The food here was so good, although their vegetarian options were a little scarce. To make up for that, their beer selection here is INCREDIBLE. The staff was absolutely amazing, and friendly. Dog friendly too, which is a plus.

Came in from out of town(Indiana) to visit my boyfriend, we arrived after 11 so we had to show our IDs… I am almost 23 years old and had to show three forms of ID and even offered to show another but still got denied entrance. Very upsetting and discriminating experience! We won’t be back!

I go to this bar with my friend from church, because I’m Lutheran and we believe in what Saint Benjamin Franklin said, «Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.» Amen, amen. The prices are also reasonable, I am tired of finding out I could have bought a six pack for what I paid for one beer. They have excellent service, a wide array of sandwiches and bar food, and good drinks available. I realize it’s near other Irishesque bars but this one isn’t populated by the kids, this is the older person’s Irish pub so if you’re shaking your cane at the youths — like I am — then certainly give this place a shot.

Fish and chips are so tasty! I enjoyed every bite. Long beer list. I like how you can open it up in the summer and to the outdoors.

I have been going to Flanagan’s since before time. In my younger years I have spent a few Saturday evenings at the bar and even Halloween. But those days have passed and now I spent my stops at Flanagan’s playing trivia on Wednesday nights and grabbing a weeknight drink with friends. Both of these evenings are always enjoyable at Flanagan’s for multiple reasons. One, the ambiance of Flanagan’s is nice, clean and enjoyable. It really lives up to being an «Irish bar» with all the paraphernalia on the walls, and the feel of a European pub. The staff is always attentive and the feel of the bar is upbeat with music over the speakers and multiple TV’s playing a variety of sporting events. I love sports… lol. The bar used to be packed on any given weekend night, but the Baxter bars are going through a bit of a transition, and I’ve been growing up so I stick to weekday chill evenings. Which result in trivia Wednesdays. I don’t make it every week, but when I do I have a great time. There are teams that make it every week, and the announcer has been doing it for as long as I can remember. The questions are tough, but doable, and the social aspect of trivia is great for a workday night. My last comment about Flanagan’s would be about their menu. It has apparently been edited down in the last couple of years to a one sided menu with their essentials– which is not bad, sometimes too many options can be overwhelming. But their food is solid and you can’t really go wrong. As someone who doesn’t like burgers either, I know. I’m the worst, I can vouch for their grilled chicken salad. OOH My Gosh. That salad with the raspberry dressing. Nom. And it comes with two lil bread sticks, which are . That is my recommendation. But overall, Flanagan’s is a great experience with good service, atmosphere and food. Go for trivia one night, but don’t invite me. I’m terrible.

Of all the Irish bars on Baxter Avenue, this one has always been my favorite one. Why? Because: – It has the best beer list. By far. Usually about a dozen great drafts and scores of bottles. Always well curated, and lots of great beer events, like the pint night on Thursday. – The back patio. A fantastic place to hang out when it’s warm(though I wish they still let dogs back there, instead of just on the sidewalk). – The menu. Not highbrow food, but the beer cheese and pretzel is fantastic. As is the fried fish. And the burgers(especially the Murphy Melt — which has beer cheese on the patty). And the pizza, and pizza bites. All are delicious. – The red room in the back. A great place to chill, and you can rent it for special occasions(which I’ve done and have loved). They have trivia back here on Thursdays, which I attended for a few years religiously back in the day. I could go on and on. I also love the wooden booths with the windows that open into the street for the perfect spot on a warm day. I don’t go to this area for bars much anymore, but whenever I do, it is usually just to go to Flanagan’s.

I have lived in Louisville my entire life and I have never once actually eaten a meal at Flanagan’s. For me, Flanagan’s was always just another beer stop on the parade route. That changed when my fiancé and I ate here on Sunday. We started with the Spicy Cheese Balls which were just as described — nice and spicy(although it’s hard to mess up fried cheese!) They came on a bed of homemade kettle chips which were really, really good. For my entrée I chose the Burger Orleans which is made with Andouille sausage. I was waffling between the burger and the award winning fish but, in the end, the burger won out and I’m glad it did because it was juicy and flavorful. We’ll definitely be back. I insist on trying that fish!

