Very good Japanese spot. Quiet enough to have a nice conversation without shouting and full enough to not feel bare. The sushi here is fresh and the miso is tasty. I usually get the bento box and leave feeling full. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is spot on. Definitely give it a go if you are in the area.

Friendly staff, atmosphere is casusl, not real intimate. Temperature inside very cold. Wait staff brought a blanket for my wife, and turned up the heat, but it didn’t seem to help much. Food was very good really enjoyed crunch roll, and new Orleans roll. Will definitely be back.

This is by far my favorite sushi restaurant in Louisville. Everything is truly fantastic here. The food is always fresh. The ramen and udon are delicious. One thing I particularly appreciate about the sushi rolls is that they don’t drown them in sauce. My favorite menu item is yellowtail sashimi. It’s always fresh, and the slices are proportionate and filling. Service is great and friendly. Reservations are recommended. Prices are reasonable for the high quality of food and service you get here.

Think I found my new favorite sushi spot! Food was excellent and sushi tasted really fresh. We also had the calamari which was light, crispy, and not heavily breaded. Service was impressively fast and courteous. Also, I think they have the best miso soup in town!

This place is super expensive for the quality of the food. I understand they have to make money but my goodness lol. Over all it’s not a bad place for Asian food but it would not be a first choice.

My go to sushi place when I want something unique and exciting in the sushi scene. The food no matter what you get always has a good mixture of favor and zest. Had the tuna tataki tonight which was excellent and the emili roll had flavorful king crab. Whatever you order you can’t go wrong. The chefs take a lot of pride in the quality they present. Check this place out if you are looking for fresh sushi or a unique dish you can’t find anywhere else in town. Love Hiko!

This has always been my favorite sushi place around, but tonight I had such a bad interaction with an employee i can’t say that anymore. After being put on hold and never having the line picked back up, I call back to place an order. I told a young man calling himself Christopher I had tried to place and order but placed on hold indefinitely, and he rudely responded«well let’s try again I guess.» No small amount of snark in the voice either. He then said it would be a 45 minute wait for a carry out, so, no thanks. I’m glad they’re busy, but I don’t see how with people like that. I’m a retail manager and I would have a fit if my team treated people like that over the phone. Good luck.

Came here with a group of about 8 yesterday, and reserved a private room. We all got lots of food, so we were able to share and sample. The hamachi collar really stood out, which was like a «fish chicken wing», as I dubbed it. Lots of yummy rich fishy goodness that you have to work for. And a sauce! The dipping sauces flowed that night, which is a-ok with me! The Kara age was really yummy, but didn’t have a sauce! Definitely a missed opportunity. Tempura was good, pickles were good, but left me craving a Korean pickle platter(#spoiled), sushi looked pretty and fresh, and the udon my friend got looked great if you’re in the mood for soup. The thing that Hiko a Mon has going for it is the extensive menu with authentic Japanese dishes you don’t see at other sushi/hibachi places in town. They even have cold soba noodles which I will definitely come back for. It’s also a good place to go with a group because of the large selection of small plates, perfect sizes for sharing. Our server was prompt and friendly and although we had people filtering in over time she never became(outwardly) annoyed with us! Oh, and the toilet seats are heated– reason enough to come back. If you’re wanting to mix up the typical Japanese/sushi dinner experience this place will do just that!

I normally go to Ginza and have been quite satisfied going there to get my sushi fix(can’t beat ½ off sushi Monday & Tuesday). I must say though, I thoroughly enjoyed changing it up and coming here. We came in on a Friday night, and it looked like they had most tables reserved but we were able to get a seat at the sushi bar. They also had floor seating which I haven’t seen elsewhere locally. The server wasn’t too friendly, but she wasn’t bad either. The sushi selection was good but they could work on their descriptions. The sushi itself was very fresh and flavorful. I also liked the fact that they have plenty of other options if you’re not looking for sushi.

We were craving hibachi and tried to go to Sapporo on bardstown only to find them closed for renovations. Hard to tell from the outside but very lively inside. Definitely a local hotspot on a Sunday night for families. I didn’t mind the kids but they were loud and everywhere. And they even have happy hour on Sunday’s! Service was great, ginger salad dressing was lick the bowl good, we split the beef and shrimp hibachi which was good-hearty portion wise but they didn’t offer us a temp on the steak which I found strange, it was more done then I would have preferred but still good. Crawfish bites were flavorful, mackerel nigiri was fresh, only negative comment was some of the edamame was cold. Would definitely come back.

The only local place for legit japanese tonkotsu ramen. Totally reasonably priced. The sushi is also top notch. I would say on par with other local places like sapporo as well. Nothing particularly exotic. Lots of traditional japenese dishes like grilled mackerel and nice offering of sake.

The sushi here is surprisingly excellent and the fish is fresh. I ordered the super white tuna nigiri which has a thick slab of fish. I also ordered the fried oyster roll and spicy salmon which were both very good. The oyster roll was fresh and crunchy. I saw a lot of customers order the ramen so next time I’m around, I’ll definitely have to try it! I took one star off for lack of friendly service, but she was efficient.

I love this place! Everything tastes very fresh and the presentation is beautiful. We had the Sunday morning roll, Yum Yum roll, and Crunch Bourbon roll, and Crunch Munch. I recommend each of them. The salad with ginger dressing is cold and crisp. The chefs interact with the customers who sit at the sushi bar. They are very friendly. We always call ahead and ask to sit at the bar. We have always been seated immediately upon arrival.

