After patronizing this business since it opened, I’ve finally decided not to go back. I really need a haircut, and I decided to find a new salon after I realized I was *dreading* going to Great Clips. First, the staff can be friendly, but it’s hit and miss. They’ve lied about the hours before– I called the day before a mail holiday and asked if they were open regular hours, verified the hours, came back the next day and they weren’t open. Their answering machine didn’t reflect a change in hours, either. I submitted a comment online and was told that they had a late opening that day. So why wasn’t I told that when I called? The stylist I spoke to actually moved the phone away from her face to ask a supervisor about the hours, t o make sure. I really don’t like making personal comments about people, because I never know what they might be going through. However, the majority of the stylists here smell very strongly of cigarette smoke– and not the fresh kind, either. The last time I was there, I had to hold my breath when my hair was being washed, because the smell was so strong. Lastly, my haircuts never turn out like I’m expecting. The last six times I’ve gone in there, I’ve taken pictures of different cuts. The bangs are always too short(and they insist on curling them), and overall, I can look at my new cut and see some elements of the stylist’s personal cut in them, as if they are thinking«she wants this, but I like my hair the way it is, so I’ll combine the two ideas.» I understand that Great Clips is supposed to be an inexpensive option, and therefore I’m not going to get the most amazing experience of my life there. However, I’ve visited Great Clips franchises in other locations around the city, along with other«bargain» hair places, and haven’t experienced quite the same level or frequency of problems. If you just need a trim, or if you’re a guy, feel free to go to Great Clips. But if you’re looking for anything special, even just some texture, I’d recommend going somewhere else.
