This was probably the worst customer service experience I’ve had at a canoe livery… or even any business. When we arrived, we were completely ignored by the staff. It took several minutes and prompting to get the attention of the workers standing around chatting. Uncomfortable! We were then left to our devices, having to pull our own gear out of a shed without any assistance(which we weren’t told about, so we spent another 5 minutes until we asked and were told to just grab our own). Nobody gave any hint that they knew what they were doing; either when a driver would arrive or if a route was even open. A map, directions, and other information was supposed to be provided, yet we received none. We were taking a 7 year old along, and not a single person made sure he was properly equipped, a major safety hazard Once we made it out onto the river, it was alright(though one of the boats was actually launched backwards, with the seats facing the wrong way, which our less-experienced paddlers did not notice until I pointed it out later). The water moved at a nice pace and had some surprise currents in store that actually spun us around at one point and another that nearly drove us aground. This was fun, but the customer service beforehand left a sour mood to settle over the group. As we landed, an attendant came out and pulled one of our boats ashore. He then watched(hands on hips and all) as my 50 year-old mother struggled to heft a heavy(water-logged) cooler out of an unsteady canoe. It was very unprofessional, as many other liveries have assisted with unloading and all the rest. When asked what to do with our gear, we were told to put it away ourselves. Keep in mind that this trip cost over $ 100 alone, meaning that this paltry service was largely unexpected. We only expected basic courtesy but received none. Disappointed all around. I wasn’t planning on writing a review, but when we returned home I found that they had completely forgotten to issue us the required waivers to use their services. The level of incompetence and disregard for the customer was BEYOND astounding; ignoring us in literally every single aspect of our trip. Other than the drive(which was not the one we wanted in the first place) and access to their shed, every other aspect of the trip was missing from even an adequate trip. Don’t waste your time and money. Anywhere else would be better.

Much less expensive than Mohican and just as enjoyable. We have kayaked and rafted from LCL many times in the past few years, and plan to many times over the next few years as well.

My family went canoeing here for the second time, and we had a great time. The staff was super friendly and knowledgable. They drove us to our drop off point.(My only complaint was the van was super hot and not very ventilated.) We had three canoes and enjoyed a very relaxing trip down the Mohican. It is a very easy ride and not super challenging, but that was perfect for what we were looking for. The seven mile trip probably took us two and a half hours. Most of the folks I was with had had enough of the river by then, but I was ready to go for another hour or two, if they’d let me. The equipment we rented was adequate, and LCL is a fine alternative to Mohican Adventures.

Having a summer birthday, I wanted to do something different than a typical bar meet-up… so ca-brewing was thrown around and then we landed on tubing, specifically tu-brewing. We wanted to do the least amount of work(hence tubing, not canoeing) and have the freedom to drink on the river. With several failed attempts to contact Mohican Adventures along with their requirements to camp two nights and show up early Saturday because they don’t take tubing reservations, I landed on Loundonville Canoe Livery. Loudonville Canoe Livery’s staff was super easy to work with. I paid a deposit and that’s all they needed. They said if more people ended up coming, I would just pay more that day, they didn’t need a firm number. When I showed up my receipt was waiting on the desk and we paid the remaining. I was then directed to the campsite. Campsite: There are numbered spots, but no one follows the numbers. Arriving on Saturday, we were lucky to find a clearing for two tents. The fire pits are movable, so we had to move one from a group that was hording three. This also proved to be a problem later that night. The campsites are nice along the river, but they are NOT family friendly. There’s a bar on site and everyone who spent the night was rowdy and loud. If that’s your MO, you’ll love it. My group tried to call it a night at midnight, but was kept awake from 2−4am with fights when the bar closed. Our neighbors were the kind of people that would ransack your campsite, so we tried to play nice. I knew we did not take the family-friendly option, but I thought there might be a possibility for sleep. It was awful. So awful I would have called the police if my phone hadn’t died. My suggestions: Make it a day trip(an hour and a half from Columbus): Do NOT spend the night. Spend $ 10 on an inflatable cooler, it’s worth it and so convenient down the river. Also, grab a boat line so you can tie all the tubes together. Do NOT take anything of value on the river. Our group lost a phone and prescription sunglasses. Start early in the day. They said it would take about 3 hours to go 7 miles. We started at 2:30pm but didn’t reach the end until 6:30pm. By that time we ran out of beer and it was starting to get cold. Start earlier in the day and plan for 4 hours. It’s an enjoyable summer activity… if you’re looking for laid-back and anything goes, this is the site for you. If you are looking to camp, this is NOT the site for you. DONOTSPENDTHENIGHT! Enjoy the $ 10 tubing and go home.
