the chocolate covered cherry pie. I’ve tried several of their other pies, and have been quite satisfied with everything. I’ve only had their ice cream once, but it was very good as well.

At the end of a long day of driving, the best we thought we could hope for was some drive through and nap. But, lo and behold… among the various franchises was a magical word. Pie. What better way to kick off Thanksgiving week than with some honest to goodness pie? Our family tried the: Ruberry, Cherry, and Mixed berry pies. Ruberry and Cherry tied for first, while the mixed berry was lovely. but not as over the top good as the first place finishers. And after a virtuous day of water, fresh fruit, and home made sandwiches… some sugary decadence was in order. If you need to drive through Louisvile, or just visiting… check it out! This out of towner gives it 4 stars. Louisville is oh so lucky.

Yeah, this isn’t my favorite location either, but it’s not terrible. It just has more of that corporate feel than the locations at St. Matthews and the original on Bardstown Road. I get really nostalgic when I go back to the Highlands location. I can’t wait to taste this upside-down cupcake I bought. They are offering some very cute sugar cookies decorated like jockey silks and horses for the Kentucky Derby right now. The person who waited on me was friendly and the seating areas were very clean. They always have a large selection of cakes, pies, and ice cream for your enjoyment and they are all delicious. I just ate the upside-down chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting and it was absolutely marvelous! Tasty frosting and moist, flavorful cake! Who could ask for more?

This is not our favorite HIPK location. However, if you live this far out, this location will do just fine. If you have only been to this location: don’t judge Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen by this. The others are a little cleaner, nicer, and more home grown.
