I absolutely love Harper’s. If you want an honest, upfront mechanic that doesn’t beat around the bush… ask for Dave. He is very down to earth and honest man. He actually cares about cars, not your money. He has taken care of my car and my husband’s truck for years and it has cost us little to nothing. And if his parts are more expensive than others, he will tell you to go to the other place.
I only trust Dave and his word. He is truly the best mechanic I’ve ever met.

Honest, well priced, amazing service! I recently went there to get new brakes. I was impressed with the quality of the brakes better than any other place I’ve gotten them before. I felt like I was a valued customer and he took the time to make sure everything was done correctly. Will definitely go back.

An honest mechanic is about as much as an oxymoron as an honest politician, but if you want to meet one in the flesh, Dave, the master mechanic — the guru of cars is as close as you can get to an honest mechanic. He has worked on all my cars, and as a single mom, he has told me honestly — hey this needs to be fixed now or if you can stand the annoying light — let it go, don’t waste your money right now. I’d trust sending my daughter to Florida and back in this car. Then he always adds, there’s no guarantee there isn’t something else wrong that won’t break down along the way, your car has over 500k miles on it (man those were the days), but for now you’re in good shape. He was also up front about what he could and couldn’t fix, and always referred me to reputable shops that could fix what was wrong. I don’t know why I never thought of Unilocaling him before. It is the least I could do for a guy that kept so many of my clunkers running long past their prime. And boy do I kick myself for not investing the money I had to buy a new car off the lot, into the clunker I had… a 1990 Mazda 626, my daughter and I called her «Stitch» because Dave had literally stitched her back together so many times and I think the most I ever spent labor and all, on that car was about $ 500 and that was for a clutch. Pretty cheap, I’d say, since every other shop was quoting me into the 1000s! It did have over 500k miles on it and I believe it’d still be running today if I hadn’t seen the shiny new Volvo on the lot. But, lemme tell you Volvos are shiny, but unless you are in the income bracket to upkeep those cars, they might as well be turned into recycled plastic. :-(
Several cars later, I still rue leaving my Mazda and am grateful to Dave for keeping her running for all those years. $ 500.00 for a clunker that was great on gas, 15 bucks max to fill up her tank and that would last me a month, and man she was easy on parts and labor at least at Dave’s. Or visa versa, Dave was easy on parts and labor. I think it was a bit of both.
I miss Dave’s wisdom, but not only did fix my cars, he always explained to me why it was broken and what he was doing to fix it — I learned so much about cars from him. More importantly so did my daughter, who is itching to become a grease-​monkey inspired by this honest and thorough mechanic. Now his lot stays full, and there is a reason for it. It’s because he is the best around, and I wouldn’t let anyone tell me any different. He’s not there to take you for a ride, unless you’re asking him to test drive a car with you, and then he’s happy to open a car up and have some fun around the block — he is truly a guru with cars. I don’t know who his teacher was, but man I can only hope my daughter is lucky enough to get an education and study under this man… because he knows his cars. He is the car whisperer.
Shhh…listen as he drives your car… it will talk to him… and only him. And what it tells him is truly amazing. It may say something like, «You haven’t changed my oil in over 50k miles and I’m mad at you.» Or, «I have a belt loose,» Or, «One of my spark plugs is going, please change it and give me a tune up.» Or it could be, «I’m being a smart #$@#$@, and that light you see, I’m just joshing you… Hahaha — you fell for it! :p lol.» Whatever it is though, it won’t get past Dave! Dave will sweet talk those secrets out of your car like it is a lady sittin at a restaurant all alone. But he only does that with cars — so no worries ladies — he’s t-​totally on the up and up — completely professional! And the great side about that is he will translate those secrets of your car into what you can understand, so no one else takes you for a ride — and it’s not a test drive! ;-p
