I’ve never been unhappy with a meal from Cravings. I’d call it food like Grandma’s.The menu rotates daily. The stuffed cabbage, fried cod, fried catfish, meatloaf and stuffed pork chops are my own favorite entrees. The mashed potatoes, cheesy cauliflower casserole, breaded tomatoes with pasta and mac and cheese are great sides. The cornbread and rolls are like homemade. The Chili with spaghetti and beans, clam chowder and gumbo are good soups. The team running Cravings is friendly, laid back and totally accommodating. I’ve never had a bad experience here. I make a big deal of this point because it’s very easy to encounter disinterested or rude counter help at downtown eateries. It’s never happened here. The last day I was there and leaving my tray in one of the dish washing racks, one of the staff asked«How are you doing? Was everything OK?» That attitude is hard to find anywhere in retail or restaurants these days. But it is very much appreciated.

When reviewing any establishment it is oh so important be cognizant of what the establishment is attempting to accomplishment. Cravings is a cafeteria style restaurant perfect for a quick stop for lunch for those working downtown. Anything special? Not really, but they do what they do well and I was satisfied. Cravings is located in the bottom of the PNC building in downtown Louisville, KY. Grab ya a tray and pick a line — they have a good looking salad bar, a burger bar, and a few other fixings. Me and a few coworkers were somewhat in a hurry, so I couldn’t really stand around and gander at all the provided fixings. The options in the line I ended up in were meat loaf(huge slices), fried fish, fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, and red beans and rice. I’m a sucker for carbs, so I went with the chicken and dumplings. My sides were the green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. The chicken and dumplings were good — dumplings tasted homemade and the chicken was tender. The sides were good as well. That, a corn muffin, and a drink was less than $ 9.00. Not a bad deal as some fast food prices are getting higher and higher now-a-days. Two things to note about the food — it changes daily and the salads are sold by weight(I do not know the price per pound). There is no table service, but all servers behind the counter were friendly and kept the lines moving. The gentleman who took our trays at the turn in area was also very nice. In a world where most folks give you weird looks for saying, «Have a nice day,» the staff here provided a fresh attitude that more people in this style of the food service industry need to have. If you need a quick, hearty bite and you’re crunched for time downtown, Cravings might just be what you’re looking for.
