I am from New York City and we think we know what Chinese food is supposed to taste like(LOL). But I have also done business in China and Hong Kong and eaten boatloads of all different kinds of Chinese food for decades, and I have to say, this little teeny place is pretty darned good, at least for SLO county! This place and Mei’s in Shell Beach are the two best spots for Chinese in the area — no question. Here, the new family is doing a lovely job — the ingredients are fresh, not too much sugar in the sauces which are actually different from one another, very fast service and lots of caring about each customer. They will give us special orders, let us make requests — they just want us to be happy with their tasty, well made food. What more could you ask for? I especially like the black mushrooms with bok choy(we add chicken) and the Sichuan eggplant is excellent. Give them a shot!

My last review for this place was bad and I’ve since discovered the reason is a change in ownership. We loved the previous owners. New folks are ok but not as nice and the quality of the food just isn’t what it used to be. We ordered recently and it was a little better than last time so that’s some improvement at least.

Good food if you know what to order. Our favorites are their fried shrimp, chow mien(with pan fried noodles), and most especially their garlic eggplant. Even if you don’t like eggplant, you’ve never tasted anything better that this dish! Ambiance is bare bones, and sometimes the temperature is a little cold. We go about twice a month.

Small town place where you shouldn’t expect much. Crunchy rice, dry pot stickers, oily noodles. And I hear the other Chinese place is bad…

I’ve come to believe that the Hong Kong in Los Osos is currently the best, most authentic Chinese food SLO county has to offer. I had eaten many times at the old Hong Kong over the past fifteen years and it had always been so, so. A few years back, I wrote them off completely because the place had gotten so dirty and gross. I enjoy authentic Chinese food when I can find it. I used to eat in Boston’s China Town almost every night when I worked at South Station. I often eat at the Mayflower in Los Angeles when I’m down there. China Town restaurants have a lot of variety with fresh, healthy choices. One of my favorite dishes has always been fish filet(Sole) with bok choy or mixed seafood and vegetables. Unfortunately, most small town Chinese places serve Chinese junk food. So, I was shocked when I walked in to the new Hong Kong and saw my favorite dish on the menu. I’ve become a regular ever since Admittedly, I tend to keep getting that dish but have had others and they’ve all been very good. Tonight, the people next to me kept commenting on the deliciousness of their meal and my girlfriend enjoyed the dish I brought home for her. Actually, I was done eating and about to leave but she texted and found out I ate without her and almost lost it. As a rule I need to keep her well fed, otherwise it’s like I’ve got a hungry, pissed off Grizzly Bear invading my camp. The current owners of the Hong Kong are an extremely nice husband and wife that bought the business a couple of years ago and moved here from San Diego. The dishes on their menu are the closest that I’ve found to a China Town experience here on the Central Coast. If they could move into SLO I imagine they would do extremely well. Unfortunately, they are in that run down old building next to a failed Mexican place and most people just drive on by headed for Subway. If you ever find yourself in the area, give them a shot. Order the teriyaki appetizer and the fish filet with book choy and ask for some hot oil to put on it. And tell them«Jason sent you!» Of course, they’ll have absolutely no idea who you are talking about but their looks of bewilderment will be priceless.

We come here often, especially on the many foggy days in Los Osos, in search of their delicious won ton soup. You won’t find a friendlier server than Fiona(Chi Yen) who takes a personal interest in helping my elderly mother. She and her husband have done a great job of keeping this popular restaurant open after taking it over from their retired uncle. The food isn’t greasy and the vegetables are fresh. The prices are reasonable and you can also save by ordering their early bird dinners from 3 – 5 pm. We are only disappointed that they’re closed on Mondays.

Just retried this place after not going here for over a decade. I am so glad we gave this place a try, I had no idea they had changed ownership. I am a former San Francisco resident that lived in the heart of China Town and this restaurant is this place is fantastic! It is authentic and the staff is so nice and professional. I think this location may have gotten a bad reputation when is was the last owners. If you are skeptical, please give this place another try! Yummy!

My family eats a lot of Chinese food everywhere we travel. I give this place a 3 stars for the good and fast service but unfortunately their food was nothing special. It’s the usual chinese food take-out with sauces that are not too special. BUT, food was warm, tea was good and please is old but clean… Need more light posts at the parking at night…

I would like a time machine to take me back to the thought that getting Chinese food in Los Osos would be a good idea. I called to order for delivery and it took 3 tries for the woman on the phone to tell me that their delivery guy was on vacation. Only one delivery person and no back up? Your restaurant advertises free delivery so I guess it is pick up only today. It takes forever to pick up the food with six people in front of us. We get everything home and my one positive was that it was hot. Everything after that was bad. We got egg flower soup which was flavorless with a watery broth. We also ordered shrimp with vegetables that came in clear white sauce that was consistency of I won’t say. There was a lot of shrimp but it was low quality shrimp. Once again the dish was flavorless and needed Sriracha and soy sauce to make palatable. I was surprised that food so flavorless could give me such an upset stomach. I won’t be trying this place a second time.

Ok I’ve eaten at all the Chinese Restaurants in the area and although modest in atmosphere and appearance it has the best Chinese food I’ve had in Los Osos, Morro Bay and yes folks in SLO too. I’ve eaten there a dozen times and it consistent and done right. I’m ordering takeout tonight!

Great family run restaurant. The fried tofu is amazing. I now get the mushroom bok choy and absolutely love it. The family that runs this place is so sweet and awesome at what they do!

This used to be my favorite place for Chinese food. But a few weeks ago we ordered the lo mien and the noodles were semi burnt. I had the honey chicken and it was awful. No flavor. It was almost like they had watered down their sweet and sour sauce. The egg rolls were tasteless. I won’t be eating here again.

Living in Stockton with China Palace may have ruined me for most Chinese places. For the money, it wasn’t any better than Panda. I try to give the benefit of the doubt for local establishments, but your food needs to taste better than commercial food distributed chow.

Don’t order food here. We waited an hour for our order and called to see where it was. We were told it was out for delivery. We live 1 block away and were told that the delivery driver wasn’t sure when he would be there. 15 minutes later we called back and the girl let slip that the food was almost done .! Not even started and an hour later. I drove by and no one was there so they weren’t busy. We called to cancel our order and the girl hung up on us. If you want friendly service and good food don’t go here cause you won’t get what You came for.

This is my favorite Chinese food in all of San Luis Obispo county. The new owners are a family who are friendly, honest people that are always doing their best and working really hard, and still manage to make me feel like the most important person whenever I visit; they even gave me free fried wontons on my birthday. I’ve eaten Chinese food all over the world — and this ranks right up there among the best.

I recently came to eat my usual Mongolian Beef, Egg Flower soup, potstickers was originally six pieces but now there is ten pieces for only $ 6.95 and combination seafood ETC… I noticed the mongolian beef taste different so I asked if there was a new chef and they said yes. The Combination Seafood also taste so yummy and not to pricy at all and I love it. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the service was great. I will definitely come back soon!!!

Best Chinese Food in Los Osos — just don’t come here expecting authentic Chinese cuisine. I love the pan-fried noodles with vegetables, and all of their tofu dishes. The atmosphere is slightly dirty/grimy. Food portions are huge and dirt cheap. If I were to compare this place to the best Chinese restaurants in L.A., I’d give this place 2 stars. But compared to other Chinese areas in this area, this is the best there is.