I used to dearly love this place and would visit every time I came to Louisville, which is a couple times per year. I went back this past weekend and waited forever just to get menus and drinks, waited forever just to order appetizers, and then ended up cancelling the order and waiting forever just to get a check for my drinks because it took so long. I was also incredibly disappointed to find that they had gotten rid of their pizzas because they were my favorite thing on the menu and what kept me coming back here. I’m very sad and disappointed because I do not plan to ever return to Flanagan’s and my friends that still live in Louisville said the exact same thing once we were finally able to get out of there Saturday evening. Worst part is, they were not even that busy when we got there because it was only around 6pm.

Flanagan’s Ale House is an Irish Bar in the Highlands. It is in an area of Baxter Avenue with a large number of bars and restaurants, but it definitely has a more neighborhood bar feel than many of its neighbors. This is my second visit to Flanagan’s Ale House. Both times the service was friendly and fast. I previously had dinner(I had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and my wife had the tomato flat bread) with a hard root beer. On that trip I greatly enjoyed my Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and the root beer was a very nice accompaniment. I would recommend either or both. This last trip was a little more disappointing. As I had a good experience with chicken, I decided to try their Chicken Cordon-Bleu(which is basically a fried chicken sandwich with ham and cheese). The sandwich was okay, but the chicken was definitely overcooked. My wife tried the quesadilla, which was good, but otherwise unexceptional. Although we didn’t participate, Wednesday night is apparently a Trivia Night at Flanagan’s and there were a number of teams enthusiastically participating. If you like trivia, it seemed pretty good at Flanagan’s, but it does greatly increase the noise level of the bar making conversation difficult. Based on my first visit I would recommend Flanagan’s, but the second was a somewhat of a let down. They have a good selection of beers and spirits, and I really liked the hard root beer; also the Trivia night seemed fun.

Great service, big fan of the atmosphere. Our waiter was wonderful, she definitely added to my birthday experience. Huge selection of beer! And the food is fantastic. If your reading this, get beer cheese, on everything. It’s delicious! All fresh food, will definitely be back

Flanagan’s is truly a Highlands gem. Great prices, great happy hour and always a super friendly staff. Not to mention, one of my favorite patios in Louisville! Their stuffed mushrooms are to die for(and they keep getting better, how is that possible?!). They also have great Sunday brunch drink specials($ 4 mimosas and $ 4 bloody marys).

Came here because we found it online as a badger bar… Definitely not a badger bar because they had every other game on except that one, but they changed it for us no problem. The good– happy hour everyday from 3 – 7! can’t go wrong there… The food was pretty good– we got two flatbread pizzas– the Greek and tomato basil. The bad– not enough beer on tap for an ale house. Also, it’s supposed to be an Irish pub, but none of the food is Irish. Not that I’m complaining… Overall, it was just an average experience.

Flanagan’s used to be one of my favorite hangouts! I was here all the time on the weekends and sometimes during the week. In my opinion they have THEBEST beer cheese and homemade pretzels in all of Louisville. I’m craving them right now! I usually have to ask for an extra cheese when I place my order because I can’t get enough. This is normally my whole meal and I’m happy that way. :) Some of the other food items I’ve tried and liked are the buffalo chicken cheese balls and the chicken quesadilla. The benedictine turkey sandwich was pretty darn good too. I’ve always considered Flanagan’s more of a bar for drinks rather than a foodie haven. They have a terrific selection of beers and booze. I love the atmosphere. Irish pubs/bars are my thing! They have a nice outdoor patio area too. The back bar has music and a small place to dance on the weekends. I love when the weather is nice and they open the windows in the main bar. If you can nab a booth near the front you have the perfect place to sit, people watch and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. On my last visit I only had a few drinks at the bar and then headed home. I’ll be back soon though. Gotta have a fresh hot pretzel with that yummy creamy beer cheese!

