First Link Discount Foods and Liqour located on Preston Street in Phoenix Hill has the lowest prices in town on liqour and beer. Don’t worry about the folks in the lot, they are friendly and harmless. Call Joe Giles, store manager for store hours and prices. He has all the items memorize. The store is very clean and we’ll stocked with the freshest items. It is easy to find, just look for the side with Pop’s index figure in the air. You love the store and return all the time, Joe is so friendly and helpful. Call 502−585-LINK and ask for Joe for hours and prices.

I don’t know how long this supermarket has been here, but it’s been decades.
There are certainly some positives here. Poor neighborhoods have a problem attracting and keeping supermarkets. In many cases, once a neighborhood has gone downhill, the supermarkets close or move. I’m sure that there are locals who depend on First Link, since it carries all the necessary staple food items. I don’t think these residents need a Whole Foods.
That said, a lot of the shelves are empty, and the selections are meager. I get the sense that a lot of the profit for the business comes from tobacco and liquor sales. But as long as they keep milk and eggs and bananas on the shelves, it’s something of an asset to the community.
