If you have OCD, then Dr. Sawyer is the dentist for you! For 50 years dentists have told me that my mouth is in great shape. I had a lot of cavities in my teens, and knocked a front tooth out at age 14. That tooth had to be replaced because of a root canal in my early 30s, but as an adult I’ve always been conscientious about taking care of my teeth. I decided to try this office because my dentist retired. At my first appointment Dr. Sawyer showed me a video about gum disease. He told me that I needed root planing, even though I showed him records indicating that the pockets of my teeth have been EXACTLY the same for the last 10 years. An office assistant — I think she is his bookkeeper/accountant– rudely told me that I had gum disease, even though Dr. Sawyer told me that I was only«at risk» for gum disease. She recommended a course of action that would cost $ 2500, after insurance. Even though my instincts told me to run, I went through with it. I should have asked for a referral to a periodontist office, but I made an appointment for his hygienist to do it, even though I think it was a conflict of interest. I also paid $ 300 to have a slide of my mouth sent to a lab for bacterial evaluation. Dr. Sawyer said that I have spirochete bacteria in my mouth and that I’m at risk for heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, OHMY! Google Oral Spirochetes and you will see that it is very common. All the while Dr. Sawyer tells stories about his patients who never came back, had failed procedures, etc. He told me that when he was a student even when he came back from partying and he fell flat on his face in bed he never forgot to get up and floss — TMI! He also said that he and his wife have fluorescent white teeth because they use hydrogenating trays to keep spirochetes under control. He said that unless both partners use the trays to force spirochetes into spore mode then it’s no use! You are doomed to infestation. My husband doesn’t believe all this and he will not agree to wearing a tray in his mouth four times a day. I told Dr. Sawyer that on the last visit, and he shrugged and told me that unless my husband has treatment I will always have spirochetes in my mouth. I heard him snickering to the office staff as I walked away in a huff. So if this talk of spirochetes scares you and drives you crazy because you have OCD, then as I said, Dr. Sawyer is the dentist for you! Me? I’m finding a new dentist. Oh, and as if that wasn’t enough, the office is trying to charge me $ 75 for a test that Dr. Sawyer never did. I distinctly remembered that he didn’t have time to do it because it was the end of the day. He said«we’ll do it next time». Well he wrote on my chart«DONE» and the office staff would not believe me that he DIDN“T do it. So on top of everything else, the staff is rude and would not even consider that the doctor might have made a mistake.