Flanagan’s is consistent with their service and food. The patio is dog-friendly to the point where they will bring a bowl or bucket of fresh, cool water for your pooch. This visit we had the pretzels and beer cheese to start, which was perfectly salty and warm. Grilled chicken sandwiches quickly followed, which were equally tasty. Our iced teas stayed filled, as did the water for our dog. Our server was friendly and attentive. We will be back!

I love Flanagan’s. The atmosphere is fun. They have plenty of seating and a huge patio in the back. Great beer selection. Great happy hour. Great bar food. I’ve tried numerous things from their menu; everything has been really good, although nothing stands out as a must-get. Overall, Flanagan’s is probably my top bar choice for beer/food combo along this stretch of Bardstown road.

Loved the place… we were meandering in the Bardstown baxter area and decided to stop for a drink! Service was impeccable, beers were cold. My husbands motto is «bring me another one before this one is gone» and I will tell you, they lived up to his expectations. I wish we were hungry because they had many items I would have loved to had sampled… next time

Flanagan’s Ale House reminds me of the neighborhood Tavern’s I used to frequent in Chicago. Welcoming, warm and a lot of fun. The only difference being very few of the Tavern’s in Chicago had food this good. We couldn’t have picked a better place to eat on our first official night as Louisville residents. The move left us tired, beat up and hungry. We needed food and alcohol, STAT!!! Flanagan’s has an impressive beer list that has something for everybody, but the highlight of our visit was the food. I ordered one of their Philly Steak Sandwiches that was out of this world. It was just what the Doctor ordered. All and all, we had a great time and Flanagan’s. The food, atmosphere and over –all vibe were top notch. Its right around the corner from our new Digs, so I’m sure we will stop in often.

Going to Flanagan’s — aka Flanny’s — feels a bit like hopping in a time machine and going back to college. The beer is flowing and decently priced; the crowd is a decent mix of hipsters, bros and the gals who love them; and I’ve seen more than a few people happily bragging about how inebriated they are. But then again, as a 30-something, I don’t feel like an old creeper hanging out with the kiddos when I’m there. Of all the Irish bars in this stretch of Baxter Avenue in the Highlands, Flanny’s is definitely my favorite, for these reasons: * Awesome patio. If you can secure some seats on the patio during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the Highlands, do it … or rather don’t … and leave more seats for my friends and I. ;-) * Impressive beer list. Flanny’s has a two-page beer menu, organized by style. If you can’t find a beer you like on this list, you are a beer snob of extraordinary variety. * And for the beer snobs, Flanny’s has the Mug Club. Get 100 beers checked off on your Mug Club card, and you will receive a handmade, personalized mug, which entitles you to special prices on select beers. * Great pint night. Yep, this one brings me back to my college days, when Pint Nights helped me round out my glassware. But even though I’m older and wiser, I still can’t turn down a new pint glass — and this is especially true when it comes filled with tasty beer. My Flying Dog Brewery glasses are still some of my favorites. Pint Night starts at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. * Game Day specials. On my most recent visit, which was during a UofL football game, Flanny’s offered a selection of their appetizers at buy-one-get-one free. * And speaking of, their pub grub is definitely deep fried, greasy and tasty. The food is not«artisan.» No truffle fries or bacon-encrusted tilapia bites here, but it’s definitely several notches above straight-from-the-grocery-store frozen pizza bites. The buffalo chicken balls are particularly good. * Trivia. I admit I need to go to trivia nights more often, but some of my favorites were spent here. Embrace that small bit of Irish heritage inside of you, grab a pint and enjoy a few hours at Flanny’s.

Originally, I wasn’t a fan of Flannigans. Their nighttime atmosphere isn’t anything special on a street full of so many standout bars. But where the bar shines is what it looks like during the week. Great beer choices. Great atmosphere during games. Fun and generally classier people than some of the the dive bars on Bardstown road. Clean and professional. Lots of seating. And amazing food. I definitely enjoy going here for a beer and burger, and watching a game.
