This store has a bit of everything, home décor, clothes, purses and wallets, and a plethora of rugs. The clothing was not so much my taste but appeared to be good quality. They had some cute home décor, including state(Indiana, Kentucky) that would have made a great Christmas gift if it would have been able to fit in my suitcase.

These four stars are a longing bunch. I wish I could pay Clay and Cotton the amount of visits I like to pay 4 star establishments, however the prices are a little too steep for me. That doesn’t stop this store from being a great one to stop in on, especially if depositing a check at the BB&T next door. It’s quality over quantity and comfort over high fashion with the items in this store and for this reason, I find it a great place for hand-knit sweaters. I can be pretty particular about the feel of a sweater and many of them stocked at Clay and Cotton are both soft and durable — and most importantly not the kind that look like they’ll turn fuzzy. The overarching style in the store is 40-something bohemian yoga instructor meets 20-something Anthropologie addict. Yep, there’s lots of earthy chic home décor, candles, soaps, etc too.

This place has some neat things. I had an expired Groupon — bummer that it expired, but I still had the paid value and I’ve been wanting to check the store out anyway. It’s a boutique, with boutique prices, what you would expect — a place to shop for something special. I did pick out a little something special, well over the $ 20 Groupon value, and was then informed that the store owner was not honoring expired Groupons because of some contract with Groupon itself that she didn’t realize she agreed to. Obviously Groupon will refund me my $ 20, but I wasted 25 minutes of my time there, and Clay and Cotton just lost a to-be repeat customer — way to be accommodating. It appears building customer relationships is not a priority — isn’t that one of the draws of shopping at a small, locally owned boutique?
