Love this place. Local ingredients, great menu. This is a good spot for date night, birthdays, anniversaries or anytime you want a nice night out. It’s nice to have a high quality restaurant close to home.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Fine dining in Lotus, California — well worth the drive(I live in Folsom) although I like to go after kayaking. But be sure to make a reservation. I love the fixed price menu which gives you appetizer, soup or salad, entrée and dessert. I highly recommend the saganaki which is a must for me when I go there. Another favorite is the chocolate shrimp when they have it… yep sounds weird but tastes delicious. Unfortunately not available as part of fixed price menu. Service has always been good and the atmosphere is very nice.

We’ve lived in Cool for a few years now and have wanted to try this restaurant and finally got a chance to do so. In the past they were either not open or unable to seat us. I had made the reservation for 5:45, we arrived just after 5:30, the restaurant was virtually empty but we had to wait to be seated because they were expecting a large party to arrive. This is a small restaurant with no doubt a small staff both servers and cooks, so I understand that they have limitations, but that is no reason to make us wait at the entrance. You explain to the guest that you will not be able to immediately take their dinner order, but in the interim you make money selling highly profitable drinks and your guests are seated and happy. Some people just have no business sense. The Food: As a starter we split the Saganaki. It was good but could have been hotter IMO. I had the the Greek lemon chicken soup. It was very good. For my main course I had the Schnitzel with spaetzle. I was a bit surprised when the schnitzel arrived without lemon wedges since it is customary to squeeze lemon over it. I had forgotten that the spaetzle included a caper sauce so it was pretty darn lemony on its own. All in all though it was very good. My daughter had the a Paella which was one of their specials that evening. It was very tasty but it was somewhat more reminiscent of a jambalaya. My wife had the Chocolate prawns and they were also quite good. For dessert we split a flourless chocolate cake and it was quite excellent. All in the service, food and atmosphere here were quite decent but I think don’t quite rise to the level of standout for the price. If you live in the area(or are staying at the Inn) I definitely recommend giving it a try. We will go back at some point but I wasn’t knocked off my feet enough to make it a regular destination.

Atmosphere is nice, food is always well-presented and delicious. We enjoy taking friends to experience this place for the first time. We may be hesitant to do so in the future since our last two experiences were S-L-O-W. Can’t blame it on the kitchen staff since it took the waitress forever to ask us which wine we preferred. When I sit down, I like to be offered a wine list, soon be asked about it, and very soon be presented with a bottle. Not the case here. Again, great food and worth the drive if they can solve the timing issues.

My friends and I had a wonderful dinner in a quaint historic building. The distance from Sacramento gave us a feeling of a destination dinner. All of us were happy with the experience. I’ll post more specifics next time, which will be soon.

Amazing food, Prawn Appetizer and the Steak are excellent. We’ve been eating here for years and are never disappointed.

I’ve never been disappointed! Every single meal I’ve ever had at this place is the best of it’s kind, and I’ve tried at least 70% of their ever changing menu. Crab cakes and ciopinno are among my favorites but they only have them about once a year! Steak and fish meals are always perfection and with the fixed price menu you can get a little taste of everything! Be prepared to spend about $ 50 per person if you include a glass of wine or beer with dinner at the minimum but it’s always worth it!

I ordered the Avocado Salad but wanted the balsamic vinaigrette as I had previously tried it with the miso dressing and did not like that dressing at all. The chef refused to make the salad with a different dressing. Having tried the other vegetarian items on the menu on previous visits and not finding them to my liking and, not wanting to ruin a friend’s birthday dinner, I ate bread while the other members of my party ate their dinner. The waitress was very nice and obviously embarrassed by having to tell a customer that they couldn’t substitute salad dressings. If you want menu items exactly as they are listed, you will enjoy this place, but don’t expect any customization of your order aside from how you want your meat cooked.

Another fabulous meal at Café Mahjaic! The staff are so awesome, the courses all so beautifully presented and the food just so delicious. I just love the flavours that they are able to evoke from the ingredients in each serving. Completely satisfied and will be back soon. Thanks!!!

This is our go-to place for special occasions! Recently, we enjoyed the four course meal for $ 32 per person. I had the soup of the day & my husband had the ceasar salad & both were delicous. We also enjoyed our appetizers & desserts. For our main course, I had the pork schnitzel & my husband had the salmon. Both were amazing! The four course meal us a good value & a great option for a special occasion meal. I love that we leave there feeling full but not stuffed. Portions are big enough to be satisfied but not too big. It’s always a pleasant dining experience here!

The food here was very delicious! Our server was very attentive and helpful as well. My husband and I chose to do the 4 course dinner with many options per course. Highly recommended restaurant!

Small quaint dining after 5 pm. There is only one waitress/hostess/buser. Food is not average, and is expensive. The bathroom is located outside in the back, same as back in the day with the outhouse.

Last night we returned for our second visit. Everything we remembered about the place was true once again. The prawn appetizer, the avo-something Greek soup, the Chicken Coq au Vin, and the decadent chocolate dessert were wonderful. This place is a gem.

Lovely evening. Meal was wonderful, service was warm, and atmosphere relaxed. Only preference would be a lighter hand with the garlic, too overpowering(esp w/eggplant spread & Cesar salad). Very much enjoyed our evening at Café Mahjaic.

I absolutely LOVE this quaint little gem! Food, service, ambiance all so authentic and Devine! I’ve been three times and consider it a favorite place to not only dine but to have an experience! I brought my foodie friends from Louisiana here because I knew this place would make a lasting impression! It’s a great restaurant for date night!

I’ve been able to eat there once. it was very good. but I have tried to go 3 times now and they couldn’t seat us. last night was my final try. there was only 1 car in the lot and 2 people dining. we were told that they were expecting reservation so they couldn’t seat us. for heaven sakes if you can’t serve people take your sign board down. it’s very frustrating as a client. I will never stop in again.

I had read so many lovely reviews of this place, and what a complete disappointment is was — from the service to the food. This past Sunday, my fiancé and I both ordered the pre fixe menu, his with steak and mine with coq au vin. Neither of us were impressed with the starters — his meat was over cooked and my entire meal was blackened and unrecognizable. Unfortunately, I was very hungry and did eat a portion of the meal. The next morning I woke at 6am to the most violent and painful food poisoning I’ve ever had. We had to cut our trip short and race home — I was extremely ill for a solid two days. I noticed a lot of people enjoy a chicken dish this place prepares. If I were you, I would think twice before ordering at all.

What a wonderfully delicious discovery this was. We took advantage of the price fix menu and were not disappointed. 4 courses for $ 25 was a perfect way to sample this place on our first visit. I started with the brochette which was fresh and very tasty, my wife had the prawn appetizer, which she enjoyed. Second course was asparagus soup, which I enjoyed but the Mrs. felt it was a bit too peppery. For the main entrée I had the steak and my wife had the halibut. Both were cooked perfectly. For dessert we had the flour less chocolate cake and the espresso Crème brûlée. Each was a perfect compliment to an excellent meal. Service was good(not great). A little more attention to details would have earned the fifth star. But overall it’s worth the drive out to Lotus. I’m sure we’ll be back.
