We stopped in for dinner on our way back to the city after touring Monticello. The kids had dogs and burgers we had ribs and chicken. The brisket sandwich was awesome and the BBQ sauce is fantastic. Simple place in a nifty little downtown spot just a mile off the road home.

My wife and I stopped in here for a late lunch/early supper and were extremely happy with our decision to do so. I had the brisket which is hard to find in the Charlottesville area. Boy did I make a great choice! It was moist, plentiful, and had a fantastic BBQ sauce that I loved. One of my sides was onion rings and they were homemade — not pre-battered. Cooked perfectly, they were crisp but not burned. My wife chose pulled pork with hushpuppies & cole slaw. She loved everything she had. While the place was not busy, at this hour, the server was very friendly and funny. The owner came by to check on our satisfaction, and she was very nice and easy to talk to. She seemed a sincere person who cared whether we were happy or not. If you are in the area — stop for BBQ you will not be disappointed!

My family and I were so excited after reading the reviews for ‘this lil hole in the wall BBQ joint ’ that we THOUGHT was the real deal. First when we arrived for a late lunch around 3:30, there was one other couple seated in the restaurant(that should have been our first red flag). When the waitress finally took her time to come over to take our order, she didn’t really seem interested to take our order at all. We ordered the ribs dinner, brisket dinner, and a kids corn dog. She brought out the kids meal and brisket dinner. It was ok if you like things out of a can. By the time my son finished his kids meal and my husband was waiting politely for my rib dinner to come, his meal had already gotten cold. My kids were starving and filled up on the cold side dishes of green beans out of a can, soggy mac n cheese, and bushes baked beans(Yeah, thats right!!! the waitress was bragging about their baked beans coming straight from the can!) So here comes the rib dinner. so excited, our mouths were watering and guess what, they were straight up COLD! So let me just reiterate, our first 2 meals were out, cold side dishes and my husband’s brisket was cold because he waited a full 15 min between dishes to eat with his wife. HERECOMETHERIBS but guess what gang??? They were cold too! So rather than give us some fresh ribs off the BBQ(because this was a BBQ restaurant), they threw them in the microwave for 10 min. If I wanted microwaved BBQ, I would have stayed home. When I asked the waitress for the check because I had had enough canned food and didn’t want a $ 20 microwaved rib dinner, she turned back to me and said, «You’ve had a problem with your husband and kids since you came in here?» Then she proceeded to tell me that it would take too long to put the ribs on the BBQ. Well sweetheart, that’s the whole point of BBQ. Little did I know that many people in the town avoid that joint because of the rude service. No wonder why there was only one couple in the restaurant. This waitress did herself a find job representing this ‘family bbq’ restaurant. Afterwards, we went straight to a supermarket and both the butcher and cashier just chuckled because even the townspeople avoid Smokin’ Eddies. Once we got back to the vaca

Passing through Louisa, we stopped for a quick dinner, but didn’t relish the thought of a fast food joint. To our pleasant surprise, we stumbled upon Smokin’ Eddie’s. As usual, I asked what are the customers’ favorites and we settled on a dinner with half ribs and chopped pork with cole slaw and baked beans. Not being as big a BBQ fan as I, my wife ordered the daily special of country fried steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Our granddaughter ordered the BBQ sandwich with Cole slaw and fries. The BBQ was excellent as the smokey flavor was rich in both the pork and ribs. The ribs were Memphis style with a good dry rub seasoning as the meat was perfectly done… Moist on the inside, easily falling off the bone. By the way, the portion size was great with 5 bones and a large serving of pork. The creamy slaw was just right, not too sweet. At many places, the beans are just filler; but here, my mouth was treated to soft and sweet baked beans with a great flavor. One note on the two available sauces… Home made and paired well with the meat. The daily special of country fried steak was good, but the mashed potatoes were great. All mashed potatoes should taste this fresh. The green beans were also country style, which is exactly what my wife likes. Even the French fries are worth comments… Hot and crispy. If you like sweet tea, you’ll be happy here. Finally, we had to get banana pudding… Wow! Home made, smooth and flavorful, Donna assembled the masterpiece with great care. We were so full, we had to get it to go, but I’m SO glad we did. We rarely pass though Louisa, but I might have to make a special trip from time to time. I definitely want to come back and try the beef brisket.

Had an afternoon to explore the thriving town of Louisa, VA and decided to try Smokin’ Eddie’s BBQ. It was a casual experience, sit down and order — but casual enough that I initially thought we should order at the counter and sit down. The sauces were flavorful but not that spicy, and the meat came out very smokey tasting; and despite the name, I did not quite expect that. The brisket was pretty darned good, but the ribs were smokey enough to not really be great, though with enough hot sauce they got to be enjoyable. The surprise delights were the slaw and potato salad, neither of which is normally my thing, but they were very good according to my dinner partner! Skip the green beans; so overcooked as to not be worth it at all. The sweet tea was quite good, and the service was friendly, helpful, and willing to engage in conversation(which we welcomed) — highly recommend the service staff.