My overall opinion of this place is «pretty good.» My friend and I came here one Friday night for a girls night out. We are both sushi fanatics and ‘try new places’ fanatics. Since neither of us had been to Hiko-A-Mon before but we were both craving sushi, we settled on this place. We went at about 6:30 on a Friday night. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and asked if we had a reservation. We did not, and the restaurant only had a few parties inside so this was not a problem. Our waitress was very friendly, and was very good at keeping out waters topped off. No complaints at all service-wise. Their house salad is a sesame base, which our waitress explained to us when we were asking if they had ginger salad(they don’t). My friend and I decided to try it and it was very good. Similar to your typical ginger dressing but different enough that you notice. I definitely recommend trying it if you’re a ginger salad fan! The sushi was good. We ordered 3 rolls to split– the yum yum roll, the Jennifer roll, and the Westport roll. The yum yum and Jennifer tasted the same in my opinion, with the difference being the tempura flakes on top of the Jennifer. The Westport roll was my favorite of the 3(I am a fan of the fruity sushi!) The sushi menu is slightly confusing, they have the order sheet which lists the sushi and prices with no description, and then they have a description paper with descriptions of some(not all) of their rolls, and no prices are listed on here. Overall, pretty good sushi. Not the best in Louisville, but not the worst. They have a nice atmosphere, and friendly service. I would probably not choose this place, just comparing it to other sushi spots, but I wouldn’t mind coming back if someone else was making the decision!

The atmosphere is good, their décor is good as well. They need more than one host, the two times I came in, I see her rushing back and forth from the front to the back of the restaurant. To be honest I thought this place’s food would be really delicious but it was all hyped up. The ramen wasn’t suiting my taste. For me if I keep on eating something I don’t favor to, my stomach starts to hurt.

Hiko-A-Mon is usually my go-to place for sushi and other Japanese cuisine. It’s so delicious!!! I always get the Las Vegas roll. It’s deep fried goodness. I’m not big on raw fish so this is perfect for me. Their house salad with ginger dressing is also good. Their ramen. Ohhhh their ramen. I love it so, but usually save it when the weather is chilly outside. It’s a very warm and soothing dish with terrific flavor. Last time I had it they changed the noodles. They were NOT good. I haven’t had it since so I can’t really say if they went back to the original recipe. Fingers crossed they did. It would be a major shame to ruin something so perfect. I usually order a large Kirin or Orion while I’m there. Sometimes I also order some hot sake. Kind of depends on my mood and who I’m with at the time. I have tried several other things on the menu such as the gyoza, vegetable fried rice, chicken yaki tori, avocado seafood gratin(my fav), bbq spare ribs(Woodford Reserve sauce! Amazing!!), edamame, ahi tuna tataki, shrimp tempura, and miso soup. Sometimes they have oyster shooters on special when the oysters are in season. Omg amazing! It’s a small oyster, ponzu sauce, sriracha sauce and a quail egg on top. I was hesitant trying it but immediately fell in love. It’s a BOOM of flavor in your mouth. Everything is so good here! Writing this makes me want to visit for dinner tonight. Enjoy!

Ramen! Ramen! Ramen!!! Eggy, springy, noodles in a rich, steaming hot pork bone broth with tender pork and sliced mushrooms with bites of ginger and topped with scallions. My mom and I both ordered a big bowl of the Ramen and shared a sushi roll. We could not finish all of our Ramen so I asked for a to go cup for the leftovers and asked if I could order a side of the noodles which was just two dollars. So you can guess what I had for dinner the next night. The crunch munch roll was delicious. Shrimp in top and stuffed with spicy crab. I can’t wait to come back for more porky, noodley goodness!!!

This place still rocks! Please refer to my previous review for how epic it is! I just wanted to share a photo of their(non GF) dragon roll because it’s pretty and looks like a dragon! If you’re GF like me, just let the wait staff know and they will take great care of you! Yummy sushi for everyone! Also, their ginger dressing for the house salad is legit! I could make a meal out of the salad there! They also make them fresh in house weekly, so you could buy 12oz of it for $ 7 if you want to take some home!

Japanese style ramen is not easy to unearth regardless of what city you live in. In Kentucky, I commute from Lexington to Louisville predominantly for this establishment’s ‘Pork Bone Broth Ramen’. It’s been a long time since I had a satisfying ramen. The reason behind it is because no establishment is able to maintain consistency(Including this one). However, my experience was amazing because I came on a good day? A bad day for me is the broth being higher in salt content. It happens to majority of other ramen venues. But if you live anywhere in the vicinity of Louisville, I prefer Hiko — A — Mon. When I am at a Japanese restaurant, I must order ika maruyaki. This one did not have it but they had an alternative similar item on the menu. With it, sushi rolls. I do not need to specify which rolls are good because that is a preference; however, the ingredients and fish element was very fresh and delectable.

Came here around 7:00 on a Monday for weekly date night with my bestie. We were seated right away, however, the dining room was more crowded than I expected for a cold Monday night. The dining room is very small(unless there’s another area I don’t know about) so I can see how it could get crowded here quickly. The service was excellent. Our server was sweet and helpful. We never ran out of water. Our food came out quickly and our different courses were perfectly timed. The food was even better than the service. We each started out with a small house salad, which was dressed with a better-than-average ginger dressing. Then we split the Tornado roll, which came out as soon as we finished our last bite of salad. It was some of the freshest sushi I’ve had, and they didn’t skimp on the crab topping. For our entrees, I had the beef yaki soba and the BFF had chicken fried rice. Both were HUGE portions for relatively inexpensive prices(yaki soba ~ $ 14, fried rice ~ $ 9). Both dishes were outstanding. I desired a little more spice for mine, and our server happily brought me a bowl of hot sauce(looked and tasted like sriracha), which made the dish perfect for me. The portions were so large, my friend took home what looked like at least another meal(you should know by now that I cleaned my plate). I was impressed with Hiko-a-Mon. It will be one of my go-to Japanese places, as it’s definitely one of the best in town.
